00:00250,000 pounds. It's an acorn which we want grown into a great oak tree.
00:09Lord Sugar's on the hunt for a brand new business partner.
00:13If you think this process is tough, it's just got a whole lot tougher.
00:17Over the next 12 weeks, you are out of your comfort zone.
00:21Ready to fight for his funding.
00:2418 aspiring entrepreneurs.
00:27Supply and demand, that's what this is about. I'm demanding the answers.
00:31You better bloody well supply them.
00:34On the table, a quarter million pound investment.
00:38And a 50-50 partnership with Britain's toughest backer.
00:43You haven't used any of your skills, any of your knowledge.
00:47Mistake on that, mistake on this, straight in the bin.
00:52It's a deal worth battling for.
00:55You are such a manipulator.
00:57I can see straight through you.
00:5918 candidates.
01:01Testians, out of the way.
01:03We're gonna be explosive.
01:0512 testing weeks.
01:06I really don't know what to do.
01:07I messed up a bit, didn't I?
01:08Oh, my God.
01:09One life-changing opportunity.
01:12You're fired. You're fired.
01:14This is a bad call on strategy. You're fired.
01:17You're fired.
01:18Previously on The Apprentice.
01:29I want you to set up your own handyman business.
01:33Garden clearances, house clearances, and everything in between.
01:36Project manager Elle laid poor foundations.
01:40You've missed the deadline for your flyer.
01:42That's completely my fault. Sorry about that, guys.
01:44I'm meant to lean to one side.
01:45I'm meant to stay straight.
01:46And her team failed to measure up.
01:48I don't know that bit's too short.
01:50I don't know why I got that wrong.
01:52No, it ain't coming off.
01:53Am I allowed to get away with that, am I?
01:55Are you kidding?
01:56On the other team...
01:58Always go with customer satisfaction.
02:00Sam struggled to keep count.
02:03£20 an hour.
02:04Yeah.
02:05So £120.
02:06No.
02:07It's £20 an hour per person.
02:09But Brett...
02:10Get this power washed and swept down.
02:13...cleaned up to take victory.
02:15Very good, Conexus.
02:17You've had your first win, so congratulations.
02:20For Elle...
02:21It's completely my fault, completely my fault.
02:24...an early exit.
02:25Mistake on this, mistake on that.
02:27There's no point carrying on.
02:29You're fired.
02:31It was also time up for McGinn.
02:33It is admirable that you have worked your way up,
02:36but it is with sincere regret that you're fired.
02:40And April made it three.
02:42I do believe that you have been standing back.
02:45You're fired.
02:50It's just me.
02:51It's just me.
02:52I've never seen something so brutal in my life.
02:55Now, ten candidates remain to fight for the chance
02:58to become Lord Sugar's business partner.
03:12I think you're going to have 500.
03:134.30pm.
03:14Order.
03:15Ooh.
03:16For the candidates, a day of rest.
03:32Versatile won every single task.
03:35And when they lost, triple Fari.
03:37That culling was horrible.
03:39I'm reading about post-traumatic stress disorder.
03:44I really understand where they're coming from.
03:46Having stress from the boardroom.
03:48All in.
03:52PHONE RINGS
03:57The door was just opened.
04:02Lord Chugger?
04:03Markham?
04:04Yes.
04:05Could you go and get the candidates and bring them in that room, please?
04:08Yeah?
04:09Yeah, sure.
04:12Lord Chugger's here.
04:13Upstairs now.
04:14She's right here.
04:15Everyone!
04:16Lord Chugger's here.
04:17Meeting in the living room right now.
04:19Lord Chugger's here, Father.
04:20Lord Chugger's here.
04:21Lord Chugger's here.
04:22Lord Chugger's here.
04:23Okay, Rowan.
04:24Lord Chugger's in the big brainstorm room.
04:25Waiting for you and you're late.
04:26Good afternoon.
04:27Good afternoon, Lord Chugger.
04:28Good afternoon.
04:29Good afternoon, Lord Chugger.
04:30So, as you know, I let three candidates go on the last task.
04:43So, the first thing I'm going to do is even the teams up.
04:47So, Gary, come over to Team Versatile.
04:50Now, in the past decade, discount stores and pound shops have taken over the high street.
04:59These stores tempt punters in by selling branded goods at a cheap price.
05:05But it's the non-branded items where the margins really lie.
05:10For this task, you're going to open up your own discount store.
05:13I'm going to send you to Manchester, and the reason is because they have an excellent array
05:19of wholesalers where you'll be able to choose the merchandise that you're going to sell.
05:24And just a note, businesses don't grow by sitting on the cash that they've made.
05:29So, you're going to have to continually replenish the stocks.
05:33And at the end of the task, I will be counting your stock, your cash, and that will be your assets.
05:40Is that clear?
05:41Yes, Lord Sugar.
05:43OK.
05:44Good luck, and I'll see you in a few days' time in the boardroom.
05:46Off you go.
05:47Thank you, Lord Sugar.
05:51With a starting fund of £500, teams have two days to spot hot sellers...
05:58But the earphones will sell quite well.
06:00..and turn products into profit.
06:06Welcome to your team, Gary.
06:08It's good to be back.
06:09First, both budget shops need bosses.
06:13I'm going to put myself forward. I desperately want to do it.
06:16I love selling so much, I think I can take us to win.
06:19I really want to give it a go.
06:21I think I'm the only one in the process not to be project manager yet.
06:24I've worked for one of the biggest retailers in the UK for the last seven years.
06:28I really, really, really, really want to do it.
06:31Gary, I would like to back you.
06:33Gary, I personally think you would be good for this.
06:37Gaz, congratulations, PM mate.
06:40In my industry, I am known as the postman because I always deliver.
06:44It's my job as project manager to be very clear throughout the task.
06:48And I will not stop at anything until I have one.
06:51OK, do hand checks later.
06:55Heading up the other team, senior sales manager, Scott.
06:59Has anybody been to discount shops before?
07:01Does anyone buy from them?
07:02I would go in there and buy cups, kitchen material.
07:05I used to go in there for all of my homeware and cleaning stuff
07:07because I don't care where that comes from.
07:09Next, choose what type of unbranded stock to sell.
07:14We need to look at which items are going to sell at a higher price
07:17because those will provide us with higher margins.
07:19Yeah, absolutely.
07:20I'm personally swaying towards the electronics.
07:23Is everyone happy with us?
07:25It's very interesting that they've all shopped in discount stores
07:28and they talked about the various items that they bought,
07:30but not one of them mentioned electronics
07:33and they've decided to stock their store with electronics.
07:37OK, so the products that I like is the selfie sticks,
07:40portable speakers, the portable device charger,
07:43hand blender, the extension lead.
