00:00We're seeing some physical and hard-running running backs run tonight.
00:03Yep.
00:03This afternoon.
00:04Week three is always the showcase for the running back.
00:07Yep.
00:09It used to be week four, and that's when these teams always used to meet.
00:12It was like a rite of passage.
00:15It's the end around.
00:17And Coleman-Owen showing a bit of versatility here on the carry.
00:22Down to about the 20-yard line.
00:24How about this name?
00:26The days of the final, Curtis Painter.
00:28Yeah.
00:30Chad Kelly.
00:31I mean, we had some times, man.
00:33Yep.
00:36And today, that's Jason Bean and Peyton Thorne.
00:41Yep.
00:44Jim Sorge, how deep do you want to go here?
00:47That's right.
00:47Yeah.
00:48Wow.
00:49That's awesome.
00:5219 first downs for Indy in this game.
00:55And Bean throws.
00:57And that is snagged by Landon Parker, undrafted out of Troy, a former All-American FCS tight
01:05end at Wofford, turned wide receiver.
01:07He's also a punter at Wofford, believe it or not.
01:10Bean doing a nice job.
01:12Play fake to the left.
01:12Rolling out to the right.
01:14Throwing that ball right on the money.
01:16You had Eric Gregory chasing for the Bengals, number 94.
01:19All right.
01:20That's what we need in the booth.
01:25Next preseason, if it's hot, one of those misters.
01:28Keep me cool.
01:30Anthony's request, but I'll be fine if it happens.
01:34Contact initially from Muma Jong-Mehta.
01:39Spinning inside the 10.
01:41And the sticks get put down.
01:43This will be a first down and goal.
01:45You know, Mike, I think I'm starting to look at Muma Jong-Mehta as the name that, you know,
01:51every time I get a name and I just kind of love it.
01:54I love his name.
01:54Especially he's been having a heck of a game.
01:56Number 45.
02:01And as hard as he works, he's an elite academic as well.
02:05I think we'll be showing that to you shortly as well.
02:08But you know the impressive thing.
02:10Dude talked about changing the culture.
02:12And he talked about the linebackers.
02:13How many of those draft picks are like two, three-time academic All-Americans, post-graduates
02:19golfing?
02:20That's amazing.
02:21You talk about this young man.
02:22They're getting those guys that not only get it done on the field, but in the classroom.
02:26First and foremost.
02:28Hageem did a really good job chasing that down.
02:31You know, how many draft classes where it's two-time, three-time captain?
02:36All-academic in this conference.
02:38Academic All-American.
02:41You're right.
02:4212 plays on this drive.
02:44And Bean throws for the end zone.
02:46And Landon Parker was a bit helter-skelter with it.
02:50Popped it in the air, but couldn't ultimately pull it down.
02:56Oh, he's wide open right there.
02:59Just overtone.
03:00Bean knew he overthrew it.
03:02Let's just take a look at that.
03:03Barrett Carter, three-time All-ACC honor roll, three-time All-ACC academic team.
03:08How about Taj Brooks?
03:09Four-time academic All-Big 12.
03:12That's impressive.
03:15Those are guys you want to build the club around.
03:17Yep.
03:19This is third down and goal from the seven for Jason Bean and the Colts.
03:25Bean looking left.
03:27Throws over the middle.
03:28That is caught.
03:29It's a touchdown for Coleman Owen.
03:31And the Ohio Bobcat has found pay dirt at Paycor.
03:40And Jason Bean has been excellent for the Colts.
03:44Well, especially with Braylon Lux, you know, hands up, full speed coming in.
03:48He kind of just sidearms it a little bit.
03:51He knows he's going to get hit.
03:53Lux doing an excellent job blitzing on that one.
03:56Just a tad too late to give Bean a lot of credit.
03:59Colts were backed all the way up to their own seven.
04:04And they take it the distance.
04:06We'll step aside.
04:072-0-9 to play in the third.
04:08The game presented by Paramount+.
04:10I was born in Camelain, West Africa.
04:20To Linda and Leo Jong-Metta.
04:22Two of the kindest and bravest sores I've ever known.
04:26My parents had a thirst for knowledge that I led them across the world and back.
04:32It led my dad first to Nigeria at the age of 19 for his undergrad and then his master's.
04:39It led him to the University of Liverpool in Europe where he got his PhD.
04:42In the darkest days of his life, it is his faith, his hope, and ultimately his belief in the opportunities education will bestow upon him and his family that kept him going.
04:56My mom, the oldest of seven, crossed the Gulf of Vinny in the Atlantic Ocean on the video.
05:05You hear from Mooma Jong-Metta, the Wisconsin grad, not only the undergrad, he went back and earned his MBA, delivered the speech at commencement this year for the Wisconsin MBA program.
05:17Over 1,000 in attendance, his mom, Linda, a Fulbright scholar.
05:21They came overseas from Cameroon to Texas A&M.
05:26His dad works at AbbVie.
05:27His mom works at Kraft Heinz.
05:29And he hid the speech.
05:32There was a story written by Jeff Hobson about what it meant for Mooma to go back to Wisconsin
05:37and speak to all these young people about to endeavor into their professional lives.
05:43And he said, I didn't want my parents to know what I was going to say about them, so I had to hide the Hobson story, too.
