00:00Nice to meet you, nice to meet you, I'm Abby, my name is Ali, nice to meet you, come in, is she?
00:20Hello, hi, nice to meet you Jade, my name's Ali, I'm Jade, lovely to meet you, hi, hello,
00:30Hi, you've known you from Little Mix, yes, correct, I was in Little Mix, oh, it's an X Factor, oh my gosh, that's such a throwback, we used to have to do that all the time.
00:53I'm Kevin, it's lovely to meet you, nice to meet you, I'm Ben, nice to meet you, hi, same thing, I'm Charlotte.
00:59How are you? I'm Dinani. Dinani. I'm your big bird. Oh, thank you, cheers.
01:14We're going to start now, Jacob, would you like to do our introduction? Let's go, Jacob.
01:19Welcome to the Assembly, our collective of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled interviewers.
01:25Our rules are, no question is out of bound, no subject is off the table, and all might happen, prepare for hard questions today.
01:35Please tell us who you are.
01:37I am Jade Thirlwall, and I'm very happy to be here.
01:42So I'm Jacob, everyone.
01:44Hi, Jacob.
01:45Good job, Jackie.
01:47Good job.
01:48We're going to come to Paul first.
01:50Hello, Paul.
01:51Hello, I'm Paul.
01:53Yeah.
01:55A lot of ex-factor readers have sold their soul. Do you regret selling yours?
02:00Do I regret selling my soul?
02:03That's a good question.
02:09Um...
02:09Um...
02:09You've trumped me.
02:14Maybe a little bit in the beginning, you know, in terms of, I was so young and I just signed the dotted line.
02:24But, um, I feel like as the years have gone by and I've learnt more and more about the industry, I've been, like, collecting, a bit like Thanos with the stones, I've been collecting parts of my soul back.
02:34Um, as I've gained more and more creative freedom, I've learnt more about the industry.
02:39Is it the end of Simon Cowell?
02:41Oh.
02:43I think it's the end of that kind of, um, TV show or music label.
02:49I think it's the end of that era.
02:51But I don't know if Simon Cowell specifically is ended.
02:56You got Simon Cowell?
02:57Have I met him?
02:58Yeah, I've been round his house for a roast.
03:01A roast?
03:01Yeah.
03:03How is it?
03:04Simon Cowell's house?
03:05A lot of monochrome.
03:07Yeah.
03:07Ah.
03:08Next up with a question is Luca.
03:10Greetings, Jade.
03:11Greetings.
03:12The name is Luca.
03:13Luca.
03:14And, um...
03:15You know what?
03:17I'm just going to say it.
03:18This is really important, you know?
03:20Okay.
03:21The autistic mind is telling me Luca asked this question.
03:23Just be nice about it.
03:25So, you know you're a part Egyptian?
03:27Yeah.
03:28Can you tell me, were the pyramids created by aliens?
03:31I don't know if I'm qualified.
03:38I mean, something spectacular made them because if you watch...
03:41If you watch those...
03:44If you watch those documentaries, we can't actually explain it, right?
03:49And because they're dotted all over the world, not just Egypt.
03:51You know, you've got them in, is it Mexico?
03:53Mexico.
03:54Yeah.
03:54Yeah.
03:55This sort of pyramid shape.
03:56Like, what does it mean?
03:58I really appreciate that.
03:59Thank you, Luca.
04:00Joseph?
04:01Hello.
04:02Hello, hello.
04:03Uh, personal question.
04:05Um, how is, um, your relationship between you and your mum?
04:10Oh, um, well, I adore my mum.
04:13Mum really looked like Diana Ross when I was little.
04:16Really?
04:16She had the big, sort of, bushy, long hair and, you know, the big do-eyes.
04:21I love Diana Ross.
04:22When she would, sort of, go off to do the bingo with her friends, she'd be like,
04:26I'm off to do a gig.
04:27So I thought my mum was Diana Ross.
04:30Um, yeah.
04:32Yeah, we've definitely got closer as the years have gone on.
04:35I think, as a teenager, because we never discussed things that I didn't realise I needed to talk about,
04:42like race, um, I think it actually affected me quite a bit.
04:46I was quite scared to promote or, um, speak out about my heritage.
04:53And, honestly, that's some, that's something that I still carry with me now.
04:57I'm quite ashamed of that.
05:00Right.
05:01Yeah, I see.
05:01Which I think, once we finally started talking about my mum's experiences,
05:06I feel like we became closer than ever.
05:09It was the missing link of the thing we'd not, like, connected over.
05:11Yeah.
05:12Do you know what I mean?
05:12We've always been close, but I think that experience particularly drew us even closer.
05:19Wow.
05:19I'm genuinely happy for you.
05:22Takara?