07:46I feel like these are all very male-targeted products.
07:49If there was a woman walking past, I wouldn't necessarily go,
07:52oh, look at all these black wires.
07:55I've got some big personalities.
07:57I think we have to have a lot of respect
07:59because if not, it won't work and we'll have a shambles.
08:02Electronics generally is more something that guys are going to provide.
08:06No, I disagree.
08:07I mean, we've already chosen the product,
08:08so it's completely pointless.
08:09It's not pointless, Sam,
08:10because it's a good point about looking at the potential negatives
08:12of any product.
08:13It's something we need to be aware of.
08:16The cheaper products is what will make you the money.
08:19Still trying to pin down their unbranded items.
08:23That's something we really need to buy a lot of.
08:26Gary's team.
08:27You'll always want to pick up extra towels
08:29and extra bits and bobs from the house.
08:30You've also got gifts like candles.
08:32If you pop in to see someone, you'll buy candles.
08:34What do you think on the fan?
08:35I know it's 11 quid,
08:36but we could sell that fan for at least 20 quid.
08:38Gary, the problem with the fan is
08:40people are going out specifically to buy a fan.
08:44Gary's letting the others say too much
08:46and he's not really decisive enough.
08:48It seems like the bubble gun as well.
08:49If you're outside a shop and you're blowing bubbles,
08:51you're going to attract people in.
08:53He's not being as tough as he should be.
08:57I'm just going to go through these for two minutes.
08:59I want to get my head round these.
09:00If you want to just obviously carry on doing what you're doing,
09:02then don't think I'm ignoring you.
09:045am.
09:20The teams head north.
09:22I'm going to be fluent in Mancunian.
09:27It's like Manchester.
09:29Manchester.
09:30And all just like...
09:31Manchester.
09:32Oh, God.
09:36As well as sourcing unbranded stock to shift in bulk...
09:39Gary here from Versatile.
09:41I was wondering if I could place an order for some branded items, please.
09:44Both teams can order branded goods...
09:47Listerine Malfoy's 84p.
09:49..to pull in the punters.
09:52First of all, the Enagrid drinks can, please.
09:54500ml.
09:5512 at £9.72.
09:57The self-tanning wipes.
09:5920 at...
10:01Fairly two seconds.
10:02It's there.
10:03Yeah.
10:04No, no, no.
10:05No, it's seven.
10:07I'm really not convinced that our demographic
10:09is going to buy whitening tooth gel from a discount stand.
10:12But what would you put instead?
10:14Erm, if I can have a look at the...
10:16I just need...
10:17I need it for five seconds, Lena.
10:23The total price is £174.52.
10:27Correct, yes.
10:28Thanks ever so much for your help.
10:3310am, Manchester.
10:36Tomorrow, teams will open discount stores
10:39in one of the city's best-loved shopping centres.
10:43First...
10:44Hello.
10:45Hello.
10:46Hello, everybody.
10:47...hit the wholesalers to pick out their products.
10:49Ah, well, there's the extension lead.
10:51Powering through with his plan to sell tech...
10:54We have the hand blender.
10:55Selfie sticks at the front.
10:57A speedy stock-up for Scott.
10:59Speakers are here.
11:01And there's the power pack.
11:03We have everything, yeah?
11:04We have everything.
11:06For the selfie stick, we're thinking around 180% mark-up.
11:11None of us buy electrical products from discount stores.
11:14However, the margins are really good and that's why the decision was made.
11:17So it's a bit of a risky strategy in my opinion, but it could pay off.
11:20Judging by the quality, I think the amounts that we're selling these for are a reasonable price.
11:30Across town...
11:31Shall we take this?
11:32...sizing up a mixed bag of homeware and gifts...
11:35I want to maximise the money, but I want to get as much quantity as possible.
11:39...Gary's team...
11:41Ah, they are actually good candles.
11:44That's a nice box.
11:45I've got 450.
11:47Gary's team are buying a variety of items in a bit of a scattered gun approach.
11:50There's going to be some toddlers with their mums that I think we'll probably be able to sell bubble guns to.
11:54Bubble guns, yeah.
11:55The value of the products is actually quite low, so they're going to have to shift an enormous amount in order to make a decent profit.
12:01You could do these at three for ten pounds, because they're cheap.
12:03Okay.
12:06On the other team...
12:08Six items. One, two, three, four, five, six.
12:11Tech stock chosen.
12:13Are we all happy?
12:14I am. Yeah.
12:15Placed in charge of figures...
12:18Private tutor, Sam.
12:20Total price of £333.70.
12:22Yeah.
12:23Let's do it. Amazing.
12:25Total amount is £368.36.
12:29Brilliant.
12:31Is it not? Hold on.
12:33It should be lower.
12:35No.
12:37Just have a quick look at this.
12:42Can you tell us what the total price is, excluding the 2.5%?
12:48I have to say, when you're buying 84 items and you can't work out the numbers...
12:52What we're going to have to do is take a couple of our products off, if that's okay with you.
12:57Sam should be so embarrassed about this.
13:04On the other team, with product range picked out...
13:07Charlie and Joseph, I see you as two strong negotiators.
13:11...from project manager Gary, a plan.
13:14In terms of a target, it would be great to get double the quantity at the same price.
13:18Morning.
13:20Morning.
13:21Morning.
13:22So, we've purchased a range of kids' toys and some household goods.
13:26Okay.
13:27So, we're wondering if we could double up.
13:29So, basically, in a sense, it's buy one, get one free.
13:32So, if we've got a deal, can we double our stock with you today?
13:35No, no, no.
13:37Wholesalers work on small margins and big volume.
13:40The best I could do is a 5% discount.
13:42If you buy that again later on, we can do 10% for you.
13:45There's no way they can have lots of free product and asking for it is completely absurd.
13:49We'll get going now.
13:552pm.
13:56All the candles set.
13:57As many as you can actually physically fit in.
14:00The teams divide...
14:02Come on, Dave.
14:03..to sell their wares.
14:05There's only two of you, but...
14:06Right, I'm going to put you in charge, yeah?
14:09Good luck.
14:11They've got four hours to test their merchandise on Manchester's shoppers...
14:16Right here.
14:17Hang on, hang on, hang on.
14:19..before restocking the hot sellers later today.
14:22You all right, Charlene, yeah?
14:23Yeah.
14:25The eppy candles are eppy.
14:30Well done, mate.
14:32Every minute counts.
14:34Hey, ladies, how you doing?
14:35No, no, no, Richard!
14:36We're selling today lovely candles.
14:40Selfish idiot.
14:41And also, body butter gift set.
14:44You smell of roses or even watermelon.
