00:00I don't know, I think Grayson's going more for form than function.
00:03Here's a look at McFarlane Toys, DC Multiverse, McFarlane Toys Digital, the new Teen Titans, Nightwing.
00:25A youthful version of the Justice League, the Teen Titans featured Robin as the leader from the Offset.
00:30In the 1980s, when the title was relaunched with new characters, Robin grew more independent than ever, living in Titan's Tower and later changing his codename to Nightwing.
00:39Nightwing proves you, in fact, can protect a city with a popped collar.
00:42Before we get a closer look at the new Teen Titans, Nightwing, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:47Lucky to find this so soon, and I actually grabbed this. Hold on there.
00:51I was lucky enough to actually find this on the Facebook selling group from Popeye the Toy Man.
00:55If you'd like to check out his current wares, you can click the link down below in the video description.
00:58In the meantime, though, Nightwing's going to stand at 7 inches in height.
01:02Yeah, he is. Or the figure's going to be 18 centimeters tall.
01:05Now, I swear to you, I've seen this body somewhere before.
01:09Then I pulled out my Dead Man, and actually, the more that I look at the two,
01:12while realizing, obviously, that in the contest of popped collars, no one can really beat Dead Man's,
01:17they are, in fact, looking like they are using the exact same body.
01:20Nightwing's collar just isn't as extreme.
01:22I have a couple of Nightwing's also as well we can bring in for examples.
01:26This was the original Nightwing. It's still a fine-looking figure.
01:29Also, as well, we got ourselves a Teen Titans release of him.
01:33This was actually part of the Build the Beast Boy wave.
01:35And we also got the Court of the Owls Nightwing.
01:37Now, I know there's been a lot more Nightwing's.
01:39There, in fact, also was a Nightfall version of Nightwing,
01:43although not quite really the same style of costume,
01:46completely different body and different head sculpt altogether.
01:48Now, we don't really have a whole lot of classic Teen Titans just yet,
01:52so I'm going to bring at least the ones in we got from the Build the Beast Boy wave,
01:55just if I can get her to stand.
01:57There's what the figure looks like with Raven, Donna Troy.
02:01And I hope, though, that if we are getting a classic Nightwing,
02:05that we are also going to be getting eventually some more Teen Titans in the classic costumes.
02:08And here's also what the figure looks like with Arsenal.
02:10What do we have to work with?
02:12Well, first, the figure does come include with a display stand.
02:15We just recently, in fact, looked at No Man's Land Batman,
02:17and it had an exact same style of stand,
02:19because, of course, that one was also McFarlane Toys Digital.
02:22Could that also mean, Magic Storyteller, that you have yourself a scratch card?
02:25I sure do.
02:27It's right over there.
02:30We're going to get to that in a second.
02:31Yeah, as though, going back to the display stand,
02:34it does have, again, the peg.
02:35It can plug into either one.
02:36Either one.
02:37Not both.
02:38Either one of Nightwing's boots.
02:40The figure does also come include with a trading card.
02:42The trading card is probably your best example of source material,
02:45so you can kind of really nickel and dime.
02:46Whether they've got it right, or whether they have a few aspects wrong.
02:50There are a few things that I think they could have tweaked better.
02:53But still, though, a classic-looking Nightwing.
02:55I don't know for one reason or another.
02:57As a kid, as...
02:59I'm going to go down a little bit of a rabbit hole in a story,
03:03speaking of Magic Storyteller.
03:04If I'm boring you at all, I'm sorry.
03:07But as a kid and collecting comics,
03:09as a kid in the 80s, especially collecting comics,
03:11you found as many outlets as you could
03:13to get as many comics as you could.
03:15So, even if you were the guy that was going to be bragging,
03:17I have 200 comics at home,
03:19even if half those comics were garbage,
03:21it was something at least to say I had a whole lot of comics.
03:24A lot of times, too, back then,
03:25to appease to kids that wanted to really collect a lot of comics,
03:29they would sell big, large stacks.
03:31Sears Catalog would usually do that during, like,
03:33the Christmas days in their wish books.
03:36You can also go to stores,
03:37and you would buy yourself little stacks of unknown comics.
03:39I say unknown because you would tend to have,
03:42usually, a cover on one side,
03:43you'd flip around the shrink-wrapped book or stack,
03:46and then there would usually be a comic on the back side.
03:49And you really had never any idea
03:50what was actually inside that bag until you got it home.
