00:01Just take it easy. Stay sat down.
00:04I think you'll be all right.
00:06I'm so nervous.
00:09Carolineica's running a bit late.
00:11He is running quite late.
00:13Maybe he'd just woken up in bed.
00:23Hello. Hi. Hi. Hello, everyone. Hi.
00:26How am I going up here?
00:29Oh, hi, Dan.
00:31You were the person that helped to close
00:33one of the UK's longest running table
00:35and sat like Channel's father in 2010.
00:37I made some very shit shows.
00:39Hi. Hi. Hi.
00:41Where am I going?
00:43Your hair looks stunning.
00:44Oh, thank you so much. That's very sweet.
00:46I'm a little bit nervous, actually.
00:48I heard that you can't fuck.
00:50No, I can't.
00:51I can't either.
00:52I farm a lot.
00:54You're on Pointless Celebrities with your son
00:57and you're on Who Wants to Be Millionaire
00:59when Chris Tarrant was doing it with Austin Healey.
01:01Yeah, a long time ago, yeah.
01:022008, it was.
01:04Austin Healey, I looked, was on Strictly that year as well.
01:07Ah, that's right, yeah.
01:09Did he win?
01:10No, Tom Chambers won that year.
01:12Oh, you know.
01:13I'm good with Strictly.
01:14I feel like you're trying to make me nervous here.
01:16I am.
01:17You're trying to unsettle me.
01:18Put it there, then.
01:19We've got your attention.
01:20Come on.
01:21Welcome.
01:22The Assembly.
01:29Right, we're going to get started now.
01:31Oh, I thought we'd started.
01:32No, not yet.
01:33Ben, would you like to introduce us?
01:35It's Frank Ignatius.
01:37I love it.
01:38Honour to be here.
01:39All right, here goes.
01:44Welcome to the Assembly, our collective of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled interviewers.
01:52We are very delighted to have you to join us today.
01:55Our rules are, no subjects are out of bounds.
01:58No question is off the table.
02:01And all might happen.
02:02And all might happen.
02:03And all might happen.
02:04And all might happen.
02:07Prepare for hard questions today.
02:10Whoa, okay.
02:11Please tell us who you are.
02:12I am Jade Thirlwall.
02:14My name's Danny Dyer.
02:15I'm Gary Lineker.
02:17My name is David.
02:18Oh, hello.
02:19Do you need more information than that?
02:21Or is that enough?
02:22That's a bit obvious.
02:23That's a bit obvious.
02:24Is that enough to get going with?
02:26And I think we're going to start off with Jules.
02:30What do you think you've lost, if anything, by giving up your anonymity?
02:34It's a huge question.
02:37Hmm.
02:38It's such a big thing to give up.
02:40And I've got to say, when you first become famous, it's really, you fucking love it.
02:44Hmm.
02:45It's this amazing feeling.
02:46It's great for the ego.
02:47But it's exhausting.
02:49So, you know, the idea of just being able to sit on my own somewhere and have a cup of coffee
02:54and not feel like people are staring at me or videoing me.
02:58This is the other thing.
02:59You even think that people are looking at you when they're not.
03:02I was on a plane once and I was, I'd been to Ibiza.
03:08Oh, no.
03:09So, I was a little bit...
03:10Oh, OK.
03:11Anyway, and I was sitting at the back and people were just walking past me to go to the toilet.
03:14I thought they were coming to meet me.
03:15I was getting up and going, hello.
03:16And they were like, sorry?
03:19I was like, oh, sorry.
03:20So, you start to go crazy.
03:21It starts to make you go a little bit like, OK.
03:23So, I would say, once you have fame, you can't turn it off.
03:27You walk outside your house and every fucker knows who you are.
03:29Yeah.
03:30And it's a weird feeling.
03:31So, it's a huge thing to give up.
03:34Yes.
03:35And what do you think of people like Andrew Tate who profit off targeting young men
03:41and profiting off their insecurities?
03:44Talks a lot of shit, doesn't he?
03:46Let's have it right.
03:48It goes back to masculinity, doesn't it?
03:50And the idea of what it means and what it represents
03:52and when does it become toxic.
03:54But we have to blame the media because they've created a space for him.
03:58I also hate social media.
04:00I think it's fucked society up.
04:02Right?
04:03It's breeding hatred, division.
04:05I just don't think it works.
04:07There's nothing social about it.
04:08Everyone's angry.
04:09And if we didn't have social media, there wouldn't be no Andrew Tate.
04:12You wouldn't be able to search him and look for him.
04:14He might be standing on a soapbox shouting shit, but no one would be listening.
04:18Now he's got a reach.
04:20So that's why Andrew Tate exists, unfortunately.
04:23It's down to social media.
04:25Fucking deep that was, wasn't it?
