00:01Previously on Project Runway All-Star.
00:04This week's challenge is the biggest test of your skills so far.
00:08As you light up the runway, literally.
00:11Guys, I'm done.
00:14No!
00:15He's like a little prima donna.
00:17Do you like my plan, Mondo?
00:19And remember, Mondo, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't tell Kelly anything.
00:23This looks sort of part alien, part Elizabethan.
00:27Michael's turning his model into an Ewok.
00:29Say hello to Pharrell Williams.
00:36I love this, Austin.
00:38I'm enchanted by your dress.
00:40Pharrell, would you like to name the winner?
00:42Austin.
00:45You're a star, man.
00:47Ew.
00:48I think it's divine. I think it's divine.
00:51The breast shape is very strange.
00:53She's more fit for like a Comic-Con.
00:55She looks kind of like an insect.
00:56It feels a little tribal rave.
00:59You're out.
01:00You're out.
01:01You're out.
01:0213 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
01:09And this time, the competition is tougher than ever.
01:12Each week, their skills are tested to the limit as they compete for the biggest prize in runway history.
01:18Who will be cut?
01:19And who will have it all sewn up?
01:21This is Project Runway All-Stars.
01:27The winner of Project Runway All-Stars will sell their merchandise within an exclusive boutique at select Neiman Marcus stores and on neimanmarcus.com.
01:35The winner will also get a spread in Mary Claire Magazine in a position as guest editor for one year.
01:40$100,000.
01:41$100,000 in technology and office space from HP and Intel.
01:44A sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International.
01:48And a cash prize of $100,000 courtesy of L'Oreal Paris.
01:52I wonder what we're going to be doing today.
02:05Probably designing something.
02:07It's the final challenge before the finale.
02:11There's only three spots.
02:13I'm one of the four.
02:14There's Team Eminem and Team Ka.
02:16We need one another's emotional support.
02:20I'm so, so happy that Kenley is with me.
02:23Austin, Kenley, time to go.
02:35Good morning, designers.
02:37Good morning.
02:38Good morning, Angela.
02:39You are all now battling it out for a place in the finale where one of you will win the grand prize.
02:45This means your designs will be placed within the walls of Neiman Marcus stores, the finest luxury retailer in the United States.
02:53This week's client is known for her romantic, feminine, and modern designs that are affordable to women all over the country.
03:01She's New York designer, Nanette Lepore.
03:04Oh, cool.
03:05Nanette Lepore is a New York-based designer.
03:09Her look is very approachable, wearable, sort of bohemian chic.
03:14Nanette's studio is in the world famous Garment District, an area that's at risk of disappearing because of the cost of doing business in New York City.
03:23You've shown us great runway looks, but in order to be successful, you have to be able to bring fashion and business together.
03:32This week's winning design will actually be sold in Nanette Lepore stores nationwide, but it must be able to be manufactured for a specific price point.
03:42Nanette's waiting for you in her studio where she will explain the challenge to you.
03:47And I will see you back tomorrow on the runway.
03:50Good luck.
03:55Being a New York City designer, I work in the Garment Center.
03:58I'm there every day.
03:59These small mom and pop workshops are just finding it very hard to afford the high rent.
04:08Hi, I'm Nanette Lepore.
04:10Welcome to my design studio.
04:11This neighborhood is near and dear to my heart because I started my business here over 20 years ago.
04:16Nanette is really like a classic New York fashion success story.
04:21I want you to make a garment that's irresistible, feminine, timeless.
04:25And because this is a ready to wear challenge, you're going to be under the real test of the retail customer.
04:30This challenge is, you know, really focused on the business side.
04:35The winner of the challenge will have their garment manufactured in a local factory to be sold in my stores nationwide.
04:42And the profits will go to SaveTheGarmentCenter.org.
04:46I think this is a really great challenge because I've worked with factories who have had to move out of the garment district.
04:52You're going to be able to start sketching here.
04:54And I'll be around in a few minutes to check your sketches to make sure that you're working within a budget.
05:00Now, bear in mind that the simpler your design, the more money you'll have to spend on fabric.
05:05I feel like this is really my type of challenge.
05:12I have designed for a mass market before.
05:16I've designed my own line.
05:18Making a caftan again, but this one's more of like a day dress caftan slash something.
05:26So I quickly sketch out this idea I have for a fun, glamorous swing coat that you could wear over like a beautiful cocktail dress or even a pair of jeans.
05:39This is a challenge for me because I don't really sketch.
05:43I sketch like an eight-year-old.
05:45And so when I'm given time to sketch, I usually just draw hearts and stars like an eight-year-old.
