After five years of selling musical instruments, we’re excited to show you how to play the monkey drum—an easy instrument to start with but tricky to master. You hold the stick in your palm and twist your hands, moving one forward and the other back in alternation. To play it well, focus on rhythm by counting “1, 2, 3, 4” out loud, aiming to hit the paddle in sync with each beat.
00:00Hello and welcome to Calf Culture. In today's video I'm going to show you how
00:04to play the monkey drum. Don't worry it's so easy a monkey could do it. So here I've
00:09got a monkey drum from South America and what you do to play is you simply put
00:13the stick in between both of your hands right on your palms and the way that it
00:18works is your left hand moves forward as your right hand moves back and then you
00:23alternate this pattern backwards and forwards like this. You can play it soft
00:32or you can play it hard like this. But making a sound from the instrument is the
00:38easy bit. The hard bit is actually playing in rhythm and the best way to do
00:42that is by counting to yourself one two three four one two three four and you
00:51want to try and make sure that it hits the monkey drum on each beat. So let's
00:57try this now. One two three four. One two three four. One two three four. We can go faster. One two three four.
01:12Every monkey drum sounds completely different. So this one's from South
01:16America but here I've got one from Kenya Africa. Let's see how this sounds. One two three four. One two three four.
01:23As this one's got a larger stick it's a lot easier for me to play because I've got quite big hands. One two three four. One two three four. One two three four. One two three four. One two three four.
01:30One two three four. One two three four. One two three four. One two three four. They come in many different designs and if you are interested in getting a monkey drum I will put the link in the description and I hope you enjoyed this video. If you did make sure to give it a thumbs up, subscribe and I'll see you in the next video.