05:52And you want to talk about a guy who just came in and forced his way onto the roster last year.
05:58Ball gets underneath Thorne here.
06:01And sometimes better to just put it in the ground than put it back on the ground.
06:05And Mooma, a guy who ended up playing a ton of special teams last year, wherever he ends up on the cut line,
06:13because there are a couple rookies that got drafted.
06:16Talking with him in training camp for a spell, you're just mesmerized.
06:21He's clearly got so much between the years.
06:24And so, you know, hopefully he's in Cincinnati a long time.
06:27But whatever he does, you just know he's going to be successful.
06:30I agree with you.
06:30Those are the kind of guys you need not only on the football field but in the locker room.
06:34And, you know, if it doesn't work out, I can't see it not working out for him in this league
06:39because he is very talented, as you mentioned, not only physically but mentally.
06:44And we need more individuals like that as part of the NFL.
06:48That is a three and out in the first drive for Peyton Thorne at the helm.
06:53And Jong Mehta out on special teams where Coleman Owen is back to return after catching the touchdown on the previous drive.
07:06That is Rico back to punt.
07:09And we'll see what level of orbit he puts this in.
07:14Everyone learned a lesson that time.
07:15Talk about the linebacking room.
07:24And there's one guy, the governor, they call him, in Wyoming, who's going to be sticking around for a while
07:29and will play a major role this year.
07:31Let's go down to Marissa with Logan Wilson.
07:34Thanks, Mike.
07:35Well, Logan, you're reunited with Al Gold and, of course, your linebackers coach your first two seasons.
07:40Now he's back as defensive coordinator.
07:42What have you seen out of his approach and just the way he's going to be leading this defense?
07:47Yeah, he's trying to eliminate any gray area, make sure we're all on the same page,
07:50we're all teaching the same things in every single room, defensive backs, D-line, linebacker room,
07:55making sure that there is no gray area so that we're all on the same page
07:59and you can kind of eliminate some plays throughout the season as long as we're all on the same page.
08:04Now Al has talked about the core four fundamentals
08:07and just how important those are going to be this upcoming season.
08:10Can you tell us a little bit about just some of those, that fundamentals
08:12and those mentality that he wants you to play with?
08:15Yeah, I mean, we're practicing it really before practice
08:17and like these little pre-practice routine that we got going on
08:20and we're trying to find a way to get turnovers and just try to grab an extra five minutes,
08:24nothing too intense, but just try to work that mindset so that when we get to games,
08:30like it's not even something we're necessarily thinking about, it's just a reactionary thing.
08:33And so the more that we do that, the more we're going to force more turnovers
08:36and the better off we're going to be as a team.
08:38And then real quick, Logan, just wanted to ask you your impressions
08:41of Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter so far.
08:43Both two great young rookie linebackers that I'm excited that we added to this room.
08:47They're going to help us a lot and I'm looking forward to watching them grow.
08:50Appreciate the time, Logan. Thank you.
08:53Thank you, Marissa.
08:54There are two active players from the state of Wyoming in the NFL
08:58and the other is Taven Bryan who's been playing defensive line for the Bengals in this preseason.
09:04Those two actually were in high school together.
09:08Casper, right?
09:09Yeah, that's it.
09:13Bean throws and hits Jelani Woods for first down yardage.
09:18It was third down, the coverage from Loyal to safety.
09:22Jelani Woods is a mountain of a human.
09:26Six foot seven.
09:28Big target.
09:29Long strides to the sideline because the third quarter is over.
09:32Back for the fourth next.
09:42Leapin' Lamar, electrifying, recognized for his charismatic personality,
09:47flashy attire in the 70s.
09:49The franchise's highest scoring defensive player.
09:52Touchdown returns recorded on four picks, four punts, three fumbles, and one kickoff.
09:5925 interceptions as a Bengal is the fifth most in team history.
10:04Went on to record 22 more with Washington and Buffalo.
10:07Six Pro Bowl selections.
10:09Second most ever by a Bengal defender.
10:12Lamar Parrish joins the Ring of Honor October 26th when the Bengals host the Jets.
10:18Not only an amazing cornerback, defensive back, but he added that return specialist to it.
10:25You know, and had a chance to sit down, and we met with Mike Brown and the family.
10:29And, you know, Kenny Riley had just gone in the Hall of Fame, and Mike was like,
10:33but you know the guy that really deserves, we have several guys that deserve, we said,
10:37Lamar Parrish.
10:38Because not only, like I just said, the player he was as a defensive back,
10:42but his return ability was just amazing.
10:44And you mentioned some of the stats, so congratulations, Leap and Lamar Parrish.
10:50That's a lot of interceptions between the Rattler and Leap and Lamar, huh?
10:53Exactly.
10:54Yep.
10:56Bean getting chased and lost that into no man's land.
11:02Raymond Johnson hurried the quarterback.
11:05And, yeah, Kenny Riley earning his rightful place in the Hall of Fame,
11:12although it came far, far too late.
11:15And here's Bean on the move.
11:20Yeah, he wanted to load that when Raymond Johnson was right breathing down his throat.
11:24That was Loyal who went diving for it.
11:32But you've got some of the great ball hawk corners in NFL history in the Bengals' ring of honor now.