03:54Sure enough, a lot of times,
03:55this ended up happening for me
03:56where I would buy myself a good stack.
03:59It was about maybe that thick.
04:00So, what would that work out to be?
04:01Like, 10 comics?
04:02Maybe even 12?
04:03I think it was probably, like, 10 to 12 comics.
04:05Needless to say,
04:07you'd open it up with the hopes
04:08that everything on the inside would match the outside,
04:10so you'd usually have, like, yourself a Batman
04:12or the enticing Superman on one side.
04:15Sure enough, though, as you went through everything,
04:16you'd find yourself all these other random comics.
04:19Not that I would necessarily say that Teen Titans was random,
04:21but through that,
04:22I ended up amassing quite the stack of Teen Titans comics.
04:27So, my affinity and my interest in classic Nightwing
04:30stems more from just accidentally, really,
04:34collecting a lot of Teen Titans as a kid.
04:37That was a long-winded story,
04:38and I'm really sorry for that.
04:39Anyways, though, you're looking at the front of the card,
04:41there's a classic Nightwing.
04:42On the back, though, of the card,
04:43a closer image of the figure's face.
04:45His real name is Richard Dick Grayson.
04:48I don't know why I felt the need to explain that so much.
04:51And there's a good, substantial,
04:52meaty enough read to read,
04:54but it still leaves you wanting more.
04:55That's the way of making a mark on a good meal.
04:59If they leave you with just enough room that you want more,
05:02you never want to really full up
05:03to the point where you just have to feel awkwardly
05:05walking to your car.
05:07Oh, I should have so wore track pants.
05:10Getting long-winded here.
05:11Anyways, needless to say, that's the card.
05:13We're going to put it off to the side.
05:14We also got, of course, ourselves a scratch card.
05:16Let's just grab to the side here my scratch knife here.
05:19It's obviously McCutcheon's.
05:21We're just going to use that for right now.
05:22I'm going to scratch only this,
05:23and I'm hoping not to scratch these.
05:25As I scratch away the card, by the way,
05:27what you can do is go to www.mtd.gg
05:30to download your McFarland Toys digital viewer app
05:32for your Mac or PC.
05:35Scratch the above,
05:37which I'm about to do,
05:39and then, of course, you can create your account and log in.
05:41Click to redeem the code,
05:42and then use the code provided,
05:44and you can redeem that.
05:46I hope that gave you enough at least of the 411.
05:49You know exactly what to do.
05:50If you're not really quite sure what to do,
05:52I'm sure if you go to their site,
05:55they should be somewhat explanatory
05:57of what exactly you really have to do.
06:00That's the code that you have to use.
06:02C-T-U-D-T-G-X-H-X-T-X-0-O.
06:09That's probably an O.
06:09C-A.
06:11That's your code.
06:12Feel free to use it whenever you want,
06:14or at least use it before the next person
06:15end up grabbing it.
06:16Grabbing next, though,
06:17the figure does also come in clear with a Batarang.
06:20I really do like the look of this Batarang.
06:22Now, one thing that's interesting about the Batarang
06:24is not only does it look like a big, giant mustache,
06:27but also there's a hole on the side,
06:28so if you had yourself a cord or a cable,
06:31you'd be able to feed it through that,
06:32and you'd actually have a Batarang with a rope.
06:35Just though they compare it with the No Man's Land Batman,
06:37because we just recently had a look at that one,
06:38there is definitely a size difference between the two.
06:41Not that size matters when it comes to Batarangs.
06:43Just saying, though,
06:44Christian Bale's Batarangs were a little small.
06:48Anyways, there's the two Batarangs.
06:49The Batarang can, though, fit into his hand.
06:51It's interesting, though,
06:52that the figure does have no hands.
06:55Did he have no hands?
06:56I don't think he did.
06:57Take, though, the Batarang,
06:59and it basically just fits it into his hand.
07:01You really, though, have to really wedge it in there.
07:04And as I'm kind of doing this,
07:06I was kind of thinking to myself,
07:08would it be interesting, though,
07:08if I'd be able to fit the finger in the hole?
07:10Stop that.
07:12You can't.
07:13It doesn't really work that way.
07:14But I guess you can get the Batarang somewhat in his hand.
07:16I'm going to do my best not to carefully drop it.
07:18Not to drop it.
07:19So I'm going to be very careful on that.