05:26Hi.
05:27Hi.
05:30Um.
05:30I would like to, um...
05:43Yeah.
05:47...duet with you on one of your songs.
05:49Oh, my gosh.
05:51If I sang Black Magic, would you do it with me?
05:54Yes, of course.
05:55I'd love to.
05:56Oh, my gosh.
05:58Has anyone got the music ready?
05:59I think we're going a cappella.
06:01Yeah, all right.
06:02One, two.
06:03Oh, my gosh.
06:03Oh, yeah.
06:04OK.
06:06Take a step of a secret potion.
06:08I'll make you fall in love.
06:10With a step that can't be broken.
06:12One time should be in love.
06:14Don't give me one to me.
06:16I love the rest of the tree.
06:17It's all about magic.
06:19It's all about magic.
06:21Take a step of a secret potion.
06:24One step that you'll be mine.
06:26With a step that can't be broken.
06:27And if you want my life, will you belong to me?
06:31I love the recipe.
06:33It's called Black Magic.
06:35It's called Black Magic.
06:37Yeah.
06:37Yeah.
06:38Yeah.
06:38Yeah.
06:39Yeah.
06:39Yeah.
06:39Yeah.
06:39Yeah.
06:39Yeah.
06:40Yeah.
06:40Yeah.
06:40Yeah.
06:41Yeah.
06:41Yeah.
06:42Yeah.
06:42Yeah.
06:43Yeah.
06:43Yeah.
06:44Yeah.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Thank you, Dakara.
06:46That was really special.
06:47Oh, my God.
06:49Thank you so much.
06:50Oh, that was great.
06:51That was great.
06:52That was good.
06:53And Dakara's, like, the coolest name.
06:55You're welcome.
06:56You're welcome.
06:56Oh, my God.
06:57Oh, my gosh.
07:01Next question is from Essen.
07:04Like myself, you come from a Muslim Catholic background.
07:09What was that like for you growing up?
07:11It was quite confusing, actually, because I would go to Muslim school, and then I would
07:18go to church.
07:19Yeah.
07:20So I think from a young age, I was kind of like, well, which one is it, guys?
07:24Exactly.
07:26My granddad, Muhammad, he was so proud to be Muslim, and he was the most beautiful soul.
07:32So I really wanted to make him proud.
07:35When he passed away, I was 13, and it's a shame because I feel like that part of my
07:40heritage and culture sort of went with him.
07:43I was a similar age when one of my grandfathers passed away.
07:47I think what was also really hard is the fact that I couldn't tell him about my true identity
07:52being from the trans community.
07:54He would never have accepted that, being he was Turkish Muslim.
07:58Yeah.
07:59I find it so, so hard.
08:00That's really difficult.
08:01If there is a Muslim background there, there's obvious conflicts there with...
08:06Of course.
08:07Yeah.
08:08I mean, like, with my granddad, Muhammad, I don't know if he would have been happy with
08:11my lifestyle choices or...
08:14But I think it's okay to love that person, and now they're gone, it's okay to accept that
08:20that's who they were, and...
08:22Exactly.
08:23That doesn't mean they didn't love you any less.
08:26And, in my opinion, if there is something bigger than us, and we're taught that they
08:32love us, surely you can be whoever you want to be, and you're loved either way, right?
08:36Exactly.
08:37Yeah.
08:38What was your worst ever date you've been on?
08:52Yeah.
08:53Oh!
08:54Oh, gosh.
08:56Erm...
08:57I have been catfished before.
08:59Oh, no.
09:00Do you know what that means?
09:01Catfished.
09:02So, being catfished is when they don't look like the picture.
09:05OK.
09:06Erm, so, yeah, I met up with a guy at a bar, and I didn't know it was him, because
09:10he looked so different.
09:13He was asking a lot of sort of intrusive questions, almost like a journalist.
09:17Erm, so I got the ick quite quickly there.
09:20Ali, would you like to ask your question now?
09:23OK.
09:24About your boyfriend, Jordan Stephens...
09:26Yes.
09:27..what was your date night like for you and him?
09:31Oh, wow.
09:32Oh, OK.
09:33Erm, so we met in lockdown.
09:35Zoom dates.
09:36We have to stay isolated, really.
09:37Yes.
09:38And we did three Zoom dates, and because we were all bored of them at that point,
09:42for our first date, we put suits on, and we did it like a business interview,
09:46and we asked each other...
09:47LAUGHTER
09:49We asked each other sort of very serious questions, like, I think one of my questions was,
09:57do you clap when the plane lands, because that's a big ick for me.
10:00LAUGHTER
10:01I did that a long time ago, clapping when the plane lands.
10:03Yeah, that's not for me, so...
10:04No.