11:41Here's Bean, third down and six.
11:45He went down, but he wasn't touched.
11:47And Coleman Owen able to dig out another couple yards and a first down in the process.
11:53So Jalen Key unable to get him on the ground.
11:57And he hopped back up, and Owen happy to take the extra yards.
12:02Hey, Mike, let's stay on that defensive back topic.
12:04I mean, there's guys, and I don't know their exact stats.
12:06I mean, we know Kenny Riley and Lamar.
12:08But I played with a pretty good one, number 34, Louis Breeden.
12:12Louis Breeden could cover.
12:13He had, of course, that record interception for a touchdown out in San Diego against Dan Fouts.
12:18But, yeah, he had a chance to play with some pretty good cornerbacks.
12:21And we're watching a pretty good linebacker.
12:25And, oh, my goodness.
12:27Great story on him.
12:29But right there, man, he shot through and made an amazing tackle.
12:34Man, Mooma can hit.
12:35Oh, yeah.
12:38How about we go down to Marissa catching up with a player who can certainly hit, too.
12:42Amarius Benz.
12:44Thanks, Mike.
12:44And, you know, I've never felt smaller than when I'm standing next to either Orlando or
12:48Amarius.
12:49Amarius, when you look at last season, you know, you were thrust into that starting line up
12:52there week three.
12:54But once you were in there, you never looked back.
12:56When you look back on that now, almost a year later, just what was that moment like
12:59for you?
12:59And how did you embrace that mentality of next man up?
13:02It was a great moment.
13:03You know, I hate the circumstances where they came in.
13:06You know, trend going down.
13:07But I knew I had to step into a big role.
13:10I knew I was expecting a lot of.
13:11I just had to go out and play football.
13:13So, like I said, I look back and I'm thankful for the moment because I got to start 13 games
13:16after that.
13:17But, like I said, honestly, it was just, like I said, you know, I hate how it happened.
13:22But, like I said, somebody had to step up.
13:23And, you know, I was just glad I had the opportunity to step in and, you know, play right tackle.
13:26So, with your rookie season now under your belt, just what's the biggest difference you've
13:31seen in yourself going from year one to year two?
13:33I'd definitely say just really, like, mentally.
13:35Like, the whole mental part.
13:36Like I said, I know, like, just practicing and playing games.
13:39I know how that can, like, change the game.
13:40But just, like, really, like, just, like, mentally growing up and just, like, actually,
13:43like, having a, like, a bigger understanding of the game outside of just, you know, like,
13:47just the plays and stuff like that.
13:49Just, like, just understanding, like, the game of football.
13:51So, I'd definitely say, like, I've matured way more, like, you know, off the field.
13:54And, like I said, even on the field.
13:55So, it's definitely going to help me.
13:57Now, I know you and Orlando Brown have gotten pretty close.
14:00And he is such a valuable part of this O-line group.
14:03What's been maybe the biggest piece of advice that he's provided to you?
14:06You know, honestly, like I said, just approach every day.
14:08You know, like it's your last.
14:09Honestly, like I said, because we're blessed to be able to play the game that we love.
14:12So, really, like I said, he just, he's like a big brother.
14:14You know, he gives me advice outside of football.
14:17And, you know, and then, like, you know, a lot of football advice, too.
14:20So, I'm just very thankful for him.
14:21And, you know, ever since April when I came in and got drafted, you know, he's been a big part of my career.
14:25And I feel like, you know, as long as we're together, you know, I'm going to continue to grow.
14:28And he says high praises for you, says he has high expectations for you this season.
14:32So, Marius, appreciate you taking the time with us.
14:34No problem.
14:35Appreciate y'all.
14:37Thank you, Marissa.
14:38It was said when he was drafted that his traits are, quote, immeasurable.
14:41I'll measure him, 6'8", 340.
14:44Yeah, it's funny.
14:45I was at camp the first two days.
14:47It opened up, and I was sitting there, and, you know, a couple of the former players were there.
14:51But I just happened to be talking to Orlando and to Mims, and I was there alone.
14:55And they walked away.
14:56They went back.
14:57You know, they took the time to come over and talk.
14:58Yeah.
14:59They go back into practice, and Dan Horde walks over.
15:02I said, Dan, when I grow up, I want to be just like this.
15:08Bean launching.
15:09Got it.
15:10And it is incomplete.
15:13Just about everyone in the secondary had a chance at it.
15:16It was Robinson who rose for it.
15:18It was Brooks who was on the direct coverage.
15:21Jalen Key was there, too.
15:23Lance Robinson had his hands.
15:25Brooks was there.
15:26We had three white shirts there.
15:28And each one of them says, man, we should have had it.
15:31We could have had it, but we didn't get it.
15:33Great coverage.
15:35And poor Landon Parker by his lonesome.
15:37And so, Dylan Fairchild joins Amarius Mims, former teammate at Georgia.
15:43What did you see out of Dylan Fairchild in this preseason?
15:46Obviously, didn't play today.
15:48Third-round pick.
15:50Well, the thing I've noticed when you watch most linemen come out of Georgia is they're well-coached.
15:55They're strong, they're physical, and they're smart.
15:59And that's what I saw right away.
16:00Of course, Fairchild's a rookie, just like Mims was a rookie last year.