04:27Jesus Christ.
04:30Nargis?
04:31Why did you crush Paul Hollywood?
04:36Why did you have a crush on Paul Hollywood?
04:42That's a good question.
04:44I think it's the eyes, you know.
04:46He's got such piercing blue eyes, hasn't he?
04:48Yeah.
04:49Yeah.
04:50But actually in real life, it's giving White Walker.
04:53Have you seen Game of Thrones?
04:56They've got those like super blue icy eyes.
04:59It's your soul sort of thing.
05:00Yeah, and that's what Paul does when he comes over to judge you with your baking.
05:04He just looks at you really intensely and you're like, oh my gosh.
05:09But I don't think I could date someone that's like so judgmental about my cooking.
05:13That would get on my nerves, do you know what I mean?
05:15Yeah.
05:16Well, I just don't want to be told all the time that my cake's got a soggy bottom.
05:20Oh my God!
05:22I don't think I could.
05:25Oh my God, I just realised how that sounded.
05:28OK, thank you, Nargis.
05:30I love your jumper as well.
05:31Thank you, Angel.
05:32Aw, thank you.
05:34And now we're going to come to Ben.
05:36Ben.
05:37All right.
05:38Do I have the question for you today?
05:45So, um...
05:48Hang on.
05:49You performed on stage with Taylor Swift one time.
05:52Yeah.
05:53That must have been a very magical moment for you.
05:56Yeah.
05:57When we got the call from Taylor herself that she wanted us to join her on stage.
06:01Yeah.
06:02It was like, oh my gosh, like, it's the seal of approval, right?
06:06This is a big deal.
06:07And she picked us up in her private jet.
06:08That's pretty cool.
06:09Oh my God.
06:10That is so cool.
06:11Yeah.
06:12And I'll never forget it because I remember the hand towels had TS on them when I went to the toilet.
06:17And I was like, ooh!
06:20And she was very lovely, very supportive.
06:23We sang Black Magic.
06:24And I'm glad you reminded me of that, actually.
06:26Yeah.
06:27Because, yeah, in any form.
06:28Black Magic was danced on Strictly by Claudia Fragapani and AJ Pritchard in Halloween of 2016 on Strictly.
06:34Oh, yeah, I need to say that again because I think I've forgotten.
06:39But you'll have to show me.
06:40I think you're a Strictly fan, right?
06:42Yes, it started the year I was born and it started before I was born.
06:45Yeah.
06:46Ethan.
06:48Why didn't you boycott countries like Qatar when they hosted the World Cup for their human rights abuses?
06:56Um, I think it's very difficult to judge everybody when you consider the things that we've done in this country.
07:07Over the, you know, in our history.
07:09So, um, I think we made a statement, um, and all countries act in different ways, you know, and are responsible for awful things at some point.
07:20You know, we go there to do our job, to do the football.
07:23I get you.
07:24We're not there to promote the country.
07:25That's a fair answer and that's very diplomatic and I appreciate that.
07:28No, it's also true.
07:29Exactly.
07:30You do play Leicester?
07:31I'm from Leicester, yeah.
07:32You play football at Leicester?
07:33I did.
07:34I started at Leicester.
07:35So you're retired now?
07:36Well, I think I'm a bit old now.
07:37A bit old for the Premier League, Caroline.
07:38We're coming round to Jack now.
07:39Come on, Jack.
07:40Come on, Jack.
07:41OK.
07:42I heard that you had a little injury on rivals.
07:44I did.
07:45Can you perhaps talk us through, um, how you injured yourself in such a fiery scene?
07:48This was a bedroom scene, let's call it that, and we had a very brilliant intimacy coordinator
08:10who made sure that every movement, everyone was fine with everything, it was very positive,
08:15it was a very, uh, well-structured moment.
08:19Anything that could have been problematic was covered.
08:22Everyone felt safe.
08:23But what we didn't have was a stunt coordinator.
08:26And unfortunately, my leap onto the bed probably required one.
08:31Uh, and I hadn't really thought that through.
08:33And I managed to smash into my shin.
08:35Ooh!
08:36Yeah.
08:37So this wonderful, romantic, sexy scene was completely ruined by me writhing around on
08:44the floor for a second, going, ah!
08:47Patting the blood from my...
08:49Was you all right?
08:50I mean, eventually I was all right.
08:51Oh, OK.
08:52But really, we should have been concentrating on the scene, not my stupid shin injury.
08:57OK, next up with a question is Luca.
08:59Greetings, Jade.
09:00Greetings.
09:01The name is Luca.
09:02Luca.
09:03Now, I have an important question for you.
09:05Yes.
09:06Why do you love Greg's so much?
09:07Yeah!
09:08You look great!
09:09You look great!
