00:00Welcome everyone to another short film review. Today we will be going over Less Than Human,
00:06which will be going into some interesting topics that I didn't really think about until I saw this
00:11story. Go make sure to watch it first, I will have it linked in the description and then come back
00:17for the review itself. It's a short six minute watch. So now, let's get into it. We begin with
00:24the reporter, Steve, talking about an attack that happened which was the first of its kind in five
00:30years since the cure was distributed. And as he talks, we get to see what the cured ones are.
00:36They are undead zombies that seem to have been quarantined off, but have their mental faculties
00:42and can converse like a normal person. Andy introduces himself, saying he has been there
00:48for six years, but gets interrupted by Don coming into the room. And he kind of freezes seeing that
00:55he is being filmed. We cut to them after they get in position to get interviewed, with Andy taking
01:01his new life pretty well. But Don is extremely frustrated, since he used to be a high level
01:07realtor, but I'm guessing the zombie plague ruined any chance of him having a normal life. Andy hates
01:14that he is just doing mundane things around the apartment they live in, and he starts to blow up
01:20at Andy since, in his words, he couldn't understand what he had. Seeing how rough it is going, Steve runs
01:28out of the house, but his cameraman stays behind to film. Andy is of course hurt by this, and runs off
01:34to his room, with Don regretting what he just did. He starts to talk softly, asking Andy to come back
01:41out, but he doesn't answer. So he brings out his harmonica that Andy mentioned before, and plays a
01:47nice melody on it, bringing Andy out as they share a tender look. Which is then interrupted by Steve
01:54coming back in to get the cameraman, because he has the keys to the car. The final scene is Steve
02:01talking about how what they just filmed was a sign that reintegration is not possible for the cured
02:07ones, ending the film. Fuck this guy! So let's talk about the characters first, starting with Steve.
02:16Honestly, I think he came into this being very biased against the cured ones. With how he reported
02:22on the attack, I at least think he was implying that the cured still had a need to kill humans,
02:30and then he tries to antagonize them by asking if they still had any cravings or urges since they
02:36had been cured. And with how the animation ended, he will pile on more of the propaganda that they
02:42are still mindless zombies underneath their human-like demeanor. Next, I want to talk about Andy. He seems
02:49to be an optimist, looking on the bright side of their situation and enjoying the little things in
02:54life. He seemed to be happy and excited to see humans at the apartment, and it kind of saddens me
03:02that he calls them human, subtly telling us that him and probably the rest of the cured that live
03:09there don't consider themselves human anymore. And then the star of the animation for me is Don.
03:15He is what I think most people would be in this situation. He is fed up with being cooped up in this
03:22apartment for five to six years. He feels like he was cheated out of a good life because of the zombie
03:29plague that happened. And on top of everything, he has no legs and has to roll around on an office
03:35chair, while the people on the outside don't even see him as a person anymore. I'd be pretty pissed in
03:41this kind of situation as well, to be honest, and I'm not a very angry person. His relationship with
03:48Andy though is very sweet. I did sense there may be romance, but it also could be that they have been
03:56living together for a few years now. But hey, if you want to see them like that, I'm not gonna stop
04:01you. It's Pride Month after all. Andy is a toss-up if he is gay, but he may just be a feminine man who
04:09is in touch with his feelings. So stepping away from characters, they did do a decent amount of
04:15world building in the few minutes that they had. So of course they had some kind of small zombie
04:21plague, and I say that because the rest of the world seems to be fine and functioning.
04:27Eventually, they found a cure for it, but it didn't kill the zombies, it gave them back their
04:33sentience and got rid of any urges to attack people. Of course, even though this happened,
04:40people are still going to be afraid of beings like this, and I can't imagine they smell very well
04:46either. But they are here to stay, since giving them a cure seems to also have stopped them from
04:51rotting, since they never mention anything about it. The government seems to have also gave them
04:57their own private centers to live in, since they are probably still running tests on them. And it's
05:02probably for their own protection too, since we see a lot of hateful messages on the walls surrounding
05:09the area. With the attack Steve was reporting on was probably someone like Don, someone that just
05:15reached a breaking point and attacked a government employee, causing more panic on the news, with
05:21people probably thinking all of the cured will eventually go back to their human eating ways.
05:28But even with all that, we got a sweet little story with Andy and Don. With this animation sticking
05:34out in my head for probably 7 or 8 years now, because I think I saw it within a year of it coming
05:40out. So this was a nice little movie review, and I am glad I can check it off my list now. If you guys