16:04They'll progress.
16:05But very impressed with what he's been doing.
16:08And, of course, when we asked Duke about Tobin.
16:11And that was your man downfield on the offense.
16:14Number 66, five-yard penalty.
16:17Replayed second down.
16:19The same way that Mims sticks out when you look over there and you see him,
16:23if the guard puts it into your line, Fairchild sticks out.
16:26He just, you know, I think he's going to be, he should be a really, really good player.
16:30And you've got, you know, Scott Peters.
16:32It's a technical type of coach, and he'll take control of all those guys.
16:37And I can see them progressing to the next level.
16:40Yeah, very intrigued to see how this looks under Scott Peters.
16:43He says it's a hands league for linemen, too.
16:47And a lot of focus on technique with these guys.
16:51And then you've got to keep them healthy, of course, as well.
16:54Well, just to your point there, it's been a hands league for a long, long time.
16:57But you just never have had guys like a Scott Peters that teaches the hands the way they do.
17:03Yeah, so it's, you know, I can say my last four years in the NFL,
17:06I had a martial arts guy that I worked with.
17:08Because the D-line is working hands.
17:11And that's what it is.
17:12I mean, it's, you know, everything, as you can tell, it's all about the hands.
17:17People can't see it all, but he just lifted his mangled left hand in my face.
17:23I'm sorry.
17:23I had to do that.
17:25You set it up.
17:26You're like a big softball pitch.
17:27You know, hands, the game of hands.
17:29I said, yep.
17:29That's what happens when you use your hands a lot.
17:34Well, unfortunately, the hands for the Cincinnati defense.
17:37Time out in Indianapolis.
17:40This is their first time in.
17:42Time out of the hat.
17:43This is the 32nd time now.
17:45We're going to stay here.
17:46You know, I will say this about Al Golden.
17:48One thing that stood out to me in one of the conversations that Marissa had,
17:53taking the gray out.
17:54I think Logan Wilson said it.
17:56Zach Taylor told us a couple weeks ago, he lives to take the gray out of things.
18:01There's black and there's white.
18:02There's a clear responsibility.
18:05They've been vanilla in preseason.
18:06That's by design.
18:07But they've gotten their hands on the football three or four times.
18:11Lance Robinson almost took one back.
18:13So there have been some of these bright spots that I think if you just look at the larger body of work,
18:20don't entirely show some of the minutiae that's been positive for a guy who coached
18:25the best takeaway defense in college football last year.
18:29Well, when you have athletes now, have more athletes on the defense.
18:34Oh, he got it!
18:36Big man, a reception!
18:38I'm sorry, I stuck because I saw the ball tip.
18:42Howard Cross, I think, came down with it.
18:46Sure looked like it.
18:50The big fella was rumbling, stumbling.
18:53Wait a minute.
18:54They're pointing the other way here.
18:57We're going to pause here for a moment.
19:01And it looks like...
19:04Did Cross lose it there at the end?
19:08I was just so excited to see Howard Cross running with the ball.
19:11And the tough part here is, it was third down.
19:20It's a change of possession.
19:22And the Colts would go back and then...
19:26The ruling on the field, in an interception, fumble, and recovered.
19:31Much to explain here.
19:39So the ball batted into the air by Isaiah Thomas.
19:42It was caught by Cross and then fumbled by Cross.
19:48It was third down and long.
19:49This proves to be a 24-yard loss.
19:53And an Indianapolis Colts first down.
19:56Interception.
19:57Change of possession.
19:58Then the fumble.
20:00It's Indy's ball back at their own 26.
20:04Got to secure the ball.
20:06Get the ball.
20:09It just...
20:10It doesn't happen that much.
20:11No, it doesn't.
20:12It's a shame.
20:14I've seen images.
20:15I know you've caught...
20:17...passes.
20:20But, you know, I don't know...
20:23You had to do much running after you did so.
20:25You still got to secure it, man.
20:26Come on, give me some credit.
20:27I had a 1.1 average.
20:30This is a huge run for Indianapolis across midfield.
20:35And staggering into the sideline.
20:38That is Nate Noel.
20:40No, I did have one catch where I ran 12 yards and then Ronnie Lott chopped me down like a tree.
20:45So...
20:4639-yard gain there.
20:49A lot of excitement about the wide receiver room.
20:51You heard from T.
20:52How about we hear from Andre Yosevich down with Marissa?
20:54Thanks, Mike.
20:56Well, Andre, last season you took a massive step forward in just about every receiving category.
21:02I know as we've talked, you said you want to even increase your production even more going into this season.
21:06So tell us, what is your mindset and your approach as we head into 2025?
21:10Just being the best player I can be and contributing in ways, you know...
21:15I just want to be very detailed and do my job and the plays that will come will come.
21:19And I just want to be aggressive and, you know, make all the plays that come my way.
21:23Now, it's talked about so often the flashy, explosive plays that can happen on this offense.
21:28We have so many playmakers in that regard.
21:30But just how important is it for consistency and efficiency for this group to really reach those goals that you guys have set?
21:36Yeah, I think on the offensive side, like, the only person that we can beat is ourselves.
21:41And if we all do our job, like I said, and stay detailed, we have the playmakers to make the plays.
