00:00Hi everyone, this is the BYD Shark, and that is the infamous Car Expert Hill.
00:05When we reviewed this car at the end of last year, you might remember that it didn't make it up the hill,
00:10despite this being kind of off-road ready and a dual cab ute.
00:14Most of the other dual cab utes that we test here make it up the hill without too many dramas.
00:18This unfortunately doesn't have any reduction gears or diff locks, and it really struggled,
00:23and we deduced that it was either a torque limiting issue or something to do with the software.
00:27Well, after we published our video, to BYD's credit, they actually came back here to the proving ground
00:32and tested another version of the Shark with what we believe was revised software,
00:37and it was able to make it up the hill.
00:39Unfortunately, though, that video was kind of misrepresented.
00:43It was sent to the BYD owners group, and while they were elated that it made it up there,
00:47the hill that they tested on wasn't the hill that we tested on.
00:50Now that we have a production version of the car back, we've tried the hill again,
00:54and unfortunately, it didn't get up there.
00:55We have the exact same issues that we had the first time.
00:58The hill is ungraded again, and it just wasn't able to make it up there.
01:01Last night, we actually had a software update that came through on the car
01:05that mentioned improved off-road performance,
01:07so we tested it once again this morning, and it didn't make it up again.
01:11We tested every single mode in every single variation.
01:14Just wanted to point out that even though BYD represented that it could actually get up this hill,
01:19the hill, in fact, wasn't the same hill that we tested on,
01:21and it wasn't really an apples-for-apples comparison.
01:24So, anyway, keep an eye out for the video on our YouTube channel.
01:27Just thought I'd give you a quick update.
