00:00The U.S. is defending Ambassador Charles Kushner's comments, accusing France of not doing enough
00:05to combat anti-Semitic violence. Kushner made the allegations in a letter to President Emmanuel
00:11Macron. The French foreign ministry says Kushner's accusations are unacceptable.
00:17They've summoned him to face what is expected to be a diplomatic rebuke.
00:22Rosalind Jordan reports from Washington, D.C.
00:24Mr. Kushner accused Macron and his government of turning a blind eye to anti-Semitic violence
00:31across France, of doing nothing to prevent it, and also criticizing the French government
00:37for saying that it's going to recognize an independent Palestinian state at the upcoming
00:42U.N. General Assembly. The French foreign ministry took umbrage, published the letter in the newspapers
00:49late on Sunday evening in France, and has now summoned Mr. Kushner to the foreign ministry
00:55for what can only be imagined would be a dressing down. The French ministry told the French press
01:03that what Mr. Kushner has done is a violation of international diplomatic treaties in which
01:09ambassadors are not supposed to interfere with internal political and foreign policy decisions
01:15by the host country. Kushner, it should be noted, already has a notorious reputation. He spent two
01:23years in federal prison on tax evasion, witness tampering, and fraud charges. He was later pardoned
01:29by Donald Trump, and he is now just one month into being U.S. Ambassador to France.