21:46Joe's going to throw the ball in the right spots.
21:48And so, you know, guys just need to do their job.
21:50And, well, we should be really good.
21:52Now, when you look at you, Charlie, and Chase, you guys all came in together.
21:55Now going into year three together.
21:57And it's pretty well known just how close the three of you are.
22:01How have you guys grown together?
22:02And what would you say makes your bond so tight?
22:05Yeah, we all learn how to be pros together, you know.
22:07It's a different lifestyle coming from college to the pros.
22:11And you kind of learn it all together.
22:12Obviously, you have older guys that give you guidance.
22:14But at the end of the day, you still got to learn yourself.
22:17So, you know, when you have a good squad and we all want to be great,
22:20it's easy to, you know, take the right steps to be a good pro.
22:25And, you know, especially working with them in the offseason and stuff, we only get closer and closer.
22:28Andre, looking forward to seeing you guys back out there week one.
22:31Thanks for the time.
22:31Yep, thank you.
22:33Thank you, Marissa.
22:34Nate, Noel, Gallops for a first down.
22:37I read Andre Yosevich hosted some wide receivers over the offseason.
22:41Jones, Pryor, Moore, even Chase Brown ended up going down to Atlanta.
22:47And they all got together.
22:48Talk about being a pro.
22:50That's one way you can bring everybody along with you.
22:52Rising tide, all boats and such.
22:53Well, because, you know, you're working all together regardless of where you come from for one goal.
22:58Yep.
22:59That's to be the best and win football games.
23:00And when you have guys taking the initiative to do that,
23:03that speaks volumes about how much they really want to win
23:06and how much they really want to be great.
23:10Bean giving again.
23:11Naquan right.
23:13Off the left side.
23:14Indianapolis approaching 500 total yards.
23:23Midway point of the fourth quarter.
23:26As the Bengals' eyes firmly set on a date 15 days from now in Cleveland,
23:33followed by the open and orange game here at Pacor Stadium against Jacksonville.
23:39And then we get to the meat and potatoes of the schedule.
23:42Beans.
23:47Bean.
23:48Wow.
23:49Sacked.
23:49Wow.
23:50How about a burst there?
23:51Isaiah Thomas.
23:53I tell you what, he turned the Jets on to catch.
23:56That was impressive.
23:58Great job by Isaiah Thomas.
24:00And an injured colt.
24:06And Thomas slinging down Bean.
24:09Update when we come back.
24:12And when you do, make sure you check out the Bengals' 2025 season shirts.
24:28Our creative team did an incredible job on this year's design.
24:32I personally love the backside of the shirt that features the season schedule
24:35and the opponents listed in their respective font and branding.
24:39And guys, I don't know about you, but if you're trying to decide what to wear week two
24:42against Jacksonville for open and orange, I think this shirt could solve your problem.
24:46That's a good shout.
24:48Marissa, we will see you there postgame.
24:50Can't wait.
24:52Indianapolis with the advantage here.
24:54You're over here pumping your polo and like, you know, Anthony's coming with a collar.
24:59You can be sure of that.
25:00I don't know.
25:00After seeing that shirt, I might have a change in plans here.
25:04That was a sharp-looking shirt there, Marissa.
25:07Yeah.
25:08So, Brian makes the tackle.
25:10Riley Leonard had to come in for one play.
25:12And it was third down, so the handoff.
25:16Leonard leaves.
25:18And a field goal attempt coming for the Colts now.
25:23That's going to be Schrader to take this from 44.
25:26He hit from 40 earlier in the game.
25:32And there's two kickers on the roster.
25:34These do carry a little more weight.
25:35That's the ticket.
25:40So, Indianapolis up 41-7 here.
25:43Bengals offense back out on the field.
25:44When we come back, we're presented by Paramount+.
25:47It's a whiteout here at Pacor Stadium.
25:56Bengals in there.
25:57White Bengal uniforms and that white helmet.
25:59The rare white Bengal will rule the jungle.
26:02October 16th on Thursday night football.
26:08White Bengal returns to Pacor Stadium.
26:11When the Bengals take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
26:14You can be sure under the lights.
26:16They're going to have plenty of drone shots.
26:18It's going to look excellent.
26:19And hopefully, it's a winning night for Cincinnati as well.
26:22I tell you what, Mike.
26:23I love that white.
26:24I love the white helmet.
26:25I love the white uniforms.
26:26I'm glad they're doing that, especially against the Steelers.
26:30Out to about the 30-yard line.
26:32So, sort of weird, because we had the interception by Cross
26:38and then the fumble, and that led to a first down.
26:40And ultimately, it was 20 consecutive plays
26:44run by the Indianapolis offense for a total of three points.
26:50And this will be the first offensive play run by the Bengals
26:53in the fourth quarter.
26:55Wow.
26:56That's crazy.
26:59Those defensive guys got their conditioning in, that's for sure.
27:02Yep, they sure did.
27:03Here's Thorne from under center, and he gives left.
27:06And that is Qualley Conley running for Cincinnati.
27:11Thousand-yard rusher, Utah Tech.
27:14Sometime at San Jose State in Arizona.
27:16Somebody's down.
27:18Not good.
27:19And it is an injured bangle back by the line of scrimmage.
27:30And that looks like Caleb Etienne, who's down.
