Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (Aug 20) with making a statement on the social media platform TikTok late last month that allegedly caused public alarm.

The Bersatu Youth chief pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Amira Abd Aziz.

00:38officers at the Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Menara KPJ, Kuala Lumpur. Hilman
00:45was charged under Section 505B of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a
00:52fine or both upon conviction. During proceedings, Kuala Lumpur Prosecution Director Datuk Badyushaman
00:59Ahmad proposed bail at RM10,000 with one surety. However, lawyer Muhammad Rafiq Rashid Ali, representing
01:07Hilman, appealed for lower bail, arguing that his client had fully cooperated with the police
01:13throughout the investigation. He added that his client is a state assemblyman known to the people
01:19of Selangor and Malaysia, so there is no reason for him to abscond. After hearing submissions
01:25from both sides, Magistrate Amira set bail at RM4,000 with one surety. At a press conference,
01:32Hilman, a former political secretary to Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, said he will continue to speak
01:37up to uphold the cause of justice.
01:39The court fixed the case for further mention on October 9.
