00:00Senior Federal Court Judge Nalini Padmanathan will remain in office until February next year

00:06after her tenure was extended by six months, according to sources.

00:11FMT understands that the young DiPertawan Agung Sultan Ibrahim recently granted the extension

00:16with the letter handed to the judge yesterday.

00:20Nalini is the fifth judge to see her tenure extended this year.

00:24She will turn 66 on August 23, the mandatory retirement age for judges.

00:28In February, Nalini concluded a two-year tenure on the Judicial Appointments Commission,

00:34the body responsible for vetting judicial commissioners and judges for elevation.

00:39Earlier this year, the king extended the tenure of four Apex Court judges,

00:44including Chief Judge of Malaya, Hasna Hashim,

00:46who briefly served as Acting Chief Justice following the retirement of Tunku Maimontuan Mat.

00:52Other judges who saw their tenure extended were Zabaria Yusuf,

00:56who will serve until October 9 in Hanifah Farikullah.
