Forecasters watching for potential tropical development

After a fairly quiet month across the tropics, AccuWeather meteorologists say an uptick in tropical development is on the horizon.

00:00 I'm Ariella Scalise and as we continue

00:02 throughout the end of the month of July,

00:04 we are still tracking the tropics.

00:05 I want to start off with what we've had so

00:08 far at least into the Atlantic Basin will

00:10 go in alphabetical order with Arlene and

00:12 then we also had Cindy and Brett as these

00:15 storms moved out of the Atlantic and

00:17 Brad eventually pushing into the Caribbean.

00:19 Cindy stay out to the Atlantic so

00:20 three storms so far into the Atlantic

00:22 Basin and then we are also still

00:24 watching tropical storm Don looking

00:26 at winds of 50 mph moving West

00:28 Northwest at 10 mph so picked up

00:30 a little bit of speed here,

00:32 but overall this is not going

00:33 to be a threat to any land.

00:35 We take Don's eyepath here

00:37 throughout the weekend.

00:38 We're likely still maintaining

00:39 strength as a tropical storm and

00:41 then heading a bit farther north here,

00:42 losing a bit of that wind intensity

00:44 by early into the week.

00:46 Then we also look a bit farther South here,

00:48 so there's Don's position.

00:50 There is an area that we have outlined

00:52 here for a medium potential of tropical

00:54 development as we look ahead to July 23rd.

00:57 Through July 25th,

00:58 so watching this area here as this

01:00 tropical wave makes its way towards

01:02 the Caribbean here and may just be

01:04 able to get its act together here

01:06 for that medium chance of tropical

01:08 development. If this storm does gain

01:10 strength enough to get a name,

01:12 the next name on the list is Emily.

01:14 We take a look farther out here as we

01:16 head throughout the rest of our week here.

01:19 We've had a lot of that Sahara dust.

01:21 We still had a lot of wind shear,

01:23 so overall not a whole lot of

01:25 activity going on into the Atlantic,

01:27 but we do have an uptick here as we head

01:29 into August and then into the peak of

01:32 hurricane season into early September.

01:33 We take you out into the Pacific where

01:36 we are watching tropical depression.

01:38 4E winds of 35 mph moving West

01:40 Northwest at 13 mph.

01:41 The next name on the list for the

01:43 East Pacific storms is Dora,

01:45 so this is something that we will

01:47 continue to keep an eye on here as we

01:50 head into the rest of hurricane season.