05:53I'm worried about this one because I don't want her to think that I'm not a real designer.
05:58Okay, so you ready for us?
06:01I'm ready.
06:02This is Kelly.
06:03Hi, Kelly.
06:04Nice to meet you.
06:05Nice to meet you.
06:06Kelly is our coster.
06:07We have to see what it will be appraised at and what it would be sold for.
06:11Then work with the coster to find out how much it's going to cost to produce this look.
06:15Can you tell us about your design a little bit?
06:17Sure.
06:18This is my take on something that I think would be really, really chic.
06:21And I'd love to work with jersey.
06:24This armhole, this sleeve, this is another giant fabric eater.
06:28You don't have any seam lines cutting this up to sort of get better yield.
06:32What do you think, Kelly?
06:33For a dress like this, we typically would aim for a price point of about $380.
06:38Jerseys are about $14 printed jersey.
06:42Which leaves you with a $48 budget for fabric.
06:45So that kind of limits me a little bit because I need like four yards to create what I want to create.
06:51This is definitely a good lesson that pushes me to step out of a little bit of comfort zone and try and do things more cost efficiently.
07:00Um, I was thinking a cut out, like keyhole to reserve on costs.
07:05That's good.
07:06But look like a lot of fabric.
07:07And you can sex it up by putting kind of a sexy keyhole.
07:10Mm-hmm.
07:11I like that.
07:12So a dress like this would typically retail for about $350.
07:16After you factor in all of the labor costs, you have about $41 left to work with in fabric.
07:23Okay.
07:24And I knew exactly what the price point would be.
07:26So I think you're ready to start it.
07:27Yeah.
07:28I've done this a few times.
07:31I nailed it.
07:33So, um, I was thinking of doing a coat, sort of like a swing coat.
07:38And now you're going to need a crispy, like a taffeta type fabric to hold that out.
07:42With an idea like this, we're looking at using up a lot of fabric.
07:45And right now, this would probably retail for about $500, leaving you with only $65
07:50to work with for fabric and trim.
07:52Okay.
07:53Okay.
07:54Okay.
07:55I can spend about $15 per yard on fabric to keep within our budget.
08:01So, this is the problem with me.
08:03I don't really sketch.
08:04That's not part of my process.
08:05And you were looking at me like, what?
08:07A designer that doesn't sketch.
08:08But I just, I don't.
08:09My drawings are like a five-year-old, so bear with me.
08:12This is a basic, really simple dress that would be five different fabrics and stripes.
08:18I don't, I can't translate it through my drawing, you know.
08:21It does look sort of like a tin can with a string hanging out.
08:25A dress like this would probably retail for about $300.
08:30And then adding in the labor costs, the cutting, the shipping, all of the overhead, you have
08:35about $32 left to work with as far as fabric and trim included.
08:39Okay.
08:40I'm already feeling defeated.
08:41I promise you, this will come together.
08:44Okay.
08:47You're welcome.
08:48Okay.
08:50You should teach upon know how to sketch.
08:52We're in someone's studio.
08:53We're in someone's studio.
08:54You've been plenty mean.
08:55It's not even about that.
08:56I had just gotten into a confrontation with Kenley.
08:59I overhear her talking to Michael saying that to be a designer, you really have to know how to sketch.
09:04And that, I mean, of course I'm going to take offense to that because I'm not, I don't sketch.
09:10I'm sorry then.
09:11I'm sorry.
09:12So it kind of frustrates me.
09:18Gorgeous.
09:20So we're all scouring Nanette's fabrics.
09:23She has a whole floor of fabrics.
09:28I really am a fan of Nanette Lepore's prints.
09:31When I saw this peacock feather, I just fell in love with it.
09:35Yeah.
09:36That's it.
09:37I instantly see the jerseys again.
09:40My favorite fabric.
09:41I found the perfect one.
09:42It had a beautiful weight.
09:45Okay.
09:46I think I'm ready.
09:50Hello, Kelly.
09:51Hi.
09:52I love this.
09:53Raincoat taffeta.
09:54Okay.
09:55And you have how many pleats?
09:56I feel like one, two, three.
09:58What was like the total budget I would have for fabric and trimming and everything?
10:0365.
10:04So you have four yards at 15.
10:07So right now you're right on target.
10:08Yay.
10:10Thank you so much.
10:11Nice to meet you.
10:12Sorry.
10:14Hi Kelly.
10:15Hi Michael.
10:16I want to go with this one.
10:17This is a dress that I'm doing.
10:18I'm not going to do it as flowy.
