00:00Former Prime Minister Najib Razak had no hand in any conspiracy to defraud SRC International
00:05Sindhiyan Berhad, his lawyer told the High Court.
00:09In closing submissions at the end of a civil suit brought by the company, Farhan Shafi said
00:13the scheme, if it ever existed, was between fugitive financier Lo Tejo, also known as
00:18Joe Lo, and former SRC CEO Nikfaisal Arif Kamil.
00:23Farhan said the company's claim of a grand conspiracy involving Najib was fiction, contending
00:27that the blame lay in stead with corporate governance failures and the actions of other
00:32individuals unknown to him.
00:34Farhan was submitting in Najib's defense to a US$1.18 billion civil suit brought against
00:39him and Nikfaisal, who remains at large, for allegedly misappropriating company property
00:44and dishonestly conspiring to convert it to their own use.
00:48He submitted that Lo had pursued his own agenda by exploiting SRC and 1MDB for personal gain
00:54and alleged that Nikfaisal acted as Lo's agent within the company.
00:58Farhan asserted that Lo and Nikfaisal were aided by directors who had clear self-interest
01:02to shift blame upwards.
