00:00about the bigger sets bigger tight ends or more tight ends and they've increased their motion
00:04usage every year and this is where motion can become effective it's not just eye candy it's
00:09to move pieces yeah and again it's a little probably too complicated to like dive in on a
00:14live broadcast but it's actually a really fascinating conversation because you see so
00:18many teams doing it around the league so i'm a viewer i'm saying why it's for that exact reason
00:24it adds gaps it changes the run fit it makes defensive backs have to be run fit players
00:30when you change strengths they're really leaning on jimmy horn to try to get some moves in space and
00:37there is maxwell hairston making his nfl debut number 30 pick in this past draft was dealing
00:44with a knee injury was activated the other day makes his debut and makes a tackle in space on horn
00:50a fellow rookie yeah i think hey you're gonna see horn he's coming out i think he's a little
00:55banged up he took a big shot there by hairston i think something they're conscious of in buffalo
01:00is just getting more athletic on the defensive backfield hairston jordan hancock another rookie
01:06you're gonna see a lot more of these young talented athletic defensive backs as buffalo tries to get
01:12younger and faster
01:13dalton fires left and it's off the hand of mcmillan incomplete dalton's been frustrated a few times a
01:23couple of throws that have been just off target the fumble on the early drive as well and it's fourth
01:29down and carolina is gonna have to punt it away yeah you have to wonder if that press coverage there
01:34by christian benford just threw off the timing you can see andy he's trying to get that ball out of
01:39his hand mcmillan goes one more revolution meaning he takes one more additional cycle of his feet and
01:45that's why the timing the ball is inside and early and that's just not having a ton of reps working
01:51together sam martin lot of hang time on this one keon coleman will get a chance from the 20 yard line
02:00and took quite the hit flying in was claude and shearless
02:04a four yard return on a 49 yard punch inside of six for the half
02:12well it's already the best rushing half by any running back in the nfl this season so far
02:21146 yards on the ground from james cook
02:25and it's the most rush yards over expected meaning so so next gen had it does a great job of tracking
02:33all right based on the body count how many people are blocked and guys around the ball they calculate
02:39like on average what would a typical running back gain on every carry that's the most rush yards and a half
02:44over the expected total in the history of next gen tracking these stacks and since 2017 it's pretty
02:52remarkable and if you're going back to 1992 thurman thomas era numbers for any buffalo running back
02:58that is pretty good and that's what james cook is doing right now he gets seven more yards he's over
03:04150 look at what they have been doing now again are the jets and dolphins really scaring you
03:11offensively i understand that but they played a pretty good cowboy team with a pretty good running
03:15back at javante williams and we're able to hold them in check not the case so far today
03:19yeah and again out of the 146 112 has been before contact right so it's the combination of the backs
03:27having a ton of space and then of course as you saw in the long cook the ability to make guys miss in
03:32the open field so now allen trying to use the leverage in his favor with the fake he finds the
03:38rookie jackson hawes for just his fifth nfl catch he'll spot him right near the line to gain
03:45and they'll give him the first down yeah so kind of a funny story so rob boris is the buffalo bills
03:53tight end coach he was my first ever tight end coach when i got drafted in chicago there with
03:59lovey smith back in 07 so he was my first ever coach and one of the best guys in the league he said
04:04they have a running chart in their tight end room because they did so much jumbo last year that every
04:09time jackson hawes catches a pass they like make a tally because it's like hey it's one more than we ever
04:14got ahead of our jumbo tackle a year ago allen taking the first deep shot down the field that
04:22we've seen he was looking for elijah moore and the throw off target moore was in space and allen's
04:28pass goes wayward yes
04:31yes let's talk a little bit about this buffalo passing game obviously we've spent pretty much
04:38the entire first half rightfully so you see merrick he falls down just a ball that josh allen's used to
04:44putting on the mark you can see he doesn't hit it but you know we've talked a lot about the run game but
04:49what has this passing game been they do throw the ball downfield at a pretty good clip it's just
04:54the efficiency and the effectiveness is not what we're accustomed to out of this offense
