Senior ANU lecturer accuses Julie Bishop of bullying, intimidation

Australian National University senior lecturer Liz Allen and has detailed times she felt 'violated' and intimidated by chancellor Julie Bishop.

00:00So, I resigned from ANU Council in April, having lost confidence in the leadership.

00:08I was deeply troubled by Council releasing misleading public statements and the dismissal of community concerns.

00:16ANU leaders behave with impunity, keep Council in the dark, and fail to adequately disclose conflicts.

00:24Vice-Chancellor Bell has misled Council on numerous occasions.

00:28Since 2024, I've experienced threats, intimidation and bullying because I sought greater probity of Council conduct.

00:39I was bullied into near-suicide.

00:47I miscarried a much-wanted baby.

00:53I've lost the opportunity of a promotion.

00:56I fear for my job.

00:59And my career has been derailed.

01:02I was first elected to Council under the previous Vice-Chancellor and again under the current one.

01:09I was excited for the new leadership.

01:13I believe Chancellor Bishop is hostile and arrogant to staff.

01:18The previous Vice-Chancellor, Brian Schmidt, kept the Chancellor's behaviour in check.

01:23When the current Vice-Chancellor began, my union affiliation became a source of differential treatment.

01:31I was excluded from a change management session at the August 2024 Council meeting.

01:36My exclusion was later acknowledged to be unnecessary...