10:19So however much I can get for 18.
10:21So your budget is $48.
10:23You want to use a little under three yards.
10:25Under three yards.
10:26And I think you'll hit target.
10:27Okay.
10:28Cool.
10:29Okay.
10:30Awesome.
10:31Hi.
10:32I'm just getting this beautiful peacock fabric.
10:35Very nice.
10:36And this is going to be the piping.
10:38The combo.
10:39Around the tulip sleeves and the keyhole.
10:41Maybe a yard.
10:42So you're going to do a yard of that.
10:44And then for your dress.
10:4630.
10:47You're slightly over.
10:49Let's just do half a yard of the bias cut.
10:52$39.
10:53So.
10:55So perfect.
10:56Okay.
10:58Hey Kelly.
10:59Hi.
11:00So here's what I got.
11:02Charmousse salad.
11:03Cotton print.
11:04Okay.
11:05Your second one would be about six you think?
11:07I want these four to be symmetrical.
11:09Okay.
11:10Perfect.
11:11Two point eight eight.
11:12It's $15.77 total for fabric so far.
11:15We'll do one yard of trim.
11:17You have about $3.50 left over.
11:20All right.
11:21Good.
11:22So I'm under budget.
11:23Perfect.
11:36Oh look.
11:37I'm next to you.
11:38Yay.
11:39I got this gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
11:42Oh I love it.
11:43Isn't it beautiful?
11:44I feel like I need one bit of control.
11:48You never have any control in this competition.
11:50You never know what the judges are going to say.
11:53And I think the thing about it is like I'm just very, very scared of failing.
11:57I opened the fabric because they said it's 60 inches wide.
12:04But the print is not 60 inches wide.
12:07The print is 47 inches wide and it has white matte jersey on the end of each.
12:14It's like 10 inches on each side.
12:16You have lots of extra yardage, so.
12:18Uh-uh.
12:19No extra yardage.
12:20We're not allowed any extra fabric.
12:22It was going to be a wrap dress with long sleeves.
12:24I was like, damn.
12:26I lose my sleeves.
12:27Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
12:33How do you wear a bra with this?
12:35It's a dress that we've all seen before.
12:37So Austin, show us your design.
12:40I just don't see what the judges constantly see in his work.
12:43I've been thinking and I think I'm going to get rid of the keyhole.
13:01Uh-huh.
13:02I don't think the keyhole is going to work with this print.
13:04This week our challenge is to work within a budget as a designer.
13:09To create something with a very specific price point.
13:13And that way you don't have to worry about cutting into the beautiful peacock print.
13:16Right.
13:17I really thought she should do the keyhole that she had in her sketch for this dress.
13:22You can't cut a keyhole into that print.
13:25You can't do it.
13:26You can put the keyhole in a dress.
13:32I've never really been scared of this work before.
13:35And it's really put a bad taste in my mouth, you know.
13:39Like to feel like this is defeating me.
13:41Like something that I love is actually pushing me away.
13:44I want to be here and I want to work.
13:47And it pisses me off that he's not feeling it.
13:51You know, it's a lot of negative energy.
13:54I'm not really nervous that I'm so close to the end.
13:58But I don't get nervous a lot.
14:01So the models arrived for the fitting.
14:04But unfortunately there's nothing really ready to fit.
14:08The only thing that maybe we can look at is like the sleeve muslin on you.
14:12There's so much work to do.
14:14A lot, a lot, a lot of work to do.
14:16Hello designers.
14:26Hi Joanna.
14:27Hi Nanette.
14:28Hi everyone.
14:29This is the most important challenge of the series.
14:33Because this is where one person goes home and the remaining three go on to the finale.
14:38And it's also where art and commerce meet.
14:42We know you can all produce fantastic one off outfits.
14:47Ken Lee, I'm talking to you.
14:49What we want to know is can you produce ready to wear clothes for a customer base.
14:55Because that's what you need to be able to do if you're going to go on and run a really successful business.
15:00Which is why I've brought Nanette with me for the fitting.
15:03You ready Nanette?
15:04I'm ready.
15:05Let's go.
15:06Ken Lee.
15:07Hi.
15:08How's it going?
15:09Pretty good.
15:10I'm just fitting this sleeve right now.
15:12Okay Nanette.
15:13Come.
15:14Let's move you over here.
15:15All right.
15:16So just talk to us a little bit more.
15:17You're putting on a tulip sleeve here.
15:18I want it to be loose fitted.
15:20Nanette, does this look different from the design you saw earlier?
15:24What I saw earlier was a little bit more body fitted.
15:26This is a little looser.