04:59there's ray davis second year man out of kentucky has carried the ball 14 times now this year merrick is
05:06there for the stop it's third down
05:08you'll take a look here you know at one point this was the most explosive passing game you'll see there
05:14top five between 2020 2023 and these are these are throws that went in the air 20 yards so no run
05:21after catch and in the last we'll call it season and a half he's only got one and shockingly andy dalton
05:28has two so an element of their offense that's scary if they get that going along with having the best
05:35player in the world and this run game they're gonna be hard to beat allen on the scramble
05:41well carolina's coverage has been pretty sticky so far moore trying to get free beg your pardon shakir
05:49and it's out of bounds some more of that sticky coverage from shaw smith wade all right here's
05:56something crazy and this is like the obscure stat of the league i know that one they rule incomplete
06:01but like josh allen throwing the ball one yard from the sideline he has like more completions than he
06:09does it's like ridiculous he doesn't take sacks he completes balls you see shakir just can't quite get
06:14his feet down the play is live the entire 53 and a third width of this field and he is uniquely good
06:22at extending the play mitch wish now ski boots it away 47 yard punt fair catch from trevor etn
06:32both teams have all three timeouts you still got the two minute warning to come and the panthers down
06:37dolden comes out in charlotte all right so you want to see a cool little cat and mouse game so they use
06:45ty johnson what they call a tear motion this is how they try to decide who's going to come so at first
06:51they're trying to identify is roseboom coming so they put the mic watch everyone go now to trevin wallace
06:58here now as we run it you're going to see carolina they flip the blitz now
07:02they flip the blitz you can see them communicating roseboom points and now they bring roseboom and now
07:09it keeps johnson in the backfield so now as josh allen goes to scramble he's losing his check down
07:16so that's called blitz the back you want to find out who does the line have that means the back has the
07:22other guy we're going to blitz that guy and make sure it's not a fifth eligible receiver getting out
07:28that's a really good job there by carolina's defense and they take an option away in a blitz
07:32situation nothing there for chuba hubbard nice play by cole bishop you saw jimmy horn jr
07:38walking along the sidelines so he's unavailable seemingly on this drive for
07:42andy dalton and the panthers it's gonna be interesting to see how aggressive
07:50does dave canalis want to be here on offense knowing
07:53bills are going to get the ball to start the third quarter so a little under three minutes
07:57buffalo's got all the remaining timeouts and the two-minute warning
08:01you don't want josh allen to possess the ball on back-to-back possessions before and after the
08:06halftime break dalton
08:11scrambling and throwing and lee get trying to keep those feet inbounds makes the catch and then out of
08:17bounds you're not at the two-minute warning yet so the clock will still start when they reset the ball
08:23so the question is did lee get step out of bounds and then be the first one to touch the ball
08:30that's typically when the official's hat comes off we'll see what they determine legal touching yeah
08:36gas yeah number 17 stepped out of bounds if i rule that is a loss of down it'll be third down yep there
08:43it is he saw that right foot step out right there next to jatavion sanders on the sideline
08:50good job there by the official b oh he stepped out a couple times so
08:53i think that's probably why he had a flag he threw his hat
08:57i don't know what was next i wonder what might have been next but yeah once you see just let it be
09:02once you see the hat come off that typically means somebody stepped out about an offensive player stepped
09:06out yeah so that kills you that that breaks it third down and long it's not only the loss of down but it's the
09:14basically like an incomplete pass
09:16dalton the hit as he throws floats it out there and somehow it was grabbed
09:21we'll see what the flag is but mcmillan just bailed out dalton running to the sideline let's check the
09:27marker on this particular snap
09:32yeah it's going to be on buffalo this play this will be declined they'll take the reception to
09:38mcmillan contact defense number 39 definitely declined result of the play his first out all right so think
09:46just a couple drives ago i talked about two man right so they're going to rotate here and they're going
09:51to have two high safeties everybody else is in man coverage and it's inside leverage and low so you
09:57want to run plays that break out and break high that's the leverage of the defender and that is a
