We've received requests for a tutorial on tuning your coconut thumb piano, so in this video, I provide a clear step-by-step guide. If you're new to the kalimba, tuning is the essential first skill to master before playing songs. While there are many tuning methods, this is how I personally tune mine, setting the notes from left to right as G, A, B, D, F, C, E.

00:00hey everyone hope you're having a wonderful day as you may know I've been making tutorial videos
00:14on how to play our coconut thumb piano and I had a comment from someone asking me how to tune their
00:21coconut thumb piano kalimba and so today I'm going to show you how to do exactly that and
00:27there is more than one way to do this but this is how I do it so straight up I use this app on my
00:32phone it's called Tuna Pitched it's on the Samsung Play Store and it's just a tuner so when you talk
00:40or make any sound it figures out what note it is that you're playing and it gives you a guide to
00:46get you to the right notes this is the coconut thumb piano that I'm using they do obviously vary a lot
00:51and there's many different types you can get and it's not in tune right now but I will be tuning
00:56it and I'll be showing you how to do it you might want to take a little note I tune this one to G
00:59this next one to A then B then D then F C and then the last one I tune to E
01:13so the first one needs to be tuned to G so let's do that now
01:17so that is actually showing up as G already so move on to the next one which is A
01:28so that's coming up as D so what we want to do is you can do this with a hammer but I just like to
01:36wiggle it like that side to side so now that says G so that needs to go one more note
01:47maybe about there let's try that
01:51so it's A sharp so it needs to come back a little bit more
01:57so that's A next we want to go to B which is this one
02:11that's coming up as A so we're going to move that back a little bit
02:16right it's saying C now so we're going to come back a little bit more
02:21A sharp a little bit back
02:27so that's A and B then this one needs to be D
02:33that's saying C so we need to move it to D a little bit more
02:48C sharp
02:51tiny bit more
02:52and there we go it's at D
02:57and the next note is F
02:59so let's wiggle that
03:06right we're at C sharp
03:10let's go a bit more
03:12that's E
03:14go back a tiny bit more
03:16and we're at F
03:19now we're on to this one which is meant to be C
03:22and it's actually on C
03:27but it's a tiny bit out so we're just going to move it back a little bit
03:30there you go that sounds better
03:33now the last one is meant to be E
03:36so we're just going to move that
03:37so that's that F sharp
03:41so what we can actually do is bring this out a little bit more
03:43that's saying F
03:48bring it out a little bit more
03:49D sharp
03:53too much
03:54F again
03:57it's a bit fiddly
04:00but once it's in tune
04:01it doesn't really go out of tune unless you knock it quite a lot
04:05there we go
04:14and so this is now in tune
04:15and each note is its own clear note
04:18so
04:19there we go it's in tune
04:30so I'll just bring this closer so you can see
04:32so we've got G
04:33then we've got A
04:36B
04:38D
04:41F
04:43F
04:43C
04:45and E
04:47there we go all good
04:50so there you go Tarek