27:35Boy, you hate to see that.
27:39Guy who was a left tackle at BYU.
27:43Admitted time at right tackle.
27:46A real challenge.
27:47He's actually benched at BYU as a right tackle.
27:50They moved him to guard, but he ends up going to left tackle as a senior.
27:53He's first team all Big 12.
27:55But in this instance, his past accolades are relevant.
28:02You really just hope he's okay.
28:04Yep, I agree.
28:07And so, Zach Taylor and the medical team all make their way out here.
28:13So, they'll have an elongated look here at Etienne.
28:21And we can go downstairs to Marissa, who is with Bengals safety Jordan Battle.
28:27Thanks, Mike.
28:28Well, Jordan, I know you didn't suit up today, but getting the opportunity to play in the first two preseason games,
28:32just how valuable were those reps for you guys?
28:35Yeah, very valuable.
28:36You know, getting a chance to go out there with the guys, you know, and be able to be on the field,
28:40you know, is always a blessing.
28:41You know, and take the field, you know, be able to go out and have fun, have the energy,
28:46you know, get riled up, get, you know, go into our pregame ritual and everything
28:50and be able to do that again for another season.
28:53It was fun.
28:54So, I'm happy we got the chance to strap up for the first two games.
28:57Heading into this season now, as I know you want to continue to elevate your game,
29:00take that next step, just what expectations or maybe goals are you setting for yourself?
29:04Yeah, just be a great leader, you know.
29:06Be a guy out there that the guys can trust.
29:08Be a helping hand, you know.
29:10So, whenever they need some motivation or whenever they need help on a player or anything,
29:14you know, I'm there for them.
29:15You know, I want them to know that.
29:16So, that's just one of the expectations I have for myself.
29:19Now, all camp and preseason long, we've heard how the team wants to start fast.
29:23It's easy to identify what that looks like on the offensive side,
29:26but what does starting fast mean for the defense?
29:28Yeah, it means going out there, you know, when the first play, you know, setting the tone,
29:32you know, get a big stop, get a TFL, you know, go out there, get a sack, get an interception,
29:36you know, something that will get the team hyped up, get the offense hyped up,
29:40and go out there and, you know, go out there and get a touchdown.
29:42So, you know, anything that we can do from an energy standpoint,
29:45from, you know, changing the momentum of the game,
29:48anything we can do as far as that is good, big for us.
29:52And, Jordan, you know, from my point of view,
29:53you can tell just how close this locker room is in general,
29:56but it seems to be even more so in the secondary.
29:59Anytime I see you guys together, you're laughing, joking around.
30:01Just what is – what makes this friendship and camaraderie amongst your group just,
30:05you know, so unique and so special to you guys?
30:07Yeah, it's just, you know, it starts in the meeting room.
30:11It starts in the meeting room.
30:12It starts in the meeting room, you know.
30:14Guys come in, you know, we love it up, dab each other up.
30:17We do all our handshakes and everything with the DBs,
30:20and then we started doing it with the defense as well the day before a game.
30:24So, you know, just, you know, getting that –
30:27building that relationship with each other, you know,
30:28it helps with us on the field and then, you know, off the field as well.
30:32You know, it makes guys comfortable.
30:34Even when we have a new guy coming to the locker room,
30:36it makes them comfortable, you know, to be able to speak to us, you know,
30:38and get right in tune, you know, real quick.
30:41So that's something I value about our team, the relationships we build.
30:45Oh, absolutely.
30:46Now, taking yourself out of the equation,
30:47who's the biggest jokester in the secondary?
30:50Biggest dresser?
30:51Jokester.
30:51Oh, jokester.
30:53Besides me, I've got to be Tyson Anderson.
30:56Got to be.
30:57Got to be Tyson.
30:58Appreciate the time, Jordan.
31:00Of course.
31:00You're welcome.
31:02Thank you very much, Marissa.
31:03Great job all preseason as always.
31:05We may hear from you again.
31:06We'll see how the game continues here.
31:09By the way, that stop from battle is because he was watching Rashad Owens
31:12try and leap a man.
31:15That was the first third-down conversion of the game for Cincinnati,
31:18and now they're starting to move upfield a bit.
31:21Jordan Moore hit by Trey Washington,
31:23and with under four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, we talk about it.
31:27Some of these guys, it's the practice squad.
31:29It's having someone else have that tape on you,
31:32and any way to prolong, whether it's your time in Cincinnati or in the NFL,
31:37don't tell me this game doesn't matter to the 22 guys on the field right now.
31:41You're exactly right.
31:44These guys are out there busting it, and it matters to them.
31:48It's important to them, and that's why they're still going very, very hard,
31:52even with three minutes left in the preseason.
31:55Conley able to bulldoze his way forward.
31:57Busting what exactly?
31:59Busting their tails, man.
32:00They're leaving it.
32:01It's a hot day.
32:02You know, afterwards, these guys, you talked about the defense.
32:06They're going to be spent.
32:07You talk about 20 straight plays.
32:09They've been busting it.
32:10They've been busting it and leaving it on the field.
32:13And some of those guys that aren't dressed out,
32:15they're busting a few steps on the sideline too.
32:18I'm getting excited.
32:22I'm looking for Cleveland.