15:28It's a little harder to sell than something that's closer to the body.
15:31Isn't something fitting well part of feeling gorgeous?
15:34Fit is what will make or break a sale.
15:37This is gorgeous the way it is.
15:39Ken Lee's dress does resemble a little bit of the same silhouette that she does which is the high neckline little short sleeves.
15:46Once you see it finished it will flatter her body.
15:49I mean we'll see what happens.
15:50All right well Ken Lee good luck.
15:52Thanks.
15:53Good luck.
15:54This dress will really be about the print because that's the way I design.
15:59Michael, let's have a look at what you're up to.
16:03How far is this from the sketch that you saw earlier?
16:06It's pretty close.
16:07I mean we can't sell something that's plunging to the navel.
16:11So there would be like a hook and eye closure required.
16:14You have to give a woman an option.
16:15I would like to have it just as an option here.
16:19That works.
16:20All right let me ask you one of my absolute pet peeves that I hear from readers and I personally feel very strongly about.
16:26Michael knows exactly what it is.
16:27Is this the bra?
16:28It's the bra.
16:29How do you wear a bra with this?
16:30My answer is you could also do the hook and eye closure to the back if you wanted to wear a bra.
16:36Okay how are you accessorizing from the Neiman Marcus wall?
16:39There's this gold peacock necklace that I saw back there that's really gorgeous and maybe like a gladiator type wedge but not hard like in a nude or neutral color.
16:49All right good luck Michael.
16:52It's just really hard to wear Michael's clothes unless you're a model.
16:58Austin.
16:59Hello.
17:00So Austin show us your design.
17:02It's a raincoat.
17:03Okay.
17:04It's a glamorous swing coat.
17:06I just don't see what the judges constantly see in his work.
17:09I think it could be worn during the day but it could definitely be a dressy evening coat as well.
17:14People respond to a bright colored coat.
17:17If it comes out beautiful it'll be an entrance making coat.
17:21Nanette can be direct, no nonsense, to the point.
17:25So I actually appreciate that type of critique.
17:28I feel like this is one of those pieces that could be on my thin line.
17:31Is it hideous?
17:32Is it fabulous?
17:33Which side of the line does it fall on?
17:34It seems like it's always that fine line.
17:37All right.
17:38Well good luck with it.
17:39I know you will figure this out and I can't wait to see the final look.
17:41Good luck.
17:42Good luck.
17:43Thank you so much.
17:44You're welcome.
17:45I'm really excited about the level of luxury that I've been able to achieve in my look.
17:51You know I look around the room and I have to say that not all of the dresses look very expensive in my mind.
18:00Mondo, hello.
18:01Hi.
18:02Hi.
18:03You've got a lot of fabrics going on here.
18:05Yes.
18:06This is what Nanette called my can with a string through it.
18:10I said it looked like a tin.
18:11His sketch looked like a tin can.
18:12I don't sketch Joanna so it was terrible.
18:15So it looked like a tin can with a string through it.
18:17Yeah.
18:18Well it doesn't look like that now but I'm unclear exactly what it is.
18:21It's a dress and this will be the sequence of the fabrics.
18:25Where would you see someone wearing this?
18:28Like on a date to the park you can wear it to a cocktail party.
18:31I think it's very easy to wear.
18:34This looks more like play wear to me.
18:36Like it's not going to work but it's the kind of dress like you said you could wear it with flip flops to the flea market or put on high heels and go out to dinner.
18:43You have to figure it out but I know you will.
18:45All right.
18:46All right.
18:47Good luck, Mondo.
18:48All right.
18:50Guys and gal, this is a really important challenge for you all.
18:56Go the extra mile.
18:57Good luck.
18:58I can't wait to see everything on the runway tomorrow.
19:00Bye.
19:01Bye.
19:02Bye.
19:21I felt more like myself with this dress because it's so simple, so beautiful and it's me.
19:27Michael's dress is very Michael.
19:30It's a dress that we've all seen before.
19:32The gelato challenge.
19:37The only thing that I don't like about this design is that you see those pit bull dogs that are so ugly but they're so ugly that they're cute.
19:45That's what my dress is.
19:46Guys, that's it.
19:47Time to go home.
19:48To be eliminated on this challenge would just be the most heart-wrenching thing.
19:53Breathe in, breathe out.
19:54Basically what happened to me on the first season of Project Runway.
19:59There.
20:00There.
20:01Yeah.
20:02There.
20:03Yeah.
20:04Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
20:11I definitely am noticing a lot of rumbling.
20:12What?
20:13Nia Diva?