14:46Ladies, I've got something you might be interested in.
14:48If you have a little smell of that.
14:51That's nice.
14:52I can do you one of those for five pounds.
14:54Do you want one of these?
14:55I like one of them.
14:56One of them as well?
14:57Excellent.
14:58Richard, because he is a little bit irritating,
15:00he really gives you that extra edge
15:02because you just want to smash him all the time.
15:05And I'll give you a five pound back there, lovely, all right?
15:08Do that again, Charlotte.
15:09Mate, it's all about selling the maximum.
15:11So all we want to do is absolutely a new win.
15:13So, Charlene, first of all...
15:14At the end of the day, you snooze, you lose.
15:16If you can sell more than him
15:18and you see his little face dropping down,
15:20it just gives you that pleasure.
15:21So Richard keeps me going.
15:23Just be a little bit more professional, Charlene.
15:25Yeah, and you too.
15:26So if we're setting up, just give us a little hand, darling.
15:29Guys, guys, guys, guys.
15:30Leave it there, leave it there.
15:31We just made a sale, come on.
15:32I know, made a sale.
15:33Well done, guys.
15:34Gonna win this.
15:35Good game, Richard.
15:36I'm gonna lead this.
15:38Now I'm sub-team leader, all right?
15:40Pitching up at Piccadilly Gardens...
15:43Cannot believe he made you sub-team leader
15:45of a two-person team.
15:47Brett, Barna, and a table full of tech.
15:51Do you like the prices, how they're written?
15:53Yeah, no, that's decent.
15:54That's what we wanted anyway,
15:55so people can see what it was and know what it is.
15:57Exactly.
15:59We're selling mobile device chargers for £10,
16:02limited time only.
16:03Do you feel comfortable
16:05miss-selling to the public?
16:06Because you've never sold at these prices.
16:08Where was it, £18.99?
16:09Jan really don't know about that.
16:10What about this?
16:11Don't know about that.
16:12I can change them for...
16:13Yeah, that's fine.
16:14Do you know, Lord Sugar takes honesty
16:16really incredibly seriously.
16:18Yeah.
16:20These candidates are misleading the public.
16:22They've never sold these products at these prices.
16:25Change your pricing structures.
16:27No problem with honesty.
16:28Change your signs.
16:29Yeah, not a problem.
16:30Selfie stick, £10.
16:32Frankly, I'm very disappointed.
16:34Lord Sugar will be even more disappointed.
16:41Guys, we've got selfie sticks,
16:42consumer electronics, leads, phone charges.
16:45Charging through sales of electronics...
16:48There is your receipt, sir.
16:49Thank you so much.
16:50And here are your portable speakers.
16:52Sam and Selena.
16:53Say cheese.
16:54Anyone got a smartphone, iPhone?
16:57You don't know what I'm going to say.
16:59Still to make a sale.
17:01Everyone wants to ignore me.
17:04Project manager, Scott.
17:06What do you do for £8? Fantastic.
17:08There we go. Thank you.
17:09Thank you very much.
17:10How are you doing? You all right?
17:12You don't know what I've got to say.
17:13I haven't even said anything.
17:14I can say I'm not interested.
17:16Yeah, yeah, whatever.
17:17I know Scott to be the best seller, probably in this whole process.
17:21So if he's having a bad day, then I'm happy to write it off.
17:24But if he's having a bad day tomorrow, perhaps I'd be less understanding.
17:27It is bad, but...
17:29Unfortunately, me and Sam picked up slack.
17:31Imagine if we were all shit.
17:33We have selfie sticks, chargers and all sorts of things.
17:38Thank you for acknowledging me.
17:446pm.
17:45I saw a tenner there.
17:47And you didn't want me to see it.
17:48You didn't want me to see it.
17:50One hour before the wholesalers close.
17:53There's one back there.
17:55Last chance to sniff out top sellers.
17:58Yeah.
17:59Do it, man. Get yourself a selfie stick.
18:02If I wasn't selling it, I'd be buying it.
18:04That's how good it is.
18:07Money, money, money, money, money.
18:08Time to collect takings.
18:10Just get what you can get with that.
18:11Number one is selfie sticks.
18:13Number two is mobile power bank.
18:14Yeah.
18:15And then number three is earphones.
18:16Yeah.
18:17So towels and paddling pools, no, no.
18:18The others are hot, yeah?
18:19Yeah.
18:20Guys, see you back at base.
18:21Go, Ivana.
18:22Yeah.
18:23I'm a little bit behind here.
18:24And restock for tomorrow's grand opening.
18:27You're going to have to win.
18:28Oh, receipt book.
18:32While Brett and Varna invest in more high-margin tech.
18:36$150, $60.
18:37A grand total of $267, $80.
18:40For Gary's team, it's a trolley dash.
18:45We've got a broad range of products which really appeal to the mass market.
18:49Four boxes of body butter.
18:50We've gone for the cheapest.
18:52One thing we are going to be tomorrow is value for money.
19:11Manchester Arndale.
19:13Home to over 200 stores.
19:20And for one day only.
19:23Discount Haven.
19:25It stands out, you know.
19:26I like it.
19:27It's the only yellow one here.
19:29And Manchester's discount store.
19:32Oh, that looks nice.
19:34Good spot, guys.
19:36Right.
19:37Should we get set up?
19:38First job.
19:39Gary.
19:40Unpack their delivery of big-name brands.
19:41Put something here as an impulse buy.
19:42Yeah.
19:43I've got the sweets.
19:44Yeah, we've got the sweets for that.
19:45Pushing for premium prices.
19:46Project manager Gary.
19:47Bathroom tissue.
19:48Cost price, £1.50.
19:49We'll go £3.
19:50We'll go £3 on that, yeah?
20:07The mint mouthwash, 86p.
20:09£2.
20:10Well over doubling the price on that one.
20:12Branded products should be at sacrificial prices to entice people into the shop.
20:18They haven't done that. They're doubling up. They're tripling up.
20:20Fizzy drink. Do you think you'd get $1.50 for them?
20:23Definitely. They've got to be $1.50. They're more premium.
20:26Well over doubling.
20:27The whole idea is to pile it high, sell it cheap.
20:30They haven't piled it high and they're not selling it cheap.
20:32The toothpaste, that was only 54p.
20:34You know what? Let's try it at $1.50.
20:40Upstairs.
20:41Self-telling wipes is £1. Gummy babies, £1.
20:45Setting out their branded products.
20:47Still water, £1. Orange energy drink, £1.20.
20:51Scott's team.
20:52Are we happy with that?
20:52Could we just make everything in this bin £1.50?
20:55£1.50.
20:57That's what I'd do, because then you've got bins specific, haven't you?