32:23Look out, baby.
32:27If you guys want to come tailgate, drive up to Cleveland,
32:29make your way up here, baby.
32:31Yeah, let's go.
32:34Oh, my.
32:36So that was right near the line to gain,
32:38and you wonder if this is worthy of a look.
32:40They don't bring the chains out anymore.
32:48They needed to get essentially right to the yard marker.
32:52Here's the virtual measurement.
32:55Eight inches short.
32:56Wow, look at that.
32:59Huh.
33:00Interesting.
33:02Are you enjoying that new wrinkle?
33:04I am.
33:05I am.
33:05As long as they don't use the virtual for holding.
33:08Yeah, that's right.
33:09Have you been watching the Cincinnati Open where it's, you know,
33:12the ball hits the line and they zoom in with Hawkeye?
33:15I haven't.
33:16I haven't.
33:16Well, I'm just telling you, fans start clapping.
33:19There's a lot of excitement that zooms in.
33:22I've been to the U.S. Open a couple times,
33:24and it's like the most exciting part of the day.
33:26I'm more than watching the tracer.
33:29Yeah.
33:29Rory hit it with the tracer.
33:31Is he cutting it?
33:32You know, and the putting now.
33:33They have the putting line.
33:34I've got to remember that about tennis.
33:36I'd love to see how that's working.
33:38So they needed two, and they got a yard and four inches.
33:42A yard and two feet.
33:43Four and balls on the turf.
33:47There is a flag down.
33:49It is on the Colts' side of the line of scrimmage.
33:53It was fourth down and eight inches to go.
33:55Joseph Vaughn got in the middle of it and appeared to recover it.
33:59Offsides on the defense, number 36, five-yard penalty, automatic first down.
34:08This isn't virtual offsides.
34:10This is real offsides.
34:11That's right.
34:12B.J. Mays, there was no camera looking at you.
34:15The official with his own two eyes saw you.
34:17There are folks, FC Cincinnati fans watching this game right now, or Louisville City fans,
34:23or Lexington SC fans, or I suppose Toronto or Vancouver or Montreal, you get the point,
34:29who have seen way too many virtual offside lines drawn and don't care for it.
34:33So let's just keep it with the measurements, all right?
34:36Exactly.
34:37I'm off with that.
34:38Yeah.
34:39Hand off off the right-hand side.
34:42And this will get up to the 38-yard line.
34:44We are ticking down toward the two-minute warning at the conclusion of this third and final preseason game for the Bengals.
34:55Neither team played their starters tonight as both sides are focused on 15 days from now.
35:03We'll wrap it after this.
35:14Bust your tail through preseason and training camp and try and earn your way into the practice squad.
35:21Everyone wants to make the 53, and on Tuesday, the Bengals will announce the group that they intend to bring with them to Cleveland.
35:27But these are some of the guys that got cut at the end of camp and ended up making big impacts over the last handful of years.
35:35You know, I was speaking to Jake Browning in the locker room at training camp, and he said,
35:38points to Tanner Hudson, I feel like I've been throwing to this guy forever.
35:42Of course, they've looked pretty good when they've hooked up in preseason to this point.
35:46But you can anticipate there will be practice squad guys this year at the end of the season.
35:51You go, that guy won or lost us a game.
35:54Well, two years ago, Jake Browning comes in.
35:56Thorne going long.
35:57Oh.
35:58And that knocked away from Cole Burgess.
36:01Yeah, a couple years ago, he was locked into that backup quarterback job.
36:04Then he's thrust into the starting role.
36:06And plays amazing.
36:07He's holding defense number 36, five-yard building, automatic first down.
36:15B.J. Mays, the guilty party, got cut the first week of August by Philadelphia
36:19and got signed five days later.
36:21Rookie out of Texas A&M.
36:25That's why Burgess didn't pull it down.
36:27By the way, Burgess played at SUNY Cortland.
36:32SUNY Cortland actually won the national championship in D3,
36:37the stag bowl over the program that Peyton Thorne's dad and grandfather both shepherded as the head coach.
36:45Wow.
36:48There he goes.
36:49Get the corner.
36:50Conley got the sideline.
36:53And out of bounds inside the 20.
36:55Trying to put a highlight up here with a buck 47 to go.
36:58B.J. Mays got a whole fistful of the Qualy Conley stiff arm.
37:04I tell you what, he got that corner in a hurry with that stiff arm and took it upfield.
37:08He didn't hesitate.
37:10Let's take a look at that.
37:11Him get around the corner here.
37:13He starts out.
37:13Nice block right there.
37:14He goes on.
37:15Oh, just get away.
37:16Okay.
37:17Oh, there's another one.
37:20Good run by Conley.
37:22Hard running.
37:22I mean, we've talked about that with these running backs.
37:24I mean, Brightwell, Milton, not Conley.
37:28They brought it.
37:29Thorne to throw.
37:31Thorne.
37:32Flushed.
37:33Stayed alive.
37:34Spins once more.
37:36Finally, he's finished back at the 29.
37:38Tim Smith finally got him down.
37:43He gets engulfed at the end.
37:45About five Colts laid a hand on him.
37:47Haynes was in there among numerous horseshoe-wearing defenders.
37:54There's one.
37:55They got his jersey.