20:14It's kind of old looking.
20:15Hmm.
20:16I have seen that dress at a bargain basement.
20:17Let's get down to the runway, guys.
20:18To get eliminated now, I would be crushed.
20:23I definitely am noticing a lot of rumbling with this taffet.
20:24Had I had more time, I probably would have lined up my face.
20:25It's kind of old looking.
20:26It's kind of old looking.
20:27Hmm.
20:28I have seen that dress at a bargain basement.
20:29Let's get down to the runway, guys.
20:30To get eliminated now, I would be crushed.
20:33I definitely am noticing a lot of rumbling with this taffet.
20:50Had I had more time, I probably would have lined it.
20:53I just have to iron down the piping and put in a zipper.
20:58But for the most part, I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
21:02Ugh.
21:03This dress, I really am having issues with it.
21:05It's strange.
21:07I've never felt so wishy-washy that I feel right now.
21:12Oh, my God.
21:17I kind of like it with out of belt.
21:20When they look at you, let them look at it, then go, and you open it.
21:24He's going to need something.
21:26Yeah.
21:27Because it's going to fall off.
21:30The hem is huge.
21:31Like, I wasted so much fabric.
21:34Oh, wow.
21:35Austin is Austin.
21:37His raincoat is very Austin Scarlet.
21:40I'm not really liking the color.
21:43It's kind of old-looking.
21:45Who's a bigger diva, me or Austin?
21:49Austin.
21:50What?
21:51Me a diva?
21:53I'm doing, like, this modern kind of version on a drop waist skirt.
21:59For hair this time, I kind of want to give her a bow bob with this kind of side bun.
22:05I think it's really pretty.
22:06Very 60s, young and fresh.
22:09Buffonty.
22:10Tight, big, come down to, like, the little pony.
22:14Basically, what I want is kind of like what you have on your hair.
22:18Like the male Snooki?
22:19Yes, like the male Snooki.
22:21I'm kind of thinking, like, a glam ponytail.
22:24Like a little swing on the head.
22:25Perfect.
22:26Thank you, L'Oreal Paris.
22:28I'm thinking I want something dramatic in the eye.
22:32Nice, rosy cheek and a natural lip.
22:34I want a very nude coral lip gloss.
22:37It's a resort look, so it's clean, clean skin, fresh face.
22:40Cerise Noir color.
22:44Guys, we got 10 minutes left to get the models dressed and on the runway.
22:48Where's the screwdriver to change the needle?
22:50Just use the bobbin.
22:52I unscrew with the bobbin.
22:54Really?
22:55This is cute, I think.
22:57You're not going to give me your honest opinion, because you want me to go home, bitch.
23:01For me, to get eliminated right now would be different, because I don't know how that feels.
23:08But I know there's a good chance that I might get eliminated.
23:11It does look very boxy, but I think it's fun.
23:14I think it's fresh.
23:15I think it's modern.
23:16Do we need earrings?
23:18The dress alone speaks for itself.
23:20Okay, let's walk so you make sure you're not going to fall out of it, because I am not using tape today.
23:25Michael's dress was just very inappropriate.
23:29Also, I feel like I have seen that dress sort of on 14th Street at a bargain basement type shop.
23:38The construction of this thing is like flawless.
23:41You cannot find an imperfection.
23:44Mmm.
23:45I think it should be myself, Mondo, and Kinley in the final three.
23:55The dress looks great.
23:56She could wear it with heels and dress it up, wear it with flats, dress it down.
24:00Should we do it airy?
24:01I am experienced in making and selling ready-to-wear clothes, so I think if I got eliminated in this challenge, I would be bummed.
24:10Oh, you look so pretty.
24:12I think in her cut work, that's where Kinley fails, because if you see where the seams are, she doesn't take the time to match up her patterns, which is really important on such a simple dress.
24:23Yeah, it's nice.
24:24I need to iron in.
24:25I need to take a melt.
24:26I'm this typical Austin Scarlett, the mad couturier running around like a chicken without his head.
24:36I don't like Austin's raincoat.
24:38I mean, he was working up until the very last minute.
24:41There's a lot of stuff that's unfinished.
24:43Oh, I think it looks beautiful.
24:45Five minutes left, guys.
24:51I feel so confident.
24:52I really feel like I have the win here.
24:54To get eliminated now, I would be crushed, because I'd be in the exact same position that I was on Project Runway 8 my season.
25:03This close to getting there.
25:05And then they said, I'm sorry, you're out.
25:08Let's get down to the runway, guys.
25:14Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
25:17Is it the most exciting dress we've seen from you?
25:20No.
