Caribbean Airlines' staff unions are seeking urgent clarification from the Prime Minister, following her stark warning last Monday that the airline is operating at a loss on every route and has two years to turn around its finances. More in this report.

00:00Caribbean Airlines workers say they are anxious about their future
00:03after Prime Minister Kamala Pissar and Bissassar bluntly stated last week
00:07that not one single route of Caribbean Airlines is bringing a profit.
00:12The Prime Minister issued a stern ultimatum.
00:16To date, Caribbean Airlines has not submitted an audited financial statement for the last nine years.
00:25Do you know not one single Caribbean Airlines route is profitable?
00:31Not one route is profitable.
00:35Yet planes filling up every day going and coming.
00:37Not one single route of Caribbean Airlines is bringing a profit.
00:41But we are spending millions of dollars there.
00:45I am giving the management of Caribbean Airlines two years max.
00:52They have to sort out the mess.
00:54In response, the Airline Communication and Allied Workers Union,
00:58representing flight attendants and general staff,
01:01together with the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association,
01:06issued a joint statement confirming that they have written to the Prime Minister.
01:11The union say they have requested an urgent meeting to discuss her comments,
01:15which they describe as deeply concerning for Cal's employees.
01:19According to the release, both organizations intend to work jointly to seek clarity on the government's position,
01:27safeguard workers' rights and job security,
01:30and ensure that the national interest is protected.
01:34The Prime Minister's office has acknowledged the receipt of their correspondence
01:37and promised to bring the matter to her attention.
01:41The unions are urging Cal staff to remain calm, vigilant,
01:45and united as they await further updates.
01:49This latest development once again places the financial stability of the national airline into the spotlight,
01:55with workers now pressing for answers directly from the Prime Minister.
