00:00Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is planning to meet U.S. President Donald Trump
00:06in the White House on Monday. The announcement comes just hours after a U.S. summit with Russian
00:13President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which produced no agreement to end the war on Ukraine.
00:19Zelenskyy said he had a long conversation with Trump over the phone and reiterated the importance
00:25of involving European countries in the peace efforts. This will be Zelenskyy's second visit
00:30to the U.S. during Trump's second term, after the first descended into an open argument between him,
00:36Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance in front of journalists in the Oval Office.
00:46Protesters gathered in the Alaskan city of Anchorage to oppose U.S. President Donald Trump's hosting
00:51of a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The two leaders met for two and a half
00:57hours on Friday for high-stakes talks on Ukraine in pursuit of a peace deal, a Trump campaign promise
01:03that has yet to come to fruition. I think Trump made a lot of promises during his campaign that he
01:10would end the war quickly, within 24 hours if I recall, and he needs to show that he's doing
01:17something about it, and so he's got to do something. Many protesters were also critical
01:23of the absence of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a summit which could decide the fate
01:28of his country. I don't think any solution without the Ukrainians' input is going to end the war
01:34in a just and fair way. Other residents of the city say pursuing a peace deal with Putin is ineffective
01:42as they drew reference to his disregard of previous truces.
01:46We've signed peace treaties. Chechnya signed a peace treaty. Georgia signed a peace treaty. Ukraine
01:51signed a peace treaty. And Russia's been invading them for 11 years. So a peace deal is not going
01:58to do anything to stop Putin. Only bloodying his nose and fighting back against his aggression
02:04will stop him. Demonstrations have been held over the past few days in Anchorage in protest of hosting
02:10the Russian president on U.S. soil. Residents say Trump's welcoming of Putin sends the wrong message,
02:16adding that the U.S. should not openly receive war criminals.
02:24Firefighters in Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Turkey continue to battle wildfires as hot,
02:30dry conditions persist, challenging efforts to contain the flames. Portugal had its first death
02:36as a result of wildfires which have raged on for multiple weeks. In the Guarda district,
02:41the charred body of the former mayor of a small town was found in an area where lack of resources
02:47is hampering firefighting efforts. Around 4,000 firefighters are tackling around 10 fires throughout
02:53central and northern Portugal. Spanish firefighters are battling 14 fires across the country, which have
03:00left three people dead, including two volunteer firefighters. A wildfire in Greece burned out of
03:06control for a fourth day on the island of Chios, prompting several more overnight evacuations.
03:13Firefighters in Turkey also continue to tackle fires across several provinces,
03:17and many appear to be largely contained by Saturday.
03:20At least one person has died and dozens more have been injured after a train collided with a tanker
03:31in southern Denmark on Friday. The victim was a 76-year-old woman. Five other people have been
03:40seriously injured, two of whom are in critical condition. Local media reports say the train collided
03:48with the vehicle at a crossing in the town of Tinglau, and that the country's rail operator,
03:53DSB, has halted services until further notice.
04:02One person has been killed and another injured in a shooting in central Sweden on Friday,
04:08which police believe is linked to gang violence. The attack happened in a car park outside a mosque
04:13in the city of Eurebro shortly after Friday's prayers. A 25-year-old man was killed and another
04:20man in his 20s was wounded. Authorities have said that at least one suspect was seen fleeing the scene.
04:28The incident comes amid Sweden's long-running struggle with gang-related crime.