10:05Do you know what?
10:06There is something I would give advice about relationships, like share the interests,
10:10ask what's your favourite food or activities, and then when you're ready on a date,
10:15you could see what it's like and how it feels to experience the food you like
10:22and which ones you don't like.
10:23Yeah.
10:24That's great advice.
10:25Ah.
10:26Well, thank you for your time.
10:27Thank you so much.
10:28I appreciate your time.
10:29I loved your questions.
10:30I would say that too, and the advice I made as well.
10:33Yeah.
10:35OK, Sophie, you're up.
10:36Hi, Jade.
10:37Hello.
10:38A fun fact about me.
10:39Yes?
10:40I did music in college.
10:41Did you?
10:42Yeah.
10:43So, I heard you do GCSE music.
10:44Yes.
10:45And I heard you stole a song.
10:47Which song was it?
10:48Ooh!
10:49Ooh!
10:50Ooh!
10:51Ooh!
10:52What?
10:53Am I allowed to say it?
10:54Would I get in trouble by the GCSE board?
10:56No.
10:57So, when I did music, one of the, like, course of it things was to write a song.
11:02I panicked and it was a last minute thing.
11:04So, I took the chorus out of a song from Dreamgirls, the musical.
11:08Oh!
11:09Yay!
11:10And I pretended it was my song.
11:11I know that's bad.
11:12Well, in Hollywood, they do it all the time.
11:14That's what it is.
11:15Right?
11:16It's a song that goes like, move, move, move, right out of my life.
11:18But did GCSE board ever find out?
11:20Well, they will now.
11:22Uh-oh!
11:24But yeah, that is pretty bad.
11:27We've got a question from Elijah up next.
11:28Hiya.
11:29Can you give an example of a question that an interviewer would ask a female celebrity that
11:34they wouldn't ask a male celebrity?
11:35Oh.
11:36The thing that, if I'm being, I'm going to be very honest now about this, the thing that
11:41annoys me the most that I get asked a lot is if I'm going to have children, do I want
11:45to be pregnant next?
11:46Oh.
11:47Am I pregnant?
11:48But I find it really weird when people ask that because they don't know what my circumstances
11:54are, you know?
11:55It's also not their business.
11:56You don't know if someone can't have children or just doesn't want to or they're not ready
12:01yet.
12:02I think it's a really invasive question.
12:03Yeah.
12:04And I really resent being asked it.
12:06And because of that as well, it's meant that I've put on like maybe a little bit of weight
12:12since I've become a solo artist.
12:14And because of that, people speculate a lot like, oh, is she pregnant?
12:18I'm like, guys, I just had a bit of garlic bread.
12:20I'm bloated.
12:21Do you know what I mean?
12:22But it's like, I can't.
12:23I feel like I have to always be conscious now of like, oh God, make sure I'm not bloated
12:26because they're going to start saying that I'm pregnant again.
12:29Yeah.
12:30Did that answer your question?
12:31Yeah, thank you.
12:32Next up, we've got Nicola who's going to ask you a question.
12:35Hi, Jade.
12:36How are you?
12:37Good, thank you.
12:38I am a big fan of Little Mix.
12:42Who's your dentist?
12:45Who's my dentist?
12:47Yeah.
12:48Well, I've got a local one, but I do go to see this guy.
12:51I think on his Instagram, he's called the Tooth Fairy.
12:54Tooth Fairy?
12:55Yeah.
12:56I mean, it makes sense.
12:58How long you be the dentist?
13:00How long?
13:01Oh, gosh.
13:02I'd probably do an appointment, to be honest.
13:04Next up, we've got Julis.
13:07You were quite close with Liam Payne.
13:11And there's a lot of difficult stories out there and a lot of negativity surrounding him.
13:18I just wondered if you'd like to share a positive memory that you guys have and just talk about what he was like as a person.
13:26He was the first friend I made in the industry.
13:32We both auditioned for X Factor when we were very young.
13:35It was just so lovely.
13:36He was obviously very talented.
13:38He really wanted to make his family proud, which he did.
13:43And just, I remember everyone who was on the show at the time being like, oh, this person's a star.
13:50You know?
13:51You could tell.
13:52He literally had the X Factor.
13:54So, he was destined to be a musician and a singer.
14:01So, yeah.
14:03I'm glad you asked that.
14:05OK, Jenny, you're up next.
14:07Hiya.
14:09Hi.
14:10Hi.
14:11Hi.
14:12Do you get trapped wind?
14:15Do you get trapped wind?
14:17Oh!
14:18I do get trapped wind.
14:22And it's really painful, actually.
14:24Has anyone had it before?
14:25Yeah, I had it before.
14:26It's really painful.