10:03big time throw under pressure by andy dalton on a big third down and now they can try to be a little
10:08more aggressive here got to imagine they're going to try to take this not to the two minute interesting
10:15so now we get to the two minute warning they run it to get just a couple of yards
10:18and that will take us to the break or as greg mentioned buffalo ball to start the third quarter
10:26well don't and the panthers try to manufacture something at the end of this half against the buffalo d
10:34the absence of ed oliver over the course of the season has been felt by buffalo he came back after an
10:39ankle injury against atlanta but here lands awkwardly on that left arm with a big body 320 pounder
10:46icky akuanu on top of him so kind of pointing at that elbow so oliver is out for the time being
10:55all three timeouts for both teams clock rules change inside of two minutes no coaches challenges either
11:01oh three man rush that is picked off aj abanesa just grabbed it from dalton and took it down to the lawn
11:12that's about as athletic and impressive a play you're going to see from a defensive lineman
11:18the entire season trying to set up a quick little tunnel screen icky akuanu the left tackle
11:24runs right by him and you're just hoping if you're andy don't that when that gets deflected that it
11:32harmlessly look at it look at shaq shaq thompson he knows this play is coming they all take off
11:39to the tunnel screen and not only ability to read the play but then to deflect it and have the ability to
11:47track the ball and you talk about what the worst case scenario for carolina we said you don't want
11:54buffalo to possess the ball before the half and not only do they possess the ball they have the ball
11:59first and goal at the one tremendous play by epinesa a fabulous read by the former 10-year
12:05carolina panther shaq thompson who played with dalton the last couple of seasons
12:10had a very warm welcome from a lot of his former teammates and he helped epinesa and the defense
12:16get ready for it josh allen who's got the second most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in nfl history
12:25just added another one that is number 69 all time for allen on the ground only the great cam newton has
12:34more and they take advantage of that takeaway
12:41kind of a clever version of the tush push reggie gilliam started in the wing
12:48and they motion him so nothing says quarterback sneak you know you usually see guys there's nobody
12:53behind them but now they motion gilliam and he times the motion and now he's the push guy from behind
13:01and we're going to see teams continue to kind of explore creative ways especially when you have
13:08a quarterback as big and as athletic and strong like you do in buffalo with josh allen it was the 260
13:16pound six foot six aj epinesa who set it all up prater missed the pat his last time this one is good
13:26epinesa's third career pick his first in two years he nearly had his second career touchdown
13:32so again go back and take a look i mean he almost caught it off the jump which would have been like
13:36a five yard fastball in the face but after the bobble
13:43i promise you when he gets to the sideline bosa and all of his d-line boys they're giving him a hard
13:48time saying man you gotta score you can't get caught from behind but what an incredible play not only to
13:55dissect the play and know what's coming but obviously to execute it and pick it off
14:03you know we came on to the broadcast so i think it's it's worth noting here before the half
14:08adam that we came into the broadcast saying okay what what is this buffalo team some of their formula
14:13looks different offensively defensively you've had some issues it all has come back to the ability to take
14:19the ball away and protect the ball on offense we've said now three times plus 24 last year in
14:25differential pretty pretty big reason why you had such the year that you had and now after the two
14:31takeaways here in the first half it now puts them in the positive takeaway differential this season
14:39it's all a domino effect right yeah it's all connected you want you're not a good run team
14:44you know how you're not a good you know how you don't have to defend the run score a lot of points
14:48take the ball away when you're playing with a 16 point lead it doesn't matter how you defend the run
14:55there's etn
14:58gonna find some space past the 30. it is carolina ball let's take a moment to see what's coming up at
15:05halftime coming up on the verizon halftime we will have all the highlights including heisman winners
15:11caleb williams and derrick henry clashing in baltimore plus our own heisman winner charles woodson joins
15:16terry howie and michael at the desk to break it all down we'll see you then
15:26heisman action in the studio today with our buddy charles woodson