25:21I think you just needed to add that one more special touch.
25:24It's not sexy, but it shouldn't be frumpy.
25:26There are four of you left, but only three places in the finals.
25:30Hello, designers.
25:31Hello.
25:32Hello.
25:33As it's been said on Project Runway, one day you're in and the next you're out.
25:50And that's never been more true than on All Stars.
25:53There are four of you fighting it out for just three places in the final challenge.
26:00This week, we combined commerce and fashion to see if you could design for real women.
26:05Your ready-to-wear looks will all walk the runway, but only one of them will be sold as a limited edition line nationwide.
26:12The profits from the winning design will go to the charity Save the Garment Center.
26:19So let's meet the judges.
26:20First, the designer and co-founder of Marquesa, Georgina Chapman.
26:25Hi.
26:26Hi.
26:27Next, one of the most famous names in fashion, Isaac Mizrahi.
26:32Hi, kids.
26:34Our guest judge this week has been a champion of the New York Garment District for many years.
26:40Please welcome Nanette Lepore.
26:43Hi.
26:46The judges and I want to see ready-to-wear looks that are timeless, but most importantly, can be sold to customers all across the country.
26:54So let's get to it.
26:56Have a great show.
26:57My model looks like a gorgeous, confident woman walking down Fifth Avenue and stopping traffic with every twirl she makes.
27:27It's exactly what I wanted, this fresh, beautiful vibe, this woman who's on this beautiful vacation, just got out of the swimming pool, the dewy eyes, the perfect hair.
27:45I feel really good about it.
27:50Pretty.
27:57The dress is great.
28:01I love the colors and how sophisticated, but yet really fun and vibrant it is.
28:07I think there's some really nice details and my model is really working it.
28:12I think she looks really beautiful.
28:31I think any woman of any size or shape could really pull this dress off and this is what this challenge is all about.
28:38Designers, there are four of you left, but only three places in the finals.
28:57To help us decide who will make it through, all of you will receive critique from the judges.
29:02Let's bring out your models.
29:08So Mondo, tell us about your design.
29:12I was kind of in a dark place yesterday.
29:14I found that I have to just really throw myself into this garment and really do something that I love, which is color and mixing prints.
29:22And so I just created this really fun, flirty little dress that can be dressed up or dressed down.
29:28I really like this dress.
29:29I think it's masterful to a certain degree, like the way you balance the colors.
29:33I wish it could just get a little slimmer at the waist because then she wouldn't be such a potato shape.
29:39Do you know what I mean?
29:40It's very cute, but I worry a little that it's hard to get a woman with curves into a silhouette like that.
29:47It would take a little bit of finessing.
29:49One of the things that's bothering me is showing it with high heels.
29:52I'd like to see it with sandals to play it down a little more.
29:56She's so right about the high heel shoes.
29:58Oh my God, that shoe fights it just a bit.
30:00Mondo, I know the parameters of what you were given with budget.
30:04Did you choose to go more with fabric or choose to go more with the design?
30:08I stuck to my original design.
30:10Is it the most exciting dress we've seen from you? No.
30:14But I like your use of fabrics, and that's where you are very strong.
30:19And Michael, let's move on to you.
30:21When we were presented with the challenge, I heard a few key things that I thought were wonderful,
30:27which was timeless and feminine.
30:29And I'd never really do full print, so I wanted to have fun.
30:33And I started draping, and I just fell in love with it.
30:35I love it. I would put it in my suitcase and take it away.
30:38Here you've managed to do something very sensual rather than overtly sexual,
30:43which has worked in your favor.
30:45I don't like to objectify women where they're just out of control sexy.
30:49You know what I mean?
30:50Like somehow she's in control, and she's showing plenty of flesh.
30:53I like the way it gathers here in a really subtle way.
30:55I wasn't sure why it was made so long.
30:58She looks like she was struggling walking.
31:00If it was translated into marking and they wanted to do it shorter,
31:03they can definitely easily take two or three inches off.
31:05I do agree with Angela. I think it's a touch long.
31:07When you're watching someone, you don't want to be like,
31:09oh, she's going to fall.
31:10Perhaps it just needed a touch of a tweak there.
31:13Will you turn around?
31:16The one thing that feels a little, you know,
31:18Canal Street or something is the strap across the back.
31:21It feels like one of those T-shirts that they make that are too plungy,
31:24so they have a strap to hold it up.
31:26The back being wide open would be a problem.
31:29You want to give them an option to wear a bra.
31:31Sexy as they are, backless things don't really sell as well.
31:36Kenley.