37:56Gets up.
37:57There he is.
37:57I had him there.
37:59Alas.
38:00Gave it a little bit of John Travolta.
38:02Staying alive there for Wes.
38:06Thorne's dad and grandfather were head coaches at D3 North Central College.
38:12Thorne out of Michigan State, then Auburn.
38:14Thorne to throw.
38:15Got him.
38:16Spinning back to the football.
38:18Cole Burgess pulls it in.
38:20Nice back shoulder throw.
38:23Oh, Burgess making a nice catch on that one.
38:26Take a look at it.
38:27Thorne gets it out there.
38:31Defender is still running, and Burgess is turning back around and making the catch.
38:36Nice connection there.
38:37Bengals have their timeouts, but with 35 seconds and counting, this will probably get done with
38:43a running clock.
38:44Thorne to throw into the flat.
38:47It's Moore inside the five.
38:50The clock will run.
38:52And you heard the shout for a timeout.
38:58The Bengals are going to want to get this in.
38:59It's a missed tackle initially from Tennyson that gives the extra yardage to Moore, and
39:05then B.J.
39:06Mays comes in and eventually pushes him toward the sideline.
39:10And, you know, Zach Taylor said this game matters for these guys.
39:13He's going to use the timeout.
39:15He's going to spend the extra couple minutes and ensure that these guys get a real shot at
39:18it.
39:19Well, you can tell it matters to Moore.
39:20It takes three guys to get them down.
39:22He'll lose one tackler, then it takes two guys.
39:24He's not going down to the first hit.
39:26You know, these guys are still wanting to play here.
39:28He's got 18 seconds left.
39:30Game clock getting a little nudge to 20 seconds.
39:37First down and goal.
39:38Four chances for these guys to get this into the end zone.
39:47Peyton Thorne's ready.
39:50He's got Conley to his left.
39:54Thorne looks back corner.
39:57And popped away from Burgess.
40:01It's B.J.
40:02Mays on the coverage.
40:12Probably see a couple more.
40:13Two, three more.
40:14Let's see.
40:14Second down.
40:16At least three more tries.
40:17If they don't punch it in, try to score here.
40:27Forth takes the snap.
40:32Conley is in for a Cincinnati touchdown.
40:39How great is that?
40:40Come in and score a touchdown.
40:42Regardless of what happens, man.
40:48I took the rock in the end zone and scored me a touchdown.
40:51Great job, Conley.
40:52Way to run.
40:53Hard running.
40:54Look at this.
40:56Says there's one guy to beat, and he's not going to stop me from getting in the end zone.
41:00No, it's going to take a lot more from Ladarius Tennyson than a tackle from the side.
41:06But Conley is a human bowling ball.
41:0913 plays, 69 yards, over 548.
41:16Oh, no.
41:17Not good.
41:17I think there's, yeah, confusion about who should be out there.
41:20And this happens a lot when you get to the end of the roster.
41:24And we had the injury to Caleb Etienne, and so you see Jackson Kirkland running in.
41:31You sort of wonder, with this unit, should it have been Etienne, had he been available?
41:37And then everyone needs to be on the same page.
41:43So Rico will hold.
41:46It's Wagner who will snap.
41:47This is his last effort at the long snapping competition alongside Adam Itis.
41:54And McPherson has a perfect preseason.
42:00Exactly what Bengals fans wanted to hear.
42:07The Bengals scoring drive was brought to you by Paramount+.
42:11Qualy Conley from four yards out seals the deal.
42:15And the Bengals get their first touchdown of the second half with 13 seconds remaining.
42:22It's amazing you brought up the stat that, you know, they hadn't run a play in the fourth quarter.
42:2620 straight plays.
42:27All of a sudden, they say, okay, we'll reel off 13 plays and we'll score a touchdown.
42:30And so that's a good way to end it.
42:31Good way to finish it.
42:32Strong running back.
42:33Nice running the football.
42:35Nice short passes.
42:36Hard running by the wide receivers after they caught the football.
42:40Very impressed.
42:42You know, I always see them come out for the dynamic kickoff,
42:45and I think they're running an onside.
42:47My eyes divert to the wrong place.
42:50McPherson's on the other side.
42:52Yeah.
42:53Nope, not necessary today.
42:56And the Bengals will look forward to Cleveland in 15 days.
43:03And in 22 days, they'll throw the doors open here at Pacor again when it really counts.
43:09McPherson.
43:10It's that through the back of the end zone.
43:21And the Colts offense will trot out onto the field and finish the job.
43:26Jason Bean, by the way, who was injured on a sack earlier in the quarter,
43:31does come out, although he's going to come out and kneel.
43:34Yep.
43:34But good to see him back on the field.
43:36Yeah, it is.
43:37It always is.
43:38You never want to see a guy pick up a knock right here,
43:41because even if you're not going to make the 53-man of the practice squad here,
43:45and maybe he does,
43:46but it also inhibits your ability to move forward into another team as well.
43:53So, Bean will head under center, drop to one knee,
43:56and that's the end of the preseason.
43:59The Bengals will finish with a win and two defeats.
44:02And it was the game against Washington in which the starters played most
44:08that they impressed the most.
44:11The Colts win it 41-14.
44:14Plenty more to come after this.