15:31still three timeouts dalton is pretty much right back where he was before the last snap just down
15:36to get more here's down as he continues to bang away with another strong run he's got a first down
15:45as we check in with pam oliver yeah adam he is just a force for the bills defense but they will not have
15:50him the rest of the way ed oliver has a bicep injury and he is out for the game that is a huge loss
15:58he's already been dealing with injury made such an impact against atlanta and against baltimore in the
16:03opening game of the season but now oliver is done for the day you might have to see larry ogun jobe
16:10is coming back from suspension a little more dalton dancing away from the pressure throws on the move
16:16and that'll stop the clock as mcmillan steps out in carolina territory nice job by dawn to pick up 17
16:22to his top target yeah just a great job by andy dawn feeling that pressure and stepping up
16:27that's what allowed mcmillan to just run all the way through this zone without that extra time
16:34created by dawn he's never going to clear that linebacker window and i think if you're dave
16:38canales this is touchdown or bust they cannot let buffalo get the ball back in the second half
16:46and dowdle continues to push so inside of a minute again all three timeouts are available
16:52just i think they got to continue to be aggressive yeah field goals ain't going to do it today so
17:00lighted out although i think he's giving them a little bit more juice than hubbard here in the
17:03first half he's got to get more touches dalton into a collapsing pocket they're going to have to
17:09take a sack and take a timeout with 33 seconds left and it's joey bosa in his 100th career nfl start
17:17he's got his third sack of the season so it'll be third down and long and we'll be right back after
17:22this from progressive um okay so hold on we want three double chickens and fries sorry three cheese
17:31burgers with mayo no no no don't forget my strawberry milk so hold on so we want we want four chickens
17:38with fries no sorry trubisky you're in mitch trubisky backup orderer if only there were backups in real
17:45life combo three no mayo come but at least there's progressive to protect your home and auto and one
17:50strawberry shake please try forward guys should we trade danny haha very funny
17:57so it'll be third down and long after the bosa sack
18:01that's his third of the season interestingly enough we knew dave canales was going to call the timeout it
18:07actually looked like sean mcdermott was also asking for a timeout because it's third and long and he's
18:12still have time to maybe try to get the ball back especially when you push them back further right
18:16and if they attempt here this would be a 59 yard field goal if they don't gain any here on third
18:20down if you miss it you got the ball midfield this is a huge down and he cannot take a sack and
18:27pick up as much yardage as you can dalton throws into space it is caught by jalen coker and he steps out of
18:35bounds to stop the clock oh they needed something there on third at 11 they got 22. that's the same
18:41coverage over and over it's two man he knows it's inside leverage so canalis is calling all out
18:47breaking routes and he's been on time now that's the third critical down passing situation that buffalo's
18:55dialed up cover two man and andy dalton had the answer because this was shaping up to be an absolutely
19:01disastrous end of a half for carolina you're in the game 12 3 you got the ball you got timeouts you got
19:10time after expedited review the run was down in bounds in lieu of a 10 second runoff carolina will take
19:16their second charge timeout to avoid the runoff
19:22so that's a tough spot to be in now again you're in the red zone so that helps
19:27to 30 seconds thank you let's see here yeah so take a look here this is on the last plate yeah
19:33so coker's right knee is clearly in it's the right call yeah good job upstairs you mentioned just the
19:38expedited replay heard the white hat mentioned that the ability for them to get these calls right
19:44it's just such a great move by the nfl now the last couple years we don't need long stoppages we don't
19:50need to go under the hood just if his knee was in bounds it was in bounds we got cameras all over
19:55the place make the right move and move on with the game that communication is the expedited review
20:02so much easier for both coaches players and for us watching and you guys sitting at home watching
20:07all right so now all right so here's the situation you got 30 seconds left of course you're thinking
20:11touchdown down 16 you said it now a second field goal is not going to do a whole lot buffalo gets
20:16the ball out of the break so first and 10 just inside the 20 you can throw the ball anywhere on the field