31:37Well, when I went to Nanette's studio, I saw this print and I fell in love with it.
31:42And I wanted to do something very flattering to the body,
31:46something a girl just can feel really comfortable and good in.
31:50I love your quirk.
31:51You have this vintage quirkiness to you, yet you take it to a modern family place.
31:56But I do think that with this print, it's just a little problematic.
32:00I think the pattern itself, it's very Kenley.
32:03But where your seams come, it throws off the eye with the pattern.
32:08It's nice.
32:09It's really wearable.
32:10I'm kind of sad because there was a beautiful detail on the sketch that's missing from the dress now.
32:15What?
32:16A circular...
32:17Oh, the keyhole?
32:18I had to throw that out because of the print.
32:21I felt like that was going to be the thing that made it more commercial because they always want one special element.
32:27I think you just needed to add that one more special touch.
32:30Can you turn around, please? I just want to see the back.
32:35It's a good dress. It's a really good dress.
32:39Except I kept waiting for it to change into something more inspired on the runway.
32:48Austin, tell us about your look.
32:50I was really actually inspired by the challenge itself, working within a budget,
32:55but trying to make something look as expensive or as luxurious as possible within that budget.
33:00The coat itself can be worn three different ways, sort of as this Watteau silhouette that she has now
33:05where it's just belted in the front only, or you could wear it full swing, or just sensed all the way around.
33:10I would never have known that that was a coat, the way you showed it.
33:13It felt almost like a little taffeta evening dress or something.
33:16Did you know that was a coat?
33:17I thought it was a dress.
33:18Yeah, I really like it.
33:19And when you say it's a coat, I now forgive some of the things that I would not have forgiven had it been a dress.
33:25I was going like, is it a little wrinkly?
33:27Like, is the textile not looking as special and beautiful as it needs to?
33:31But even a raincoat needs to be a little bit more pressed up.
33:36I kind of agree with Isaac.
33:37Not every fabric looks great on the runway.
33:39Some things that look great for retail just don't do enough on the runway.
33:43Yeah.
33:44But it is beautiful.
33:45I mean, I said I loved it.
33:47I love the color.
33:48I love the cut.
33:49It's practical, sophisticated.
33:50I think that this would sell well in retail.
33:53It made a really beautiful product.
33:55Thank you very much.
33:57Thank you, designers.
33:59We have a lot to talk about.
34:00Oh, yeah.
34:01You can leave the runway and we'll be calling you back soon.
34:13I guess they had something negative to say about all of us, so...
34:19Okay, guys, so we have a big decision to make.
34:22Only three of our all-stars can go through to the final challenge.
34:25So let's start with our success stories.
34:27I really thought Austin did a great job.
34:30Austin's work, you know exactly who the woman is, who the muse is, what the inspiration was.
34:36What I love about Austin, too, is he's just on his own plane.
34:40Austin sticks to Austin, and I love that about him.
34:43I think it's a beautiful design, but I think overall the choice of fabric just didn't live up to the design.
34:48So it wasn't my top choice.
34:54I love Mondo.
34:55He gave himself such a challenge by choosing so many different fabrics.
34:58Everybody else chose one fabric.
35:00That's what I respect about his design.
35:02When you can chop it up and remix it, that, I think, is what was interesting.
35:06Mondo really sat there and stared at those colors and those patterns and put that together.
35:11I mean, it was a real composition final.
35:13It really was.
35:14I must say this is my least favorite of Mondo's looks.
35:18Really?
35:19It's a little boxy.
35:20I would feel not very flattering in that dress.
35:26Kenley had an idea of a dress and just took a print and didn't think,
35:29does this print work with my idea of a dress?
35:32She didn't make it her own.
35:33In fact, her design for your print.
35:35It really disappointed me because I really think that Kenley has the ability to design beautiful feminine cuts.
35:42She had a really cute sketch and then she made the mistake of falling in love with the print that didn't work with the sketch.
35:47Okay, so it's not sexy but it shouldn't be frumpy.
35:50And I found that dress a little frumpy.
35:52How was she in the workroom working with Kenley?
35:54She doesn't want to take advice.
35:55I mean, if she's going to take this opportunity and be haughty about it and not listen, it's wasted.
36:00The good thing about Kenley is you do know what you're going to get and it is very wearable and she's got a point of view.
36:06I would love to see Kenley with her own little shop.
36:09I could see it being this place that's really feminine and very fun that any girl could walk into and find a dress that she loves.
36:21Michael's dress to me was so reliant on that print.
36:24That dress without that print, what was it? It was just a very simple caftan.