21:00I'm writing the cards now, so let me know a decision.
21:02OK. Right.
21:04It's not that hard.
21:05We just need to sell some products, whatever sells, we replenish,
21:09and then we sell more of.
21:10They always have baskets near the front, though,
21:12because they're a little, like, grabby in both sides.
21:13You wouldn't come in... Think of a shop.
21:15You wouldn't come in, grab, and then go shopping.
21:18God.
21:19Right, but you wouldn't have...
21:21Once the table's all set up, you'd have islands in the middle.
21:23Everybody has an opinion,
21:25but when you have too many voices in opinion,
21:27it makes it complicated.
21:28I just don't think that looks good.
21:30I think it's clear.
21:30Selina.
21:35What? I didn't touch it.
21:36We need to get on with it and get as many people in, work as a team.
21:39Every time I do something, somebody tries to take it over.
21:42That's what we need to do.
21:44Next for Scott.
21:46So we're going to have to split up into two teams today.
21:49Allocate roles.
21:50Me, Selina and Sam are staying in selling,
21:53and Brett and Varner are going out to get everyone in.
21:55Be that as it may, though,
21:56obviously, I don't want to have anything
21:58that's going to potentially be thrown back in our faces
22:01just because we've been out doing the marketing.
22:03It's going to be so vital to get customers into the shop.
22:05I know, but...
22:06But Sam, so why don't you go, dude?
22:08You know what I mean?
22:10Basically, if we're brought into a boardroom,
22:12everything's put down to what everybody's contributed.
22:14And numbers.
22:14It is massively cutthroat at the end of it.
22:16So for me, it's a bit of a...
22:18I think Scott is well aware
22:20that Brett and I are his best salespeople,
22:22and that is why he didn't want us competing with him in the store.
22:25OK, good luck, guys.
22:26Bye. Good luck, guys.
22:28I feel he's trying to set up
22:31who he could blame if this task doesn't go as planned.
22:36He put Sam, who's not even an experienced salesman in Selina,
22:39in the store.
22:39The thing is, at the end of the day, we flagged it up.
22:41It's fucking bullshit.
22:43Hi, sir, how are you?
22:44Do you want to come and look at our new discount store?
22:46Sir, yourself?
22:47No worries.
22:48Hi there.
22:519 a.m.
22:53Shops open for business.
22:55Do you want me to open a few of those diffusers?
22:58Yeah, just take a handful out and add to the presentation,
23:00and we've got our little beauty world then as well.
23:02Ignoring passing trade...
23:05What are we going to do?
23:05We're going to walk the customer journey.
23:07Gary shares the science of setting up shop.
23:10Let's walk the shop then.
23:12These have got to come inside.
23:13I want them in the centre as well,
23:15because it will form an orderly journey.
23:17It will stop people just being like ants.
23:18So this is our toilet world.
23:21Next, the house world.
23:23Does Jammie Dodgers go with washing powder?
23:27Right, guys, let's sell well.
23:29T-shirts, guys.
23:34Does this look a lot or does it look stupid?
23:36It looks stupid.
23:36It looks like it.
23:39Hey!
23:41Open for business.
23:42Open for business.
23:45Discount Haven.
23:47Teams have eight hours to tempt shoppers.
23:50Discount Haven.
23:52You should check it out.
23:52Right over there next to Ann Summers.
23:55We've got some beauty products like fake tan.
23:58We've got some impulse body spray.
23:59There's a drink as well.
24:00You've got your bag.
24:01Do you want to pop in and have a look
24:03at the discount store this morning?
24:04No.
24:05At Gary's store...
24:07Let me tell you what this is all about.
24:10Come and let me show you what products you are.
24:1130 seconds.
24:12How are you doing?
24:13Soak.
24:14High mark-ups mean low sales.
24:17Just £2.
24:19No?
24:20Are you sure?
24:22Mouthwash, £2.
24:23Absolute bargain.
24:24I'm all in, too.
24:26I'm livid.
24:27Is there anything you're interested in today?
24:29Almost next door,
24:31you've got the UK's largest discounter
24:33at prices that are a fraction
24:36of what these fools are charging.
24:38They're only selling for a pound, are they?
24:39Where are we shop?
24:40They get a pounder.
24:43Are they?
24:43They're selling them for a pounder at the moment.
24:45Right, OK.
24:49I'll get the fishing rod out.
24:51Come on.
24:53Trying to reel in passing trade.
24:56Marketing man Richard.
24:58We're Manchester's newest discount store.
25:00I've even got a T-shirt saying it.
25:02It means it's true.
25:03People won't just walk into a shop randomly.
25:06Come with me.
25:06I skate.
25:07I know that being out the front
25:09is actually the most important thing in this job.
25:11You're wasting your energy.
25:13I've got lots of energy to waste, though.
25:16That's why I made sure that I was part of it.
25:18Hiya, madam.
25:19How are you doing?
25:20We are Manchester's newest discount store.
25:23Also out to drum up business.
25:27Oh, no.
25:29Disco store.
25:30Brett and Barna.
25:31Yeah, the store looks good.
25:32It looks like they are very organised.
25:36It looks like their set up is much cleaner.
25:38Obviously, they've got the colour of toys.
25:39Look at Richard.
25:41Hiya, madam.
25:41What is he doing?
25:44I'm an ice skater.
25:45How are you?
25:47What was that?
25:48That was terrifying.
25:49I can't see you two doing anything.
25:51Hello, madam.
25:51No, mate.
25:52I don't need to because I'd rather not do anything
25:53and dance like that.
25:54That was embarrassing.
25:56Hiya, madam.
25:57How are you doing?
25:58He so reminds me of David Brent.
26:00You're walking so fast.
26:03Hi, guys.
26:04Hi, guys.
26:04How are you getting on?
26:04I'd say mediocre.
26:06Back at base.
26:08What I notice about Versatiles is that theirs is all up front,
26:11so when the customers come in,
26:12they're just kind of congregating around the front area.
26:15A tactical rethink.
26:17Pull all these baskets out the front
26:19and bang them out for a pound.
26:21Yeah.
26:22Stop keeping it in here.
26:23Draw them in.
26:25OK, is this iron selling?
26:27Uh, no.
26:27I think push them forward.
26:29If you cut bland items in the front,
26:31people are just going to keep on walking past.
26:33People can't really see them.
26:34Can we just run with that strategy?
26:35People are not buying that product.
26:38I want that stuff in there.
26:42Speak to me like that again.
26:43At the end of the day...
26:44I want that stuff.
26:45That's boring.
26:46Yeah, yeah.
26:46I would like that stuff in that.
26:49That's fine.
