00:00Scott, this is a classy group of fillies and mares, and in particular, one very, very classy filly in here.
00:06She feels pretty that was not supposed to be running in this race, but was kind of a late addition.
00:10So on paper, maybe it won't be the best betting race if she wins the race, but she's a very talented filly,
00:17and she'll face some others in this grade one, the EP Taylor.
00:21We start things out with the number one, Venetia.
00:23I think she's kind of an underhorse, Scott.
00:26I'm actually a little bit interested to see her get a chance to run a little bit longer and to go a mile and a quarter
00:31because she does seem like she does some of her best running very late in a race.
00:35And in the particular race we're watching, she didn't win, and her rival, Ready for Sheryl, did.
00:41But you'll notice that Venetia was actually kind of getting to the rival late, and I thought galloped out pretty well in here.
00:47So she does like to settle for minor awards, but if you took She Feels Pretty out of this race,
00:53both of these horses, Venetia and Ready for Sheryl, would become much bigger contenders.
00:58The rest of the field is kind of evenly matched, I think, once you get beyond, she feels pretty.
01:03Yeah, she was beaten by Ready for Sheryl last time, but had a little bit of a better trip.
01:06So I don't think the 12-to-1 versus 7-to-2 morning line price is very fair.
01:12That said, this is a mare that was supposed to be good a long time ago and really has not come into hand.
01:18And new trainer, the added ground maybe works, but Chad Brown kind of knows what he's doing and never tried it.
01:24We move to Literate.
01:26This is a grade 3 winner on the Synthetic.
01:28She's traded decisions with Caitlyn, her greatness, in the last couple.
01:32I wonder if she's quite as good on grass.
01:35It seems like her connections just think she's better on the Synthetic because that's where she's run most of her races.
01:39But I want to give her credit for her last start because Caitlyn, her greatness, got a pretty good trip.
01:45And Literate just ran right by her and was better there.
01:48But again, that was on a different surface.
01:50Yeah, she just finishes so much better over the all-weather than the turf.
01:55Again, you understand why connections that have the horse up there move to the turf in situations like this.
02:02But I'd be surprised if we see her best effort.
02:04And again, the morning line kind of tells that.
02:06Diamond Rain goes out for trainer Charles Appleby, who a couple years ago, Scott, was winning so many graded stakes races like this.
02:15He's quieted down over the last year or so.
02:17It didn't have as many running as he did before.
02:20But this filly fits pretty well in here.
02:22She's lightly raced.
02:24She has two poor performances and four wins in her six races.
02:28And the two poor races come followed by layoffs.
02:31So you could probably make excuses for the poor races there.
02:33I watched her replay over at Newcastle.
02:36She's not that fast early on.
02:38She came from the back of the pack.
02:39But she quickly kind of swooped the field when they tipped her to the outside.
02:43So I think she has some talent.
02:45Charles Appleby, last five years, he's 7 for 12 at Woodbine, kind of to your point, Gino.
02:50But in 2024, he bought three over.
02:52They were all short prices, and he went 0 for 3.
02:55This is a filly that obviously can get the distance and has the right rider coming in.
02:59She's a wild card, so you want to make sure you get the right price.
03:02She feels pretty, is the next one up.
03:04She is a multiple grade one winner.
03:06She lost her most recent race.
03:08She finished second.
03:09But she actually earned a best career speed figure based on the buyers that the daily racing form uses.
03:16So it wasn't a poor performance even in defeat, Scott.
03:19And if you look at the last couple races, she's had to deal with different turf courses, different styles of turf courses because there was some bad weather over at Saratoga.
03:28So those weren't the normal, firm turf courses she was running on.
03:33She's actually been a grade one winner at the highest level at the age of two, at the age of three, and at the age of four.
03:40And one of those wins was right here over this turf course at Woodbine.
03:44As a gambler, we want to try to poke holes in horses like this.
03:47I just had a hard time doing it.
03:48Yeah, very well spotted by Cherie DeVoe, who continues to manage this Philly very well.
03:53Seven for 11.
03:54I thought the blinkers were not a great sign in the QE2 Cup.
03:58That was a monster effort, and she's really done very little wrong since.
04:01She looks like the clear one to beat, and I'm not telling you much.
04:04Caitlin, her greatness to the number five, actually won the Kings Plate last year.
04:08This is a Philly who beat the boys, Scott.
04:11She looks like one of the quicker horses early in this race.
04:14You can see the projector has her out front.
04:17I could see jockey Flavian Pratt trying to maybe get aggressive early on with her,
04:21and that's something that he does very well.
04:23Yeah, this is her best chance to win, and I think she's interesting.
04:26Not a ton of speed.
04:27She's better over the all-weather throughout her career,
04:29but she does have a win in a third in three starts over the turf.
04:33I like Pratt being aboard.
04:34You know he's going to be prepared.
04:36Hurricane Claire had a big wake-up effort last time out.
04:38It was a career-best effort, and I think she will be forwardly placed in here
04:42probably one of the early speeds.
04:44Yeah, she's up against it from a class perspective.
04:47She'll try to make the lead.
04:48Maybe she's not fast enough at her class level,
04:51but I understand why they're giving her a shot.
04:53Three straight really good races from Ready for Shrull,
04:56capped off by a win in the Grade 2 Canadian.
04:59Just seems like a four-year-old Philly who's moving in the right direction,
05:02and once you get beyond, she feels pretty.
05:04This one's right at the top of the list of contenders.
05:06She is.
05:07I think she's going to get bet like it.
05:08I think she kind of fits better in that second tier with a couple of other Phillies,
05:12so I'm going to try to beat her.
05:13I think she got the right trip last time out to win the Canadian.