09:10Like, not complaining.
09:11I go there every time I need to have a nice triple chocolate muffin with that sauce inside
09:15of it.
09:16Oh, good!
09:17My autistic mind tells me, Luca, you need a muffin.
09:18Eat it!
09:19I had a Greg's-themed birthday party.
09:20Really?
09:21Oh!
09:22Yeah, I really peaked with that one.
09:24My favourite pasty is the sausage, bean and cheese melt.
09:27Oh, yes!
09:28Great choice!
09:29Yeah.
09:30Stunning, honestly.
09:31If it's cold, it's not great.
09:32That's my mum's go-to.
09:33OK.
09:34You've got to wait for a fresh one out of the oven.
09:35That's the trick.
09:36Yeah, those are the best ones.
09:37Yeah.
09:38And the, are they called yum-yums?
09:39Yum-yums.
09:40Oh!
09:41That's my mum's go-to as well.
09:42Yeah, is it?
09:43Amazing.
09:44Yeah, there you go.
09:45I really appreciate that.
09:46Thank you, Luca.
09:47OK, now we're going to take a quick break from some of the questions.
09:51Our cast would like to know how you do your vocal warm-ups, and if you could show
09:56us how you do them.
09:57Oh, my gosh.
09:58OK.
09:59So, are you ready?
10:00Yeah.
10:01I'm ready.
10:02I do a lot of these, like, siren noises, like, mmm-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y.
10:08Holy mackerel, aren't they?
10:10WHISTLE BLOWS
10:14That was so loud. You've got great projection.
10:17LAUGHTER
10:19We do a lot of this as well, like...
10:27Yeah, you get quite a lot of spit going there,
10:29so don't be too near someone when you're doing that one.
10:32And what else do we do? We go like...
10:34La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
10:37Let me climb. La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
10:41How much wood would a woodchuck chuck?
10:43If the woodchuck could chuck wood.
10:46Banger.
10:47LAUGHTER
10:56Why do you keep swearing?
10:58I was brought up by very strong women that swore.
11:01But not aggressive.
11:03So you don't swear then?
11:04No, I don't swear.
11:05Yeah, no, I make you what?
11:07You don't like it?
11:08When you're on TV, yeah?
11:10Sorry, when you're on TV, you're like, I swear on TV.
11:13People do swear, it's okay.
11:14Yeah, I know, okay, but...
11:15It doesn't make you thick.
11:16Yeah.
11:17I think it's about intent.
11:18All right.
11:19If you're going to be violent and you'll be horrible about it, then yeah.
11:20Yeah, okay.
11:21Sometimes you can go, come, fucking come and give me a cuddle.
11:23You say it like that.
11:24Yeah.
11:24Oh, okay, give me a cuddle.
11:25Fucking come here.
11:26Yeah, I fucking love you.
11:27I fucking love you.
11:28Yeah.
11:29You know what I mean?
11:29Yeah, intent.
11:30But also, look, because I'm 47, I am who I am.
11:34I'm 47, yeah.
11:35You look very young.
11:36You're very young.
11:37You're very young.
11:38You're very good looking as well.
11:40Thank you very much.
11:41What is your favourite part of playing Mick Carter in EastEnders?
11:46I think one of my first storylines was when my son came out to me as gay.
11:52Oh.
11:53It was done in such a beautiful way, because whatever I represented at the time, being an alpha male or whatever,
11:58they were very clever in the sense of, usually when someone comes out as being gay in a soap,
12:02they go crazy and they kill someone, like Ben Mitchell did it, and then he killed Heather.
12:06Yeah.
12:07Because he was so frightened of saying I'm gay, right?
12:10When actually, the truth is this, he said, I'm gay, and I went, come here, I love you.
12:15And that was it.
12:17So I had many, many letters, many messages from men that came out the next day.
12:20So that was important to me, that the platform you can reach if you do it right,
12:24is that you can reach people and sort of change their lives.
12:27You know what I mean?
12:27It doesn't happen all the time.
12:28I'll say soap operas are soap operas for a reason, and, you know, a lot of the storylines you get are quite shit.
12:34But now and again, they can reach an audience that's important.
12:37So, yeah, that was probably my favourite.
12:41OK.
12:42Two less.
12:44So a question I have for you is, being in the public eye, obviously people can get really invested in your life.
12:53How do you deal with it when there are negative comments online?
12:57There's always a bunch of people who are sitting in their bedrooms bashing out nonsense on a keyboard.
13:03Just imagine them sitting there in their pants, miserable, unhappy people, just being mean because they've got nothing better to do,
13:17and disregard them entirely.
13:20That would be what I would say.
13:21I mean, I just don't go there, really.
13:25OK, we're going to have a question from Joseph over here next.