26:51Everyone thinks their ideas are the best,
26:53and it has to be that way.
26:55Everyone's annoying me in some aspect.
26:57Sam, you stay here.
26:58Me and yourself will go out,
27:00and Vana and Brett, you stay here.
27:02All right, we're going to ask some more stuff.
27:05It's a little bit of a circus act, to be honest with you.
27:08Right there.
27:10Can I show you something?
27:11Can I just quickly show you something?
27:15On the other team...
27:16We've also got some beautiful...
27:17Right now, I'm just kidding.
27:19Need some kitchen, Mel?
27:21...with high-priced goods slow to shift...
27:23Come and have a little look.
27:25Go on.
27:26I think we need to do some sort of, like, bargain buy.
27:29I really do.
27:30Just to get a lot of the stuff sold.
27:32From Joseph, a plan to secure sales.
27:35What about if we say £5 for the bag,
27:37take five items all in one?
27:38I like the idea.
27:39We'll give it a go, yeah?
27:40All right, cheers, mate.
27:40Half wash, a toothpaste...
27:43That was only £50.
27:44...a can of drink.
27:45Cool.
27:46Jam biscuits?
27:46Yeah, we did.
27:47Then I was thinking the kitchen bowl.
27:49OK.
27:49Special offers, sorted.
27:53Do you want one of those manager specials for £5?
27:55Who wants?
27:56Yes, you're making the manager very happy.
28:04At Scott's Electrical Store...
28:07There you go, madam.
28:08Your receipts in there, both receipts.
28:09We have selfie sticks, we have portable phone chargers,
28:12hand blenders.
28:13Just come take a look.
28:14No harm in that, right?
28:16After a staffing reshuffle, a surge in sales.
28:20There's that one and that one.
28:22It was very quiet this morning.
28:24What's your name?
28:25Brett and Varner have come into the store
28:27and things have really picked up.
28:29They're great salespeople.
28:30Cherry.
28:31Yeah, well done.
28:32It's Jelly Belly Very Cherry Body Wash.
28:34Try saying that after a couple of drinks.
28:36Come in.
28:36They're charming people into the store
28:38and they're selling.
28:41The problem is Sam.
28:43He's been in the store all day.
28:45He's had far more opportunity than anyone else to sell
28:47and yet Brett and Varner have turned up
28:49and they're already outshining him.
28:51Self-tan wipes, they're really good.
28:53Do I look like I need a tan?
28:54Well, no, to be fair.
28:56Let's be serious.
28:57He didn't have a good day yesterday.
28:59He messed all the figures up
29:00and he's lost his way again today.
29:03Oh, shut up.
29:05Wow.
29:09Screw that.
29:10Lunchtime.
29:16We have Manchester's newest discount store.
29:19For Gary's team, with prices down...
29:22So we've got ourselves a deal on some oven cleaner for £2.
29:25Yeah?
29:25Yeah.
29:26Come on then, let's get that sorted.
29:28Takings are up.
29:30Here you go, guys.
29:31Selfie sticks, guys.
29:32It's so beautiful.
29:34I think it's very interesting.
29:36It's very interesting.
29:37For Scott...
29:39We need to get loads of new stock,
29:41see what they've sold.
29:42Hi, guys.
29:43Hey, guys.
29:44A plan to reinvest takings in more tech.
29:47What is it that we are selling the best of?
29:49Portable phone chargers as the best seller by miles.
29:52Headphones are selling pretty well.
29:54Me and yourself.
29:55We'll go replenish the stock.
29:58Can I just say?
29:58Yes.
29:58Go for it.
29:59I've been brought out of the store at the busiest time,
30:02and now you're taking me away from the store again,
30:04so it's the same thing that you guys mentioned earlier about sales.
30:06It's not fair because it's going to reflect it.
30:08And I sold the most yesterday.
30:09Okay, you did sell the most yesterday,
30:10but this morning you didn't.
30:13Whatever.
30:14Yeah, guys.
30:15Okay, all right.
30:17This is horrendous.
30:19Oh, my gosh.
30:21We're just humiliating in front of everyone.
30:22This morning it wasn't busy here,
30:24but they've now got the busiest time,
30:26which we're not going to get credited for,
30:27so I don't want to be in the firing line
30:29for not selling.
30:30Selena, all she does is complain and talk negatively.
30:34We had to be fair for Brett and Barna,
30:35and now we're not being fair for me.
30:37And she doesn't actually contribute.
30:38She just talks about what she could be doing.
30:41So I'm happy that she's gone.
30:42At Manchester's discount store...
30:54Gary?
30:56...a more relaxed approach to reinvestment from Gary.
31:00As you can see, this place is getting really busy.
31:04This is certainly not the time for Gary
31:05to be working out what stock is required.
31:08He should have done that much, much earlier.
31:10Do you want these all in different bags, then?
31:11We've got two bags.
31:12Oh, you have?
31:14Cash in the till doesn't earn you money.
31:15You've got to replenish the stock frequently.
31:18Gary?
31:19Yes, mate?
31:20Can I have you for a second, please?
31:21Ten seconds.
31:21It's pretty important, mate.
31:23As a project manager, Gary's a little bit lost at the moment.
31:26I can't really see him.
31:27Gary?
31:28Yeah?
31:28I need you again, mate, please.
31:30Every time I turn around, he's not there,
31:32or he's hiding in the back.
31:33Gary?
31:34Everyone want to buy any Maltesers or, well, body wash or anything?
31:43No?
31:44Sorry, I'll talk to myself.
31:473.30pm.
31:49You all right?
31:50Yeah, good, thanks, yeah.
31:51Armed with more stock...
31:54I've got a strategy, which I think we need to do now.
31:58..a positive charge from project manager Scott.
32:01We want to get rid of everything that we can...
32:04Definitely.
32:04..for more of the pricing paid for it, even if it's a pound.
32:07Scott has not had an easy day.
32:09On these, just make a massive shout at the fact they're two quid.
32:12Yeah, mate, I'll stop.
32:13We finish at the end of the day.
32:14Two pounds, two pounds, like, let's get rid of these.
32:16But he's not giving up.
32:18He's gone off, he's replenished the stock.
32:19Let's really hit home, let's get rid of all of this
32:22and let's just keep on selling, yeah?
32:23Yeah, we'll do it.
32:24Bye, guys, how are you doing today?
32:25Check out our...
32:25He's motivating people and he is continuing to try.
32:28We've got sweets here, two for £1.50.
32:30Who's coming into Bargain Haven?
32:32Come on in and have a look at what we've got.
32:34Rock-button prices.
32:38Just two hours...
32:40I just think you should go sooner rather than later.
32:42..till trading ends.