36:28But whatever it was, when it walked down the runway, I thought that is really pretty on that girl.
36:33The sketch looked old and I didn't, I thought this is, I'm not going to like this.
36:38But when I saw it, I was pleasantly surprised.
36:41Michael just goes to this like crazy sexy edge.
36:44This week, I think he tempered it a little bit. I was very happy to see that he tempered it a bit.
36:48I think Michael's a great designer. I think that he has a lot of potential.
36:52But I've seen throughout the weeks, he either hits it or misses it.
36:57He needs that confidence in himself to have that strong point of view that's just Michael.
37:03Because right now, I think he's trying to people please.
37:06Rather than being like, this is Michael and I'm unapologetic.
37:12So here's the hard part. Who are we sending home?
37:16I'm so torn. I really am.
37:18Michael dresses a much more sophisticated woman, whereas Kenley dresses a younger, happier woman.
37:24So Kenley's contemporary department, Michael is designer.
37:27Exactly.
37:28That's really true.
37:29So it's a hard call.
37:30It is a hard call.
37:31So are decisions made?
37:36That was the hardest one we have made so far.
37:39That was hard.
37:40Well, then let's bring the designers out.
37:51Designers, three of you will go through to the final challenge.
37:54And one of you will be going home.
38:01Designers, one of you is the winner of this week's challenge.
38:05And your design will be sold in Nanette's stores.
38:09With the profits going to save the garment center.
38:13Three of you will go through to the final challenge.
38:15And one of you will be going home.
38:17Austin.
38:20You're safe.
38:21And that means you'll go through to the final challenge.
38:25Congratulations.
38:27You can leave the runway.
38:28On the first season of Project Runway, I was eliminated before the finals.
38:34So I'm excited and nervous about the final challenge.
38:42Mondo.
38:44Congratulations, Mondo.
38:46You're the winner of this week's challenge.
38:48Oh, my God.
38:50I thought I was going home this week.
38:52I really did.
38:53This is amazing.
38:55It means, of course, that you have a place in the all-stars final challenge.
38:59Thank you so much.
39:00You can leave the runway.
39:01I'll see you.
39:02Bye.
39:03I almost threw in the towel on this challenge.
39:05I'm shocked to be here.
39:08I won.
39:09Congratulations.
39:10Can you believe that?
39:11Yeah.
39:13I totally believe it.
39:14I'm, like, shaking.
39:19Michael.
39:21Kenley.
39:23We only have one place left in the all-stars final challenge.
39:28Michael, you're an excellent draper, and this dress was so well cut.
39:33But your design still isn't quite wearable for the average woman.
39:38And we're still not quite sure what your point of view is.
39:42Kenley.
39:44We love your quirky vintage look.
39:46But this dress was frumpy.
39:50Every designer has to listen to advice and accept criticism.
39:54Your stubbornness can get in the way of you becoming a great designer.
39:58Michael.
40:08You're in.
40:10Which, I'm sorry to say, Kenley.
40:13That means you're out.
40:15Okay.
40:16Michael, you're through to the final, and you can leave the runway.
40:19I love you, Kenley.
40:21I love you so much.
40:23Guys, thank you.
40:24I promise I'll get my point of view across.
40:28You made it?
40:29Yes.
40:30Yeah.
40:34Kenley, thank you so much for being part of all-stars.
40:38You have a fantastic future ahead of you.
40:41Thanks.
40:42We wish you all the best.
40:46Good luck.
40:47I don't really compromise what my vision is.
40:50I stick to it, and I do it.
40:52I have a vision, and I go for it.
40:55Congratulations.
40:58You're beautiful.
40:59You are beautiful.
41:01Of course I'm bummed.
41:02I wanted to win.
41:04But life goes on.
41:06Project Runway All-Stars inspired me to really push myself
41:09and just see where it goes.
41:13Next, on Project Runway All-Stars.
41:17You've all made it to the final challenge.
41:20It's frightening.
41:21You have four days.
41:23Uh-oh.
41:24Welcome to my work.
41:25The next four days are going to be very intense for you.
41:29She's such a .
41:30I need therapy.
41:31I love her.
41:32Are these pants?
41:33He said it looks like dead white ladies.
41:36Hello, designers.
41:38Guess who's here?
41:39I'm not ready for a twist.
41:42How are you feeling about tomorrow?
41:43Oh, God.
41:44I want to win.
41:45It's our last day before the big finale.
41:47I expect to work like my life is coming to an end.
41:50I know I have what it takes.
41:52This is all I've ever wanted.
41:53I can't wait any longer.
41:54I can't wait any longer.