14:27I've been told numerous times that if you actually get on all fours, and it does work, you know.
14:32What, on the floor?
14:33Yeah, if you get literally on all fours like a dog.
14:36OK.
14:37So, for whatever reason, it will pass through.
14:41OK.
14:42Paris?
14:44We heard you are very good at dancing.
14:47Could you teach us some dance moves?
14:50Yeah.
14:51Are you going to dance with me?
14:52Yeah.
14:53I'm very good at dancing.
14:54Yeah.
14:55You know, everyone's got a bit of, you know, a rhythm in them.
14:58For It Girl, maybe I can show you a bit of that one, because that's the one that's fresh in my head.
15:02I started like this.
15:03It would go, like a giant...
15:04Clop.
15:05Yeah.
15:06And it would go, scat, like it was biting, cat.
15:09Clop.
15:10Yeah.
15:11And then I'd go, scat.
15:12What would you call this?
15:13You're good at crying.
15:14Latin education.
15:15Latin education.
15:16Yeah.
15:17Like this.
15:18I'd say verbal.
15:19Yeah.
15:20Then I'd walk forward for two.
15:21One, two.
15:22And then...
15:23And then I'd clutch my boobs.
15:24Oh!
15:25OK.
15:26And then I'd go, cat, cat.
15:27So I'll do it again with you.
15:28Yeah.
15:29Five, six, seven, eight.
15:31Scat.
15:32I am the ick girl.
15:34Walk.
15:35Walk.
15:36Walk.
15:37I am the shit girl.
15:44Maybe that was the wrong song, Charles.
15:46Thank you, Paris.
15:48Cameron.
15:49So this question's quite personal, so if you don't feel comfortable answering, I understand.
15:53OK.
15:55I know when you were younger you suffered with an eating disorder.
15:58When did you realise you actually had a problem?
16:01Do you know, I don't think I realised for a long time, because it became so normal for me.
16:11And I hid it quite well.
16:14My school counsellor sort of said to me, I think you've got a problem, you know, an issue here.
16:21And that's when my family sort of intervened.
16:25I don't know.
16:26I've been asked about this before and I think people always assume, especially for young girls,
16:30that it's about how you look or things like that.
16:32And sometimes it's actually just about control.
16:34And at that point in my life, I had a lot of things going on that I couldn't control,
16:39whether that was bullying or my granddad passing away, things like that.
16:43So your choice to kind of grasp onto the one thing you could control?
16:45I think so, yeah.
16:47I had a sort of intervention where all my family sat with me and some doctors
16:51and kind of gave me some harsh truths.
16:54And I think once I realised that it wasn't just affecting me, it was affecting the people I loved around me,
17:02that's when I thought, oh, I really need to change this, you know.
17:07I'd never seen particularly my sort of brother and my dad be so upset before.
17:12So, yeah, that made me want to change.
17:19I'll give you a hug.
17:20Oh, thank you.
17:22That's so sweet.
17:26So, yeah, thank you for that.
17:31That's some weird conversations.
17:33Yeah.
17:35But honestly, I'm not just saying this because I'm here.
17:37This is my favourite interview that I've ever done.
17:41Yay!
17:42And on that note, we're going to set up a performance.
17:45Oh, OK.
17:48Would you like to work with you on a song?
17:50Yeah.
17:51If you need rapping and vocals.
17:53Great.
17:54Yeah.
17:55Sounds sick.
17:56It's an actual band.
17:58I'm coming out.
18:07I love this song, honestly.
18:08I'm coming out.
18:13I'm coming out.
18:16I'm coming out.
18:19I'm coming.
18:24Oh!
18:25Wow, it's good, huh?
18:32I'm coming down, I want the world to come out, about to let it show.
18:40I'm coming down, I want the world to come out, about to let it show.
18:47So sick.
18:48There's a new me coming out, and I just have to live, and I wanna give.
18:54I'm completely positive, I think this time around, I am gonna do it, like you never knew it.
19:02Oh, I'll make it through.
19:05So the time has come for me to break out of the shell.
19:09I have to show that I'm coming down, I'm coming down.
19:15I want the world to come out, about to let it show.
19:20I'm coming down, I want the world to come out, about to let it show.
19:28I'm coming down, I want the world to come out, about to let it show.
19:31Oh, the coffee, and all my veggies, that's so much more to me.
19:37Somehow I'll have to make them
19:40Just understand
19:42I got it from a hat
19:44Know how I do
19:46I'm spreading love
19:48There's no need to be
19:50And I just feel so good
19:52Every time I hear it
19:55I'm falling out
19:56I want the world to know
19:59That's a life to show
20:01I'm falling out
20:04I want the world to know
20:07That's a life to show
20:09I'm falling out
20:35I want the world to know