32:44We need to replenish the stocks now, yeah?
32:46Myself and David, we're going to get there and back
32:48as quick as possible.
32:51Restocking at the end of the day.
32:52You've got rush hour coming up to the end.
32:55People are leaving the shopping mall.
32:57This is where they're going to spend the most money.
33:00OK, let's go.
33:02Hopefully it's not cost us the task.
33:06With shelves freshly stocked...
33:08Get rid of absolutely everything in the store.
33:11Profits pile in discount haven.
33:14It's £10, yeah.
33:16If you've got contactless, I can do contactless.
33:18Which do you prefer, the red or the white?
33:19I like the white better, personally.
33:23Thanks, Lisa. Bye.
33:27What's going on, mate?
33:28Less than one hour to go.
33:32Let's get the products out.
33:33Be stuck in on the toys.
33:35So four and three, I'll bring it down to six.
33:38Prices tumble.
33:39Last-minute price drop.
33:41You'd be a fool to miss out on these deals.
33:43We've got about half an hour left in our store.
33:45We've got rock-bottom prices and everything.
33:47That's where all the portable device charge has gone.
33:49Eight, nine, ten.
33:50We'll call it £11.
33:52I'll do two for 18.
33:53Oh, that is a bargain.
33:55Right?
33:55Guys, we've got five minutes left to trade in.
33:58£2.
33:58Come on, quickly, though.
33:59Your life will change if you have this.
34:01Nice one.
34:02Thank you very much.
34:04£2.
34:04We're literally just shutting down.
34:085.30pm.
34:10OK, guys, we've finished trading.
34:12Well done.
34:13Well done.
34:13Tonight, assets will be added up.
34:16Well done, guys.
34:16Top effort.
34:17What a crazy shop.
34:19Crazy shop.
34:20Crazy prices.
34:21Let's call it a day.
34:23Tomorrow, the boardroom.
34:25You can go through to the boardroom now.
34:29You can go through to the boardroom now.
34:47Good morning.
35:05Good morning.
35:06Good morning.
35:06Good morning, everybody.
35:07Good morning, everyone.
35:07Good morning.
35:07Good morning, everybody.
35:09Good morning.
35:09Well, this task was to try to replicate a discount store.
35:16Nothing too complicated here.
35:18Buy it, sell it, replenish your stocks.
35:21that's what this was all about when i was a young man at 17 and a bit years old i just took some
35:26money bought some stuff as i was selling it bought some more stuff and by the end of that day i'd
35:33earned more money than i earned in a month in the last job i had dead simple right who wants to talk
35:40to me first i'll go if you want you put yourself forward as the project manager that right i did
35:46indeed yes you're of course work for a massive retailer absolutely so i wanted to focus on
35:52affordable gifts charlene and joseph did a great job in terms of negotiating a price with the
35:57wholesaler and they actually not only got five percent off on the first day but what was great
36:02uh excuse me that wasn't the first call was it five percent no it wasn't what we was proposing
36:07well yeah i was proposing almost uh buy one get one free what planet are we all on here wholesalers
36:13notoriously have very very small margins to have thoughts of getting 50 off which is what claude
36:19told me it was very informal negotiation actually must have been very important charlene that's
36:25exactly how you opened up you wanted two for the price of one yeah yeah i did dim so it wasn't it
36:29wasn't flipping it was serious right move along you're on the stalls now and the key to this was to
36:38smell what we're selling um so how did you do richard and charlene did a fantastic job and they
36:44actually sailed out with all the products you went for the scented candles yes body butter yes and
36:51diffuses yes sounds like a night in for you valentine now you're going from a stall environment out in
36:59the street into a shopping center yeah working in shops just wanted to make sure that it was slick
37:04operationally good bargains at the front of the store bring people in but then we wanted different
37:08worlds so we had the toilet world the household world the gift world the toilet world strategically
37:14placing stuff in the right place the journey around the store that's right yes you sound like a retailer
37:20now here's well i don't think you were that clever the branded products yes okay so if you recognize
37:27something that you're used to buying at the front of somewhere and you see it at a price
37:32lower than you are used to paying yeah it implies that you must have bargains in your shop and
37:39therefore i will come in and explore the rest right correct the only problem is you were down the
37:44road to some famous pound shop and you were more expensive yeah there was a few items that we started
37:50like three four five pound and we actually reduced them it didn't take a rocket scientist to work
37:55that out does it no no no um you two were uh pulling people in yeah that's right the big thing that we
38:01need to do is actually get people into the shop it's fair to say they did whatever it took you sound
38:06like the most successful double act since the chuckle brothers um replenishing of stocks you went
38:15into about three o'clock i understand and business stops at 5 30 didn't it yeah gary it's fair to say
38:21you missed a trick okay i'll get the logic and i accept that take that on board all right so good
38:27cooperation from your people here no it's fantastic can't fault them okay now let's move over to
38:33connexus scott you put yourself forward is that right i did yeah just because of my previous sales
38:38experience i thought out of the team i was probably best suited to leading this task so yeah on the first
38:44day we account with the the electronics so we found uh six products and it was apparent with where our
38:51first location oh hang on a minute i think you've forgotten something you went in quite prepared at
38:55the warehouse didn't you yeah but you'd made a mistake at the till hadn't you sam yeah we had so i was in
39:01charge of doing the costings it was quite embarrassing sam was sort of crawling around on
39:05the floor with his calculator and it wasn't it wasn't my finest moment you you tutor kids don't you for a
39:10living yeah yeah do you want to get them to tutor you with a bit of maths it's yeah maths is not my
39:15strong point no i'm not asking you to embark upon integral calculus here am i no it wasn't it wasn't
39:20a population this is how much these things cost them you add it up and that's it yeah right move
39:26along you're on the stalls and how'd you get on you and selena and sam so firstly these two done
39:32amazing and they were selling really really well i didn't sell as great that day um i don't know if it
39:37was my mojo but um didn't quite get back into my best day was it no it wasn't it wasn't and brett and
39:43varna you weren't having a good time i come up with an idea of highlighting the items of what we had
39:48with the was price and now price yeah karen quickly uh it's a bit dodgy that you know was 1999 you can
39:55have it now for nine and all that stuff you can't make false statements something has to be on sale for
40:00at least 28 days before you can start saying and you were on sale for 28 seconds varna was you part of
40:07that or you're going to plead the fifth amendment hmm all right so we're now on to the day at the
40:15retail outlet people were concerned about making sure i was seen to be doing some selling i think
40:21the dynamics has started to change as we're going through the process to more of individual selling
40:27rather than teamwork it starts moving i think we're just conscious of it now when you get to the um the
40:32integrity at the end there is statistics raised on your performance it's a very honest answer i have
40:37to say because what you're saying is is that you're preparing yourself in case of loss we've all managed
40:42to get this far through the process and everyone's got to self-preservate you should get addiction in
40:46some of the words you come out with i've never heard of self-preservate point i'm making is is the
40:51thrust of this task was not about individuals sales numbers this was a task of building a business