07:21Yeah, the Batarang kind of looks like
07:23he's looking to discard something
07:24that Kitty left on the floor.
07:26He's just walking over to the garbage can.
07:28Let's put that off to the side, though.
07:29I don't want to definitely drop that in the garbage can.
07:32Did I actually bend the blade?
07:35A little spike.
07:36I think I may have warped just a little bit.
07:38Let's move that off to the side, though.
07:39And as for, though,
07:40the face of Dick Grayson or Nightwing,
07:43if you prefer,
07:44generally I am happy.
07:46Except for one thing.
07:48And while I do think that their attention to detail
07:51and knowing where source light is coming from,
07:54so basically if the light was hitting this way,
07:56nothing really at all on the figure evokes also the idea
07:58that casting shadows or lights
08:01on one side of the figure's body or not,
08:03it really is only the mass that's capturing all that.
08:05So the light's hitting it here,
08:07and we get, because of that,
08:08a blue highlight on his mask.
08:11Because of that,
08:12you're also only really going to get this side right here.
08:14I don't know if it really is completely correct down here.
08:17I think the mass overall is good,
08:20except for one thing.
08:22And the more that I look at it,
08:23the more I dislike it.
08:25It's this area right above his eyebrow.
08:29Why is that bothering me so much?
08:31I couldn't really even tell you.
08:33But it really is something that's just not working for me
08:36when it comes to the mask.
08:37I like all the other blue highlights.
08:39This side looks fine.
08:41But there's just something about having this
08:43one large caterpillar of blue just above his eye.
08:47I don't like it one bit,
08:49to the point where I'm almost even tempted
08:50to go in there with a marker.
08:52Boy, you're so passionate
08:53when it really comes to a guy's eyebrows on his mask.
08:56I don't know.
08:56It's just, I don't like that blue.
08:59Maybe I could take myself a marker.
09:00Maybe I could just, after a while, get used to it.
09:02But if you're looking at something, though,
09:04and it bothers you right away,
09:06don't just think to yourself,
09:07I'm going to get used to it.
09:09Never just do that in life.
09:10Don't just say, you know what,
09:11I'm going to get used to it.
09:12If you don't like something, change it.
09:14Or, if anything, change your perspective
09:16or the way you think about it.
09:17I'm not going to change, I think,
09:18the way I'm thinking about that mask.
09:21I really don't like that highlight right above his.
09:23It's right there.
09:25It's right there above his eye.
09:27The rest of the head sculpt looks good, though.
09:29Speaking of highlights, though,
09:30I like that they've actually added blue.
09:32Little streaks of blue across his hair
09:34adds a little bit of classic charm to it.
09:37Speaking of classic charm, though,
09:38get a load of this guy's jumpsuit.
09:40I mean, this is certainly something,
09:41I would not even say like early 80s.
09:43Well, I guess really,
09:44if you kind of look at some of the early 80s
09:46source material like Prom Night,
09:48Prom Night for me never really works as a movie
09:49to go back and watch them
09:50and doing disco numbers.
09:52I don't think that Jamie Lee Curtis
09:53should be dancing the disco
09:55in an early 80s film.
09:57It was certainly, though,
09:57a late 70s film.
09:59I know we're kind of getting
09:59really off tangent.
10:00We've done quite a lot of that
10:01already in this review.
10:03I just don't think, though,
10:04the disco look,
10:05something that really works well
10:06for the early 80s.
10:07And yet, I really like this look
10:09of Nightwing.
10:11The one thing I kind of am
10:13a little bothered by,
10:14speaking, I mean,
10:15outside of obviously the mask,
10:16we've already kind of talked to that
10:17at nausea.
10:19The one other thing
10:20I kind of really have an issue with
10:21is the top of his shoulder.
10:23Where is my source material?
10:24Where is my source material?
10:25Oh, it's right over here.
10:27If I just bring back the card,
10:28you can kind of see here.
10:29So what he essentially has
10:30is these gold bits
10:32that go across.
10:33Now, there's no real way
10:34that they could fix the problem.
10:36Obviously, the cup
10:37that covers over the joint
10:38right here
10:39loses some of that illusion
10:41of having the yellow
10:41going all the way
10:42to the ends of his shoulders.
10:43There's no real way around that.
10:45One thing, though,
10:46I really wish that
10:47they could have done
10:47is to keep the consistent
10:49color of the lighter blue.
10:51Painted the top of this
10:52a lighter blue.