20:23and you don't necessarily have to waste your time out you can get up to the clock snap it again and
20:28hold that last time out in your back pocket so a lot of options here for andy dalton
20:36dalton with bosa charging in he tripped him up and brought him down there is a flag though it might be
20:41tripping i think it is i think this is going to be on bosa i think he stuck his left foot out and
20:46tripped him or did or was he held personal foul yeah tripping yeah defense number 97
20:59i'm not sure if i've ever been in a game where i've seen that haven't seen it very often at all
21:04watch oh yeah he clearly just sticks that left foot out and
21:10kind of sweeps the legs out from andy dalton and you can see bosa he felt it he knew it and now
21:20carolina has a lot of options yes take as many shots into the end zone you still can run the ball
21:26if you want because you do have a timeout so a lot of things on the table there's nobody in the middle
21:32of the field dalton was looking in that direction throws in that direction and mcmillan nearly tried to
21:38haul it in with one hand yeah that pre-snap that was the matchup one-on-one shaq thompson
21:45against mcmillan so it's cover two they're going to play and it's shaq thompson's job
21:49to carry this inside receiver vertical gets the matchup that he wants and andy just puts that ball
21:56too much on his back shoulder that's a foot too far to the left and it's a touchdown
22:02and dalton's first start of the year just three throws that are just right off yeah he's made a
22:09couple really good ones especially on those out breaking corners but a few others that the timing
22:14and location has to be expected here comes a blitz from buffalo it's a screen against a blitz and
22:21sanders takes it down inside the five and canales will have to use that final timeout
22:33all right so watch watch andy he pats his his side and then he signals the number three
22:39see him give that number three yep that's the number three receiver it's just block block flat route
22:46we still call that a block or there's a lot of different terminologies look
22:50see the signal of number three it's an automatic when you see zero meaning everyone is blitzing
22:57except the defenders who have a man responsibility and that's the veteran quarterback recognizing pre-snap
23:03and getting himself a positive play knowing he has a timeout to stop the clock screens against blitzes
23:10are oftentimes the most productive places because you have all this defensive attention in the middle
23:14not as much attention on the outside and sanders nearly busted it through
23:18but now it's third down and goal you still have two this feels like two shots to the end zone right
23:22it does and if you're buffalo you're probably just playing the pass i i don't think it'd be wise if
23:27you're carolina unless you just love to look to hand it off this feels like
23:32two pass attempts and now mcdermott's going to take a timeout and talk it over buffalo this is a 30
23:3830 second timeout
23:42yoshinobu yamamoto for the dodgers last night outstanding he's pretty good likely nl cy young
23:46winner he shut down the blue jays in his second complete game of the postseason and now this series
23:52is even up at one apiece going back to los angeles and a great pitching matchup tyler glass now
23:58against max scherzer who got the win in the championship series against seattle you have the
24:04stars otani and guerrero offenses have looked good in two different games for both teams pretty cool and
24:11there you look at uh joey bosa who's got something in common with max scherzer heterochromia iridium
24:18that means you got two different colored eyes bosa's got a right eye that's green and a left eye
24:23that's blue scherzer's right eye is blue and his left eye is brown i didn't come on to the broadcast
24:28thinking that i was going to learn that but tell you what adam very impressed i don't know what you just
24:33said dalton on third down can't take a sack and he takes the sack and that's going to take them to
24:43the end of the half yeah they're going to go mayday field goal i just don't think they're going to have time
24:48you just can't take a sack they're not going to get everybody off and oh did they fitzgerald missed it
24:55anyway oh that was so close i couldn't tell if carolina got all the offensive players off the field
25:03it was really close but nonetheless just a disastrous ending for carolina rousseau ended up getting that
25:12crucial buffalo sack and then the clock is still going they get it off at the snap so it may have
25:19counted it would have depended if carolina had all of its personnel properly off and on the field but a
25:27brutal end of the half for carolina as we look at the didn't settle top performer it is brought to you
25:32by state farm and something that carolina hasn't seen a whole lot of as of late is an opposing running