40:57and in fact if the manager came into this boardroom today and hadn't sold anything to me it wouldn't
41:03bother me one little bit now later on during the day there was a discussion about you wanting to
41:09move uh products to the front of the stock including these irons that you bought it seemed if we put more
41:14energy in a certain product they sold so what we want to do was maybe highlight that brett didn't
41:19agree did you brett i knew they wasn't selling i knew the other items were i think scott had said
41:23something and i said look don't speak to me like that it wasn't pleasant though was it no the whole
41:27situation wasn't pleasant currently everyone was getting a little bit i think there's a heated
41:31heated moment of just everyone just having a guy vomiting just too many voices and stuff yeah
41:41good project manager yeah i think it was a difficult task for him but generally i like working with scott
41:48okay well i think we've heard enough here let's see how we did and how
41:52the assets would have grown in both companies here so current let me know about connexus please
41:58well as you know alan that you gave them 500 pounds to start off with
42:01and uh at the end of the trading period they had cash in their till of 592 pounds and 30 pence
42:08and the value of their stock was 369 pounds 74 pence so the total value of the business uh was 962
42:16pounds and four pence right claude same thing for versatile well versatile also started with
42:21500 500 pounds but they only had 497 pound 55 in there till at close of play
42:30the value of their stock however was 1013 pounds 52 so the total value of their business was 1511
42:36pounds and seven pence
42:38so you made over a thousand pounds in the course of this exercise very good
42:48well you're the top of the asset list at the moment and for this week's treat i'm going to send
42:53you to the top of london's most iconic building it's called the shard and you'll be able to toast your
43:00success with the vip champagne experience so well done and i'll see you on the next task thank you thank you
43:09so look you'll need to go away and we'll come back and we'll discuss it in greater detail okay
43:25thanks thanks thanks all jure
43:33oh wow wow that's awesome look at that can you see the house
43:41so where we live is right by the bt tower there so do you fancy when you move to uh london getting a
43:47place around there yeah not with you though rich put my neck on the line in terms of being project manager
43:55lord sugar said in the boardroom i was a classic retailer cheers to us guys come on
44:01what we say in our industry retails detail and that's exactly what i showed seeing that we're
44:06the tallest building in europe and then you're the tallest amongst us you are now currently the highest
44:10thing in europe europe i thought this task was about individual sales i don't know where we
44:24got that from and it wasn't blaming brett for having brought that up in the first
44:28fun i'm not blaming anyone i think it's a valid point because i also started thinking about it
44:31exactly but i'm just the one that always says i'm not blaming either of you yeah but everyone else
44:35i agree with you in the boardroom no but i agree i think selena is at the core
44:40of why this task failed because we didn't work together as a team if it was up to me selena deserves
44:45to be fired above everyone else in this process this is a perfect example now exactly of exactly
44:51where we went wrong just what we're just doing now but everyone's here as an individual despite
44:56the fact i'm always one to say well this is what i'm saying we might be here as an individual but
45:00you're stronger force as a team i think the dynamics have changed a lot in the process and now people
45:06are very much individual everyone's just trying to cover their ass to be honest before we even
45:10thought about winning the task there were so many voices with so many opinions and i was like i don't
45:14want to be part of all this arguing i just want to get out and i just want to sell sam isn't interested
45:18in helping anyone else or communicating with anyone else if there's ever a case of selfishness
45:23in terms of teamwork there it is
45:40yes sir trigger can you send the candidates in place yes sir trigger you can go through to the
45:51right well scott it sounds to me less of a pop-up shop more more like a cock-up shop quite frankly
46:13with terms of the team itself we over complicated every aspect of every part of the task
46:20i just didn't perform i didn't feel good at any part of the task and i think the dynamics have
46:25started to change in this process where it's more about individual kind of perspective what you might
46:30think the thing is is if your team wins you know that's it you go back to the house don't you and
46:34you come into the next task yeah selena according to karen it was non-stop droning moaning to him
46:43i don't think that's true i mean certainly i was upset it is true okay but can i just say that
46:49brett and varna weren't happy working on the sub team canvassing because they wanted their time
46:52to no we did just say hang on hang on i'm not finished she's not talking about anything else
46:58i'm getting to that vana that created a real problem amongst the team because it stopped
47:02everybody thinking about a team and it started making everybody think about their individual
47:05sales selena was constantly complaining moaning being completely negative and she really brought
47:10down the morale of the team varna i don't think you can blame everything on me you guys didn't listen
47:14you ignored everything that scott asked you to do joe i will back that up as well i mean not so
47:18much you varna i mean you two guys didn't really listen to anything i had to say you know we've
47:23got arguments um brett and sam you can look at me how you want but i don't feel like he was really
47:28listening to me sam you you're stuck inside the shop all day long right yeah you have nothing else
47:34to do the only other thing you did you messed up on calculations yet again i have visions of you
47:40just going through the motions i have to completely disagree obviously the calculations i i messed
47:45up i'll hold my hands up to that in terms of selling saying that i was in the shop doing nothing
47:49all day is is ludicrous i think it's about attitude and my attitude was positive i wanted to
47:55yeah i i don't completely agree with the whole positive thing because i don't do you know i don't
47:59actually particularly like working with you sam where was you helping other people and the team
48:03and stuff that you're talking about now you're part of this as much as everybody else absolutely and
48:07i don't think you're passing the buck to other people no i don't i don't think so scott you you
48:11were so positive you were the one that decided to keep me in the shop because you had a good
48:14energy on selling it's fair enough i'm trying to win this as a team as well absolutely and i want as
48:19much sales as possible and you just said i had good energy for the team yeah selling but it doesn't
48:23mean it's about teamwork it's about individual sales but as a team did you work i don't think so
48:29i don't think there was enough of a strategy and a lot of the decisions i felt were made on a whim
48:34couldn't agree more fully with varna i think there are two reasons for the failure of this task
48:38one was team energy and spirit and i feel that selena is largely at fault there she spends a lot
48:44of her time retrospectively complaining which i don't think is conducive to teamwork and i think
48:48the second reason for the for the failure of this task is a lack of strategy and i agree with
48:52varna i think i don't see any strategy from you either if you're finished them i'd like to speak up
48:57actually i'm not gonna make personal comments about other people on the team i do think there's some very
49:01selfish people here that don't take responsibility for things they may have done and they like to
49:05point the finger at others it's difficult for me to work in that environment and i probably shouldn't