10:54Now, the one thing
10:55that's going to run the risk of
10:56obviously, if you're going
10:57to get into the figure's
10:58possibility that we're
10:59going to talk more about
11:00in a second,
11:01that's going to cause
11:02a problem, I'm sure,
11:03that that may have
11:03scraped the paint.
11:05I mean, it hasn't happened
11:05yet for the yellow
11:06and the yellow is doing
11:07just as much as what
11:08the blue would have done.
11:09I feel like they probably
11:10have added just a little
11:11bit of blue
11:11because it breaks up
11:12what could have been
11:13more of a seamless look
11:14to the figure's body
11:15but unfortunately,
11:16just be leaving this
11:17the darker blue
11:18on the top.
11:19It loses some of that.
11:21The rest of the blue
11:22though, the darker
11:22and the lighter,
11:23of course, he's got
11:24the crisscross applesauce
11:25there on the front
11:25and the lighter blue.
11:27I think for the most part
11:28it looks pretty accurate
11:29to the comics
11:29and of course in the card
11:31because again,
11:31the only thing I really
11:32have right now,
11:32I can't start whipping
11:33out comics to show you guys
11:35but I think for the most part
11:36like the suit looks
11:37pretty close.
11:38Down below, of course,
11:39he does have the yellow,
11:40the blue boots
11:41but again, like to bring
11:43back in Dead Man,
11:44I know clearly
11:45it's a different color
11:47but to look at that
11:48I do feel like in fact
11:50they're probably using
11:50the exact same body.
11:52Now, this one does also
11:53have a like really weird
11:54looking hole on the back
11:56but other than that
11:57it does almost look like
11:58doesn't it?
12:00Doesn't it?
12:01Maybe it's a different
12:01behind,
12:02maybe it's a different bum,
12:03I don't know
12:04but like the lower length
12:05of its legs,
12:06the boots are a little bit
12:07different.
12:08I feel like the torso
12:08is the same though.
12:10Am I wrong by saying that?
12:11Maybe I am.
12:12One thing unfortunately
12:13though, getting this figure
12:14out of the box
12:15and plastic prison,
12:16I noticed right away
12:17his arms were loose.
12:18This arm especially,
12:20this one's a little tighter
12:21but this one is the
12:22looser of the two.
12:24It shouldn't really
12:24be the case.
12:25Now, I know if they are
12:26using molds again,
12:27maybe this is just
12:27something over time.
12:29It really is more
12:30just the peg,
12:31it's not even really
12:32the mold.
12:32The peg just doesn't
12:33feel like it's tight enough
12:35so this arm's a little
12:36on the loose side.
12:37All the rest of the joints
12:38seem to be good and tight
12:39here on Dick Grayson.
12:41All in all though,
12:42it's a good looking figure.
12:43The only thing I just don't,
12:45I know,
12:45here we go.
12:46I just don't like the mask
12:47right there,
12:48right above the eye
12:49and I think that they
12:50could have maybe done
12:51a better job to make
12:52the blue match
12:53so it was closer
12:54to the front of this collar.
12:55That being said though,
12:56for the figure's articulation,
12:58Nightwing's head
12:58is going to be on a ball joint,
12:59rotating, rotating
13:01as far as I can go.
13:02Head's going to look up,
13:03down,
13:05back,
13:06forth.
13:08Upper torso is going to be
13:08also on a ball joint.
13:09Lower from that,
13:10the figure does also have
13:11an abdomen ball joint.
13:12One arm is not so bad,
13:14the other arm is loosey-goosey.
13:16Still though,
13:17you can pull off more
13:18than just a T pose.
13:19This guy can do
13:20like jumping jacks.
13:21The figure does have
13:22a swivel in the bicep,
13:23double hinge on the elbow,
13:25and hands rotate
13:25all the way around.
13:27One thing to note as well
13:28is that this guy
13:29does not have
13:30the exact same hands
13:31as Deadman.
13:32It does look like
13:33the one hand is the same,
13:34but the other hands
13:35are not.
13:36This hand is kind of
13:37more of a gestured hand.
13:38Nightwing clearly has to
13:39have a hand
13:40for holding the Batarang,
13:41and he holds it
13:41again, okay.
13:43Legs go forward,
13:44they go back.
13:45There's a swivel there
13:45at the top of the thigh.
13:46Not a lot, though.
13:48I mean,
13:48don't get too excessive.
13:49Don't get too rough with it.