13:27So, you had a really, really lovely moth suit at the LGBTQ Awards around this year.
13:38Yeah.
13:39Did you at some point consider that you might have worn the suit to perhaps conquer your fear of moths?
13:47It's interesting because I used to find moths very scary.
13:51Really?
13:51They used to really freak me out.
13:53Something about the way they move.
13:55Something about the way that if you do smack them with a newspaper, and I'm not encouraging that,
13:59they sort of crumble to dust, don't they, moths?
14:01Dust?
14:02Yeah, they...
14:02Moths, they just kind of evaporate into puffs of moth dust.
14:07Hmm.
14:07I hadn't made the connection, but maybe it did.
14:11Because I'm not scared of moths in the way that I once was.
14:13They used to freak me out.
14:14And now I'm OK with them, I think.
14:17OK.
14:17They're just sort of like slightly spooky butterflies, aren't they?
14:20They're like goth butterflies or something?
14:22Yes, goth butterflies, that's a better way of putting it, yeah.
14:24Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:26Charlotte, whenever you're ready.
14:29Hi, Jade.
14:30Hi.
14:30This is technically a sensitive and hard question to answer, so if you feel pressured, please don't answer it.
14:39OK, thank you.
14:40If you don't want to.
14:41Sadly, I read your horrific case of being bullied at school.
14:52I personally understand this because I have been through the same thing.
14:58It was life-changing for me.
15:00I have never gotten over it.
15:03If you had the chance to speak to your bullies, what would you say?
15:11Oh, wow.
15:11Wow.
15:12That is a deep question.
15:14Yes.
15:14Yes.
15:15Well, firstly, I'm sorry you had to experience bullying.
15:18It's awful for anyone that has to experience that.
15:22I do think it shaped me into who I am today a little bit, being an anxious person or doubting myself or feeling insecure.
15:32But it also has, I've kind of been able to turn that around and become stronger from it.
15:37One moment for me that was such a full circle moment was when I finally made it in the industry and did my first show.
15:44So, as I walked out, my school bully was sat in the audience asking for an autograph.
15:51And I'll never forget that moment.
15:53The audacity.
15:54Yeah.
15:55I think I did, actually.
15:59I think because I then realised that, like, it was never to do with me.
16:04Do you know what I mean?
16:05I don't know about you, but I'm sure you've got friends around you that have supported you, hopefully.
16:10Um, that's a difficult question because they were all my bullies.
16:18Oh.
16:19I didn't have a single friend at that school.
16:22Oh, bless you.
16:24I think sometimes the people that are bullied are the ones that are shining quite bright and people don't like that and they want to sort of bring them down or dull it.
16:31Yeah.
16:33I also experienced quite a lot of bullying.
16:36I grew up in a mainstream environment.
16:38I had a bully there.
16:40I'm not going to say his name, though.
16:42But let's just say he gave me a very, very hard time.
16:47Oh.
16:48He said to me that I will not make my next birthday.
16:51And if I did, he'd get someone to deal with me or something like that.
16:56Oh, my gosh.
16:56That's awful.
16:58Like, I just wanted to get out of there.
16:59I wanted to get away from this guy.
17:01Mm-hmm.
17:01And he got expelled on my birthday as well.
17:05Oh.
17:05Birthday present.
17:06I mean, like, look at where I am today.
17:09This is it.
17:10You did make it.
17:11Look, we're all here and we're all thriving.
17:13And I'm more than happy after this to chat more.
17:16We can talk more about our experiences.
17:18Definitely.
17:19I'll be up for that.
17:20Yeah, because I know it's hard to speak about, especially in front of a lot of people.
17:23It is.
17:23It is.
17:25Nadis?
17:29You like spicy food?
17:30I do like spicy food.
17:32I love it.
17:32What about Nando's?
17:33I'm kind of bored with Nando's.
17:36I've got you a present.
17:37Oh, blimey.
17:38What have we got?
17:39It's a hat.
17:41With Gary on it.
17:42Yeah, you name.
17:44Oh, you think?
17:44Oh, you think?
17:45Oh, you think?
17:46Oh, you think?
17:47Oh, you think?
17:48What are you saying, Nando?
17:49It fits perfectly.
17:50Yep.
17:50And you've left extra room for my ears.
17:58And now we have some music that we think you're really going to enjoy.
18:00Wow.
18:09My heart was broken.
18:14My heart was broken.
18:18Sorrow, sorrow, sorrow, sorrow.
18:25My heart was broken.
18:29My heart was broken.
18:33He saw it.
18:35He claimed it.
18:37He touched it.
18:38He saved it.
18:41Stay strong.
18:42You're such an amazing person, okay?
18:44I'm sorry.
18:45And you have to believe that, right?
18:47It took me a long time.