49:08be so sensitive to it but i wanted to do well and you know you've got sensitivity in another task
49:14can't just go throwing a wobbly all the time when things are not going your way i completely agree with
49:19you but i know it's no good agreeing with me it's a case of you know how many more times we're going
49:23to have to put up with this trait brett supply and demand that's what this is all about okay
49:30so look i'm demanding the answers and you better bloody will supply them as far as i'm concerned
49:35okay you heard what these others have said now speak up for yourself then tell me um to be honest
49:41scott on the first day started with massively good intentions however it didn't work and i think with
49:46the pressure building on scott's shoulders wrong decisions were made and it failed for the rest of the
49:50day scott who you bringing back into this boardroom
49:56it's quite tough but i'm going to bring back sam and brett
50:07okay ladies off you go back to the house
50:10right you three gentlemen i've expressed of my disappointment of the lack of business nows
50:26i'm going to have a chat with karen and claude at least one of you are going to be leaving today okay off you
50:32go
50:40brett i mean he's a grafter he's a bit aggressive a bit inflexible and i think he can start an argument
50:47just by being by himself sam is he out of his depth here there were times when i was watching him
50:52where i didn't think he knew what was going on he openly admits that he's not very good at numbers
50:57which is not a good thing if you're going into business scott he's a smart fellow but for some
51:03reason he did not pull this thing together we can all have bad days the point of this process is to
51:09decide how many bad days this is the second time he's fouled as the project manager
51:14what's going on he's going on he's going on he's going on he's going on he's going on he's going on he's going on
51:20yes rochelle can you send the three of them in please yes rochelle
51:25rochelle will see you now
51:37scott yeah why did you bring brett back in here
51:41things have to be done in his way uh if not he does get i would say aggressive but he's very
51:46bullish so brett you know being in the navy i mean would you think in this process you've started
51:51a few mutinies um to be honest a little trigger i don't think people like to hear honesty sometimes
51:56yes me and scott bumped heads in the shop didn't look the way in which he spoke to me however i still
52:01done what he had asked there's a certain way to deal with things okay you might not have agreed
52:04with how i spoke to you yeah but it just escalated yeah i understand you said you'll smash my face in
52:10i didn't say that i said don't speak to me he said you'll smash my face in huh he didn't say
52:14that's good that's not fair he didn't say he said you'll smash my face in don't talk about that
52:19he didn't say that he said if you talk to me like that again and then it just ended it stopped
52:26scott you did make reference about moving stuck and obviously i did try to verbalize the fact that i
52:31don't think that's a good idea yeah okay but what i'm saying is in especially in business a certain
52:35way of reacting to things and okay the smash your facing thing maybe i've got that wrong i thought i
52:41heard that sam i'm looking for a business partner somebody who i'm going to invest 250 000 pounds in
52:51i and indeed karen and claude we're a bit concerned that perhaps you know you may have reached the end of
52:59the road here i've been trying throughout this process to prove that i i do have business acumen
53:05and that i i am a credible business candidate it would upset me if that's not coming across because
53:10i feel like i have been a good candidate are you here to win an investment yeah absolutely
53:15because i really fundamentally believe in my business plan if i was lucky enough to get to the
53:19stage where my business plan will be looked at i think you'll see that it's an incredibly good
53:23business plan and i run a business i've never run a business i am self-employed so i know what it is to
53:29work well you're self-employed because you're tutoring youngsters uh uh particularly i think in
53:33english isn't it um all manner of subjects i teach not not maths now uh scott why shouldn't i fire you
53:41as the least successful manager since david moyes in manchester i think consistently throughout the
53:47whole process i've put in a lot of my effort and i've achieved a lot of good things and i've
53:52i've achieved so yeah yeah okay but i think that i've had a big part out of play especially in
53:58sales on this occasion i just it was quite difficult your head's gone your what's this mojo you keep
54:05referring to i found quite quickly that this team was going to be hard to manage my worry is that if
54:10you say i was worried about managing this team do you think that potentially that had a negative
54:14impact throughout it was like a self-fulfilling prophecy yeah okay but i'm not here to hold
54:18everybody's hand at all times who should get fired today then to be honest with the way that it's
54:23gone at the moment i reckon scott should be fired scott i personally think that sam should be fired
54:29you're not here for a serious business you're just you haven't seen my business plan how dare
54:34you sit there and say that i just right okay i think it's outrageous how many times you've been
54:39back in the last three scott twice project manager twice yeah how many times you've been back in the
54:44twice and you three no lord sugar here's statistics for you
54:53on this particular task there were deliberate things set for you to show me grasp pick up but you
55:00didn't scott your performance in this particular task this leads me to think that maybe there's a lack
55:09of consistency it puts into doubt your ability to remain
55:17sam the last time he was in this position it was that close that you were going and to be perfectly
55:25frank with you i left you in the process because i thought well look give this chap another chance
55:34but brett i'm not sure whether i can deal with someone as blunt as straightforward that clearly
55:44alienates people it's regretful that i have to say i have concluded
55:55that sam you're fired thank you thank you thank you
56:17i'm going to give you another chance okay you two go back to the house all right thank you much
56:38so throughout this process i've been really clear that integrity is key
57:01scott was taking a very deplorable tact in the boardroom and i don't think that's a good quality in
57:05anyone why did you text sammy obviously he did the numbers wrong scott just said he found him a
57:12little bit difficult to work with you were the one who said that a lot actually no i didn't scott said it
57:19oh my god sam's gone well done mate it was uh quite brutal it wasn't a very nice experience
57:27obviously scott's took me back in there as someone who's not necessarily classed as a team player
57:32no no no no it's not about team and stuff i just said we clashed heads a few times yesterday your
57:36dominant force leave the last task at the door it's happened no matter how much you might trust
57:42someone and think that your mate it's doggy dog
57:50now nine candidates remain lord sugar's search for his next business partner continues
57:57next time this next task is all about party planning
58:05two birthdays to put on is there any no-no's i've got enough energy we're having a disaster you're
58:11breaking my heart 20 kids to entertain i don't have children and i don't like them we need to get the
58:16atmosphere going in out in that one day all about but in the boardroom first rule of party planning is
58:22don't poison the client just one party pooper it's certainly memorable taking mum out on a bleeding
58:28stretcher you're fine i can't wait but in the meantime jack d meets this week's boardroom victim
58:36sam you're fired over on bbc2 now do you see yourself as lord sugar's next business partner you can apply
58:45online go to bbc.co.uk slash apprentice and if you missed the apprentice children in need star wars
58:51exclusive it's available to watch now on iplayer
