00:20With barely hours to go before his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on American soil, U.S. President Donald Trump says he expects this Friday's Alaska summit to be a good meeting, though this may not be the most crucial round of peace talks, according to the U.S. leader.
00:38Speaking at the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said he expects the second meeting to include Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and possibly someone from Europe.
00:48It is the first time the U.S. President has suggested that European leaders might be invited to the second meeting.
00:56His remarks come as U.S. and Russian officials converge on the state of Alaska this Friday for the highly anticipated talks aimed at enacting a key Trump campaign pledge to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

01:30The Pentagon on Thursday said around 800 U.S. National Guard troops have begun operations around Washington, D.C. to aid law enforcement personnel in the U.S. Capitol.
01:47The mobilization of the troops follows an order by U.S. President Donald Trump in what he called a crackdown on crime in the U.S. Capitol,
01:56a similar action he took during protests in Los Angeles in June, generating widespread backlash.
02:03All this administration does is lie and lie and lie. Crime is down. This is a power grab.
02:10This is disgraceful. I come here every day. I never feel unsafe.
02:15This is an act and putting women of color, making these people have these as their work orders.
02:21It's disgusting. And for what? For what?
02:24According to defense officials, Guard members on patrol are not carrying weapons as of now,

02:49However, data from Washington police shows significant drops in violent crime between 2023 and 2024.
03:03The United States has sent the European Union its proposed changes to a heavily anticipated joint statement
03:09regarding the trade deal agreed by U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen last month.
03:17The statement will set out technical details and include a list of goods that will be exempt from tariffs.
03:25I'm now happy to confirm that we have received a text from the U.S. with their suggestions for, let's say,
03:38getting closer to that final finalization of the document.
03:42So we're going to look at that now.
03:44We'll have some engagement at both technical and political level with our American counterparts,
03:47and we keep the work going forward in that sense.
03:52Washington lowered tariffs it would impose on EU goods to 15% after last month's agreement.

04:28with dozens of people still missing.
04:31Chositi is the last place accessible to vehicles on the route of an annual Hindu pilgrimage to a mountain shrine.
04:38Multiple pilgrims are feared to have been caught up in the disaster,
04:42with officials saying the pilgrimage has been suspended.