13:50The figure does also
13:51have a double hinge
13:51on the knees.
13:52No articulation here
13:53for the boots.
13:54It's just still
13:55the continued sculpt
13:56for the rest of the calf,
13:57but the figure does,
13:58in fact,
13:58have an ankle pivot
13:59and an ankle rocker.
14:02Just in case
14:02you're also curious, too,
14:03let's just put Nightwing
14:04down here for a second.
14:06Get in the stand.
14:09I did also,
14:10being that,
14:10of course,
14:10we just recently
14:11had a look at him,
14:12I wanted to bring back
14:13in here,
14:13here's No Man's Land,
14:15Batman,
14:16in case you did want
14:17to have the two displayed.
14:18Some may choose
14:19not to have them
14:19displayed together.
14:20In fact,
14:21you may choose
14:21to have the classic
14:22look of Nightwing
14:22displayed with the rest
14:23of your Teen Titans.
14:24The problem, though,
14:25goes with that
14:26is that you really
14:27don't have a whole lot
14:28of Teen Titans
14:28to work with.
14:29Sure,
14:29we do have more
14:30modern versions,
14:31and we have like
14:32Arsenal as an example.
14:33I do hope, though,
14:34and well,
14:34we did technically
14:35get a Beast Boy.
14:37Yeah, so,
14:37you know,
14:38we have a classic Beast Boy,
14:39we have a classic Nightwing.
14:40Let's hope the trend
14:41continues, though,
14:42and we get more
14:42classic characters
14:43before Todd's license
14:44runs out.
14:45Not really supposed
14:46to be the same look
14:47nor the same time,
14:48but close enough
14:49to resembling
14:49the classic Nightwing,
14:51there was, in fact,
14:51a Nightwing
14:52that was released
14:53as part of the Nightfall.
14:54It had almost
14:55the same style of suit,
14:56it didn't have a collar,
14:57but it had the yellow
14:58going across the chest
14:59in the same pattern.
15:01What was also interesting
15:02is while this one
15:03doesn't have the utility belt
15:04because classic Nightwing
15:05never had that,
15:06the other Nightwing
15:07did.
15:08And it also had
15:08that same yellow trim
15:09on the top of his boot.
15:11I was really close
15:12to pulling the trigger
15:13and getting that one
15:14because while it wasn't
15:15the Nightwing
15:15that I wanted,
15:16it was a close enough
15:17resemblance of the costume
15:18that I think I could
15:19buy it time
15:20until eventually
15:21a better Nightwing
15:22came around.
15:23But the price of what
15:24that thing was selling for,
15:25even when I was looking at it,
15:27I think it was selling
15:28for $60,
15:29and I said,
15:29no way, Jose.
15:31I was going to instead
15:32wait and hope
15:33that eventually
15:34Todd and his team
15:35would come around
15:35and we would get
15:36ourselves a Teen Titans
15:37Nightwing for the way
15:39that he looked
15:39in the early 80s.
15:41Sure enough,
15:41now we fast forward
15:43ahead a little bit
15:44of time to where
15:44we are now
15:45in the present
15:45and we got a Nightwing
15:46that looks not like
15:47the present time Nightwing
15:49but something from
15:50the past,
15:50the early 80s.
15:51This was again
15:52like the time
15:52that was really heavy
15:53into collecting
15:54the Teen Titans.
15:55Whether I wanted to
15:56really or not,
15:56it was always
15:57Teen Titans comics
15:58stacked inside the sandwich
16:00with the very more
16:02misleading comic covers.
16:04It was always
16:04a cool Batman cover
16:05on one side
16:06or it was a Superman
16:07or it was a Flash.
16:08It was enough
16:09that this guy
16:10spent his money
16:10buying the stack
16:11of comics
16:12hoping that all
16:12the comic issues
16:13inside would be the same
16:14and they never were.
16:17This Nightwing though
16:17for the most part
16:18from head to toe
16:19looks the part.
16:20Still don't like his mask.
16:22I still feel like
16:22the shoulders
16:23could have been
16:23touched up just a bit
16:24to bring in
16:25some of those pastel blues
16:26but all in all though
16:27I'm happy with this Nightwing.
16:29I do hope that
16:29this is going to follow suit
16:31maybe popped collar and all
16:32that we might get
16:33more classic Teen Titans
16:34before again
16:35the license runs out.

16:38of 80s Teen Titans Nightwing?