25:37back going off against him that's what james cook did and it's really been the explosive runs of
25:42course the long touchdown is the one that stands out but even in between on a play-by-play basis it's six
25:48yards it's ten yards a lot of it coming behind dion dawkins on the left side of that off thank you
25:55dominant performance especially on the ground by this buffalo offense and they've got the lead and the
26:01the ball coming their way in the third and you've got kerb menifee in los angeles for the verizon halftime
26:31today's game flow presented by progressive and a 19 to 3 buffalo bills lead at the halftime break
26:39and buffalo receives the kickoff to begin this second half the two turnovers by carolina including
26:45one late in the first half crucial 10 of the 19 points for buffalo coming off those two takeaways
26:52they'd only had five takes all season coming into action today andy dolphin with a fumble and a pick
27:01james cook had a huge first half running the ball for buffalo this is a crucial drive to start this
27:08third quarter curtis samuel has to grab that and he'll take a knee pam oliver moments ago with dave
27:14canalis the coach of the panthers all right dave obviously not the way you wanted to end that half
27:21tell me about some stuff you want to start and then build upon yeah i thought the bills did an excellent
27:25job getting the run game going we got to settle that down uh james cook's making a lot of extra yards
27:30so let's take care of that offensively let's take care of the ball we're taking points off the board
27:34we got to be smarter with the ball so we can execute finish drives appreciate it all right thank you
27:40and it'll be adro rivero's defense that has to make a move for carolina josh allen and the
27:49bills with a chance to extend on a 16-point lead right out of the gate
28:00and here is cook who had 153 rushing yards in that first half penalty flag is thrown on the play
28:06holding offense number 79 it's a 10-yard penalty still first down cook was cooking in that first
28:19half the last time an nfl player had 150 rushing yards in the first half james's older brother
28:26dalman cook did it four years ago with the minnesota vikings against the pittsburgh steelers
28:30that runs in the family i mean i was there a couple years ago home game in buffalo
28:37against the dallas cowboys this was 2023 between the top teams in the league and that was really
28:42like the coming out party for james cook and since then he's he's been as good as any back in the
28:50entire league ran for 179 in that game a career high at the time there's josh allen on a design run to
28:57the left not a ton of design runs this year for allen but he picks up about five there and it's
29:02second down yeah it seems like they're really intentional about how they want to run josh allen
29:08goal line short yardage critical plays a little interesting there at first and long but you know
29:14i think that's something as the year goes on i think joe brady has a really good pulse him and sean
29:18mcdermott understand there's going to be a time multiple times throughout critical moments in the game
29:24where they're going to have to go back to putting all of the load on 17 because he's that kind of
29:30player in this league nice quick slant shakir in space roseboom tripped him up up to the 38 yard line
29:40so much more makeable third down and seven now that's something that joe brady talked to us about he said
29:47you know what we're finding is when we're really good on first down of course a lot of that is this run
29:51game throughout the entire season when we're not it's the second and ten it's the two in essence
29:58called what he called two third downs that we're not so good at so a nice job there overcoming the
30:03holding call both on the run and the completion now at least this gives them a chance but they've
30:08got to be good identifying where the rush is coming from
30:12stunked up front got picked up brown chasing allen flag is thrown near side and that pass goes nowhere
30:22closest man was tyrell shavers nearest side of the field is where that flag came from i think this
30:28is going to go on jc horn
30:32if it's defensive holding it's a fresh set of downs for buffalo
30:35there's a conversation going on down here and the official stopped his announcement
30:42there you go holding defense number eight
30:47it's a five-yard penalty automatic first down you said it earlier greg jc horn has been one of the
30:52best cover corners in the nfl this season he's gotten tagged a couple of times for penalties in
30:57this game and this one is a hurtful one because they were about to get off the field and instead it's
31:02a fresh set of outs and you can see he was arguing he's up top here he's always the boundary corner
31:08meaning he's to the short side of the field and tyrell shavers just running right at him and just
