Tropical activity remains quiet in the Atlantic for now

As we head into the peak of hurricane season, the Atlantic has remained quiet recently. AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno urges caution as he monitors certain regions where development could happen.

00:00i want to give you an updated forecast here from the accuweather hurricane center here i want to

00:08show you the updated forecast here for the number of storms 13 to 16 so far this year we've had six

00:15named storms right now the previous uh and the forecast for six to nine hurricanes three to five

00:22major hurricanes we've already had one and then the direct impacts three to six so i know it's

00:26been quiet but we still have a lot to go with here you could see the numbers less than last year

00:33but above the historical average this year so we still think it's going to be an active hurricane

00:38season now listen we still have a large way to go with this hurricane season but we've had again

00:46six named storms five tropical storms one hurricane that hurricane being erin and that was our first

00:52major i do believe in the next 10 days we're going to add two more names to this list i don't

00:59believe the storms will be impacting the united states but i do think we'll have gabrielle by early

01:04next week and then late next week probably umberto right now now remember we still have a lot left in

01:11the hurricane season i mean we are right around here now although you see historically the chances

01:18decrease there's still a lot of storms that you can get the rest of uh september and as we learned

01:24last year october still a lot of dry air and this is what's been choking things as far as development

01:31and some wind shear but i do believe that the wind share is starting to get a little less you start

01:36seeing more pockets of light yellow here so again not much here the next day or two while we are going

01:42to watch off the east coast of the united states i think it's the wave coming off africa as we head

01:49into later friday and saturday i think that's going to be our next storm next week should stay away from

01:55the us though
