00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name is Theo Houston Betts and we've got some awesome transport news for you this week.
00:06So we're going to dive straight into it. Here is all the news that you'll need this week in Greater Manchester.
00:11Now we're going to be starting with the awesome news from the place right behind or below me actually,
00:16with essential tram replacement works finally having been completed at Piccadilly Gardens and along the Eccles Line.
00:22Normal services are back across the network now.
00:24The works came as part of a B Network plan to fix the tracks in a piecemeal way with nearly £150 million having been invested by Transport for Greater Manchester
00:33to maintain, upgrade and improve the Metrolink network right up to 2027.
00:38The idea is trying to avoid a situation where part of the line falls into disrepair, negatively impacting services and consistency amid a plan from Andy Burnham
00:45and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to make affordable and reliable public transport a key facet of Manchester's development for growth over the next decade and more.
00:54Unfortunately, the way the repairs and replacements work mean that there will usually be some sort of work going on or just about to start,
01:00but it is important to maintain the effectiveness of the system.
01:03Now sticking with the topic and Transport for Greater Manchester have revealed exciting new plans to develop Rochdale's public transport and green transport infrastructure.
01:11The plans were hinted at earlier this year but have now been refined in conjunction with Rochdale Council to create new cycle lanes, walking routes and bus stops around the town.
01:19The goal is to deliver quicker, more reliable bus journeys, better walking and cycling routes and more accessible stops.
01:25They'll be safe for crossing for walkers and wheelers with a new quiet route for cyclists too.
01:29Raised junctions will slow traffic and make walking easier without reducing the amount of lanes per traffic and there'll also be some adjustments to the flow of traffic too
01:36with the addition of a one-way street and a shift in attitudes to a proposed right-hand turn lane.
01:40But that's all we've got for this week.
01:41Thank you for watching and follow Manchester World for more.