31:15anytime you take a guy to the ground whether you grab him or not in the open field the official's gonna
31:21he's gonna throw that flag 10 out of 10. so right back to cook hoping for the cutback and eventually
31:29is the safety nick scott that stops him after a three-yard game
31:35sign an extension to james cook pro bowler
31:40key piece to the overall offensive attack and it is just still odd to see there's no number
31:47true number one receiver drafted keon coleman hoping that he would kind of evolve into that
31:51hasn't really come to that point just yet they re-signed gabriel davis coming off his injury last
31:57year from jacksonville he's still on ir hoping that at some point maybe he could be deployed
32:04blitz coming so allen got rid of it to shakir and this is where buffalo hurts you in space shakir
32:11cut back touchdown he's gone
32:13their second touchdown of 50 plus yards today and they got they got almost 10 missed tackles i mean
32:30this this has just been a clinic as far as offensive efficiency and ball control and then the carolina
32:36defense you understand when you're gonna pressure and you're gonna blitz josh allen his ability to get
32:42the ball out of his hand to the likes of just their ability to run after catch their ability to make
32:50guys miss it's really been the story of the game both run and pass and shakir is one of the best in the
32:55league after the catch and this is something that they wanted to get back to what did we see week one
33:01james cook screen pass 51 yards right catch and run that was the longest pass play of the season
33:07all the way back in the first game this is the longest pass play of the season for buffalo
33:12allen flying shakir for the catch and run and the emotional touchdown to go up 23.
33:18today's game on fox is sponsored by ford
33:29one of the comments from joe brady the offensive coordinator for the bills this week stuck out
33:33said we can get explosives without having to throw the ball down the field all the time
33:37i agree with you at some point they're gonna have to but they got what they were looking for there that
33:42catch and run by shakir was impressive we'll go to the end zone 35 yard line for the touchback for
33:50carolina and this looks familiar to you doesn't it you saw a lot of this with cam newton in his career
33:56one pass touchdown and one rushing touchdown 45 times josh allen has now passed him with 46.
34:02yeah it's pretty incredible i mean what what cam was obviously able to do here in carolina and
34:08the ability to run the ball design runs he was really one of the first quarterbacks of this
34:13era to be like a true goal line runner it wasn't even necessarily quarterback sneaks it was quarterback
34:18power and he's jumping over the line of scrimmage but there's a lot of similarities in josh allen big
34:24body athletic his ability obviously to just operate as a true passer and obviously both the guys are mvps
34:32dalton starts with a slant strike to mcmillen it's good for a first down let's go down
34:36out of the field and check in with pam oliver yeah adam for the bills sean mcdermott very succinct
34:41when we spoke at the half to my question about the bills maintaining dominance defensively his answer
34:48was we've just got to keep on working killing the run game now how did the bills ramp up their
34:53dangerous passing attack mcdermott said simply stay two-dimensional interesting stuff thank you pam as
35:00always dalton throws an incompletion that'll bring a second down it's always curious and and
35:06there's a million variables that go into what happens after a bye week right but to sean mcdermott's
35:10credit eight no in his career after the bye week we're like well what did you do during that time you
35:15said he went to his wife jamie and his wife jamie is a teacher so she understands what it's like when you
35:22finally get a break and you want to go back over all your stuff all your all your lesson plans and how do i
35:26deal with this student or that student so she basically gave sean permission to take the week
35:33and kind of grind out some film and go over some of the deficiencies for the bills in the first half of
35:38the season seemingly so far it's worked on both sides of the ball today and jordan phillips up from
35:45the practice squad has his 25th career sack in a buffalo bills uniform yeah just a good job playing
35:54through the contact he's lined up here brady christensen the right guard but when you go
35:58empty and there's no backs and you only have five protectors the second there's a pump the second this
36:04ball doesn't come out on time you just really stress your five offensive linemen and tell you what this is
36:11as good as we've seen this buffalo front we we know they got some guys that can get after the passer
36:17they're built to play from the lead we talked a lot about that run defense it doesn't matter right
