00:00While people in Gaza battle hunger, they're also under constant Israeli bombardment.
00:05Attacks have killed at least 11 Palestinians since dawn on Sunday,
00:08including five who were looking for food.
00:11At least two were killed near a food site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
00:16Israel has repeatedly attacked hungry Palestinians at the site
00:20near the Netzerim Corridor in central Gaza.
00:23The injured have been taken to the Al-Auda hospital.
00:25And overnight, Israeli warplanes have carried out waves of airstrikes in northern Gaza.
00:35In Jabalia, ground troops detonated an explosive device planted in the city.
00:40Israeli forces are targeting densely populated residential areas, forcing families to move south.
00:51And the Israeli military plans to seize Gaza City in a large-scale offensive.
00:55Now, tanks have been moving through the neighbourhood of Sabra.
00:58It follows days of intense bombardment.
01:01Tens of thousands of reservists have been called up for the military operation.
01:06And funerals are being held for Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza City.
01:11Mourners have been gathering at the Al-Shifa hospital.
01:14I'm going to speak to Hani Mahmoud, who is in Gaza City.
01:16Hani, we've been seeing on some of the agency feeds here,
01:19there have been some airdrops over Deir al-Bala in particular.
01:22Can you just talk to us about what's been happening?
01:32Yes, Rob.
01:33In fact, we've been seeing these planes flying over Gaza City.
01:38They're coming from the northern part, the northern-western part of the Gaza Strip,
01:42passing through the skies of Gaza, and due to the airdrop in the central area,
01:48we counted up to three military cargo planes flying over the Gaza Strip.
01:53And this has, for almost a month, been going on.
01:57And it's most sporadic and unsafe and unpredictable way dropping pallets of food attached to parachutes
02:09falling on tent sites or residential buildings.
02:13Some of these residential buildings are still standing intact.
02:16But if people think this is a relief line, wait until you talk to people.
02:22Not only the amount of food in these parachutes and pallets that dropped on the ground here is insufficient,
02:29but the kind of food that is in these pallets does not address the spread of famine,
02:39does not address the deepening of humanitarian crisis.
02:42People are still lacking access to vital elements like protein and vitamins.
02:48Children are deprived from much of the nutrients that is needed for their growth.
02:54We're talking about vegetable and fruits and other basic elements.
02:58That's from the part that people are lacking now to have proper access.
03:04But airdropping, apart from the fact that it's not safe and it's unpredictable, it's sporadic,
03:11it's causing much of the internal fightings among the hungry crowds across the gods.
03:18We see much of the infighting between people because it's a survival mode.
03:23It's not about safety right now as much as it's about survival and the ability to survive
03:29and stay alive amid these difficult conditions.
03:33Also, many of the documented cases where these pallets attached to these parachutes fill directly
03:39on people or tent sites killing or injuring people as they were waiting for it.
03:45This is the form of relief that the Israeli military has directed to Palestinians that has been deadly so far.
03:52And, Hani, we can't, of course, forget that the attacks are continuing.
03:55We were talking about the Israeli warplanes carrying waves of airstrikes in northern Gaza just in the last several hours.
04:02I want to ask you, though, we're getting reports about ground troops detonating an explosive device in Jabalia planted in the city there.
04:10What more do we know about that?
04:12Well, this is one of the lethal ways the Israeli military has been implementing so far across the Gaza Strip.
04:24It does save occupying soldiers on the ground because they don't approach these densely populated areas.
04:33Rather, they move these explosive devices, form of robotics, vehicles that are moved within these densely populated areas during the night time.
04:43They're planted in areas strategically that will indeed detonate and explode.
04:48They cause massive scale of destruction to the targeted areas and its surrounding.
04:53The eyewitnesses described massive explosions and shrapnel flying as far as one kilometer at the diameter size area in Jabalia in a Zaytun neighborhood.
05:06One person who was at least 1.5 kilometer away from the explosion site reported collecting many of these shrapnel falling in the balconies of his home.
05:17And that's 1.5 kilometers.
05:19So imagine the kind of damage and the scale of destruction caused to the nearby buildings and, of course, people who are trapped in these areas.
05:30Doctors in hospital report receiving cases other than those who are directly injured or killed by these explosive devices.
05:39Those who inhale the smoke from these explosions suffer from respiratory problems now.
05:46Inability to breathe properly had to be put on ventilators.
05:50And, by the way, none of this is available in the hospital.
05:53Only a few of them.
05:54And they had to take turns between patients in order to save lives as much as they can.
05:59But that's one of the tactics used by the Israeli military.
06:03During the night, the sound of these explosions are massive.
06:06And they come from all directions.
06:09They're planted at night, started to detonate at early hours of the morning, just causing a state of panic and fear among already displaced and traumatized population.
06:18Hani Mahmoud in Gaza City.
06:20Hani, thank you.