36:23now and everything is going brutally for the panthers joey bosa ends up touching dalton down so
36:31he'll get credit for the sack and this has been a rough go in domes first start in over a year
36:37hey see you see bosa he's putting his hand up saying that was me that was me that was me
36:42so the ball hit chuba hubbard's left arm so not on andy dalton austin corbett just i thought it was
36:53a little strange that chuba was so tight to the to andy and his blitz protect protection and the
37:00center's just slightly off with the snap and it hits him it's almost he was like in the passing lane
37:04for the snap essentially shakir is going to let this one roll he's going to scoop it behind the 10
37:11and get it to about the 12 to 59 yard punch
37:19a short return bills are having fun they're feeling good trying to get the bad taste out of their
37:24mouth from the back-to-back losses and both sides of the ball have had some uh spikes to let some of
37:30the tension out so sean mcdermott spent six years as the carolina defensive coordinator under ron
37:39rivera gets the job in buffalo and you hope that you get the right personnel around you the right
37:45players you hit on your draft picks a year later josh allen gets picked out of wyoming and this has
37:51become a pretty good marriage of defensive minded head coach and now mvp quarterback
38:01allen's never lost three consecutive starts in the nfl and he's won every of one of his games
38:07after a bye week cooked with a good run on first step yeah you go back to you know our time here in
38:11carolina and obviously ron rivera and the staff that he put together sean mcdermott as the defensive
38:18coordinator had every bit of a role as anybody in the organization i mean what he did with the defense
38:23and his ability to develop you know luke keekly and thomas davis you know you go you know shaq thompson
38:28in his time like you don't coach nine years as a head coach in today's day and age as a head coach
38:34if you don't know what you're doing i mean sean mcdermott has a really good pulse for his team he's
38:38got a good pulse for what it takes to win we've talked a lot this looks different it feels different
38:44but when they play like today the formula works another good run for cook a first down as he continues to
38:50pound his way towards a new career high five straight afc east titles for buffalo obviously
38:57there feels more like it's uh gonna be more of a dog fight maybe this year especially with how well
39:01new england has played they've come back to now take a two touchdown lead on cleveland today
39:06so the bill is trying to win to keep pace with new england whom they've lost to once already in a home
39:11game and they'll face later this year
39:18played new england in the final month of the season again
39:21gonna be on the road in foxborough here's cook another good run another double-digit yard run
39:29so obviously it was the tom brady era right they won 11 consecutive division titles in the afc east
39:34and then in 2020 they finally break through buffalo gets back they win the division title for the first
39:39time in a long time and they have controlled the division for the most part the patriots obviously
39:45up to a very solid start this year dolphins by the way playing well against atlanta today for those
39:51curious atlanta atlanta can't figure out what they want to be that's right they look incredible another
39:57week they look like they've never played before they got shut out by carolina earlier this year and
40:01they go ahead and beat the bills who look incredible today the bills went on monday night two weeks ago
40:06allen away from the grain finds coleman that's a first down into carolina territory let's get a game
40:14break from carissa thompson speaking of which all right let's do that adam patriots up nine drake may
40:20throw his second touchdown pass of the day this one to stefan diggs patriots in front 23 to 7
40:25over the browns right on cue it's a two-man race in the east say well you got to have a lot of
40:32appreciation for what variable has done turning that around last year they were struggle bus in new
40:39england and just shows you get the right guy very similar what we just talked about with sean mcdermott
40:44and the success they've had here in buffalo you get the right guy at head coach you get the right guy behind
40:49center that marriage can take you a long way in this league those are the two most critical hires
40:56that any ownership group any front office group if you can hire the right head coach and you can draft
41:00or acquire the right quarterback you can make up for a lot of weaknesses throughout the course of
41:08throughout the kind of entirety of your roster and i think sean mcdermott's done a nice job reinventing
41:14themselves year in and year out playing to the strengths but also
