Joe Buck brings you the latest news surrounding Benjamin Sesko as he opts for a move to Manchester United over Newcastle United. The Magpies had submitted a club record bid for the striker, but he has chosen to move to Old Trafford instead.
00:00So Newcastle United have endured yet more transfer frustration this summer with news that Benjamin Sesco is preferring a move to Old Trafford rather than St James' Park this summer now.
00:11Newcastle had obviously gone big for Sesco, they put in a club record bid for him, they did that on Saturday and then even upped it on Monday night to push through a move.
00:20Manchester United have been linked with Sesco throughout the summer really but the links and the speculation with them was always interest, it was never an actual substantial concrete bid.
00:32Unlike Newcastle who forced their hand in negotiations, they bid once as I mentioned on Saturday and then again and I think the hope from Newcastle was that they would catch Manchester United on the hop, whether they could get in there before they firmed up their interest.
00:47But unfortunately, as we all know, that didn't happen. Manchester United did submit an offer to Leipzig.
00:52Now it was worth €5 million less than the one that Gas United were offering but that was deemed maybe not acceptable because Leipzig hadn't accepted it at this point in time right and they hadn't accepted that offer.
01:03But I think it was deemed that they'd shown that they were interested and they were committed to Sesco and I think that was the thing that for Manchester United and for the player that they needed.
01:12They needed some sort of commitment from Manchester United that their interest wasn't just talk, wasn't just, oh yeah, we'll bid in the future or we need to sell players and we'll bid.
01:21Actually, they had the money now to do a deal. Newcastle United forced their hand.
01:24Manchester United made the bid and as expected, Sesco has decided to join Manchester United rather than Newcastle United.
01:31Now for Newcastle, it's a massive, massive blow.
01:33We can talk about all the players that are rejected this summer but right now in the face of it, they've got Champions League football, they've got a more ambitious project, that's clear.
01:43They've got the better manager.
01:46Sesco would be number one at Newcastle with obviously Isak leaving and you would hope that the player would look at all them factors, look at how much someone like Isak, although it's soured a little bit now,
01:58how much his relationship had developed in Newcastle fans and you would like to think a player that actually may as a player could have that over the next couple of years
02:05and really get scoring goals and become that idol in the North East, playing track music football as I mentioned.
02:13But unfortunately, the lure of Manchester United, although they finished 15th last season, no European football on any note.
02:20And, you know, a club that is, you know, getting rid of employees left, right, setting up and spending lots of money on transfers and just,
02:30it's rotten to the core Manchester United, millions, billions of pounds in debt and yet they can offer higher wages.
02:36Unfortunately, PSR rules are ridiculous in that way that a team, a club like Manchester United can be in a situation they're in and still blowing your gas United out of the water in terms of wages.
02:45But that's unfortunately the way it goes. Sesco has chosen them, you know, for whatever reasons he'll come out with in the press.
02:51I think a large part of it is the legacy of Manchester United, which fair enough, if he believes he can be the striker to turn them around,
02:58then, you know, footballers have determinations. They have these beliefs. You believe that.
03:02But I think a lot of it will be wages as well. So, yeah, it's a big disappointment for Newcastle United.
03:08The one, I would say, the only outcome, the positive outcome of this is that it does make Alexander Ezekiel even less likely.
03:14I think that Newcastle won't sell him. They've said they won't sell him without an adequate replacement.
03:18And without Sesco, there's no real adequate replacement left on the market, I don't think.
03:22So, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Ezekiel for some move on, how Newcastle deal with that situation.
03:27Of course, Liverpool need a little up their offer from the derisory first offer.
03:31But right now, as it stands, Sesco has picked Manchester United. Newcastle United are still without a big market strike.
03:37They're going to replace Alexander Ezekiel. And with the Aston Villa game, a week and a half, you know, in a week and a half time,
03:43they're going to have to move quickly in the transfer market to improve their squad, not just in attacking areas,
03:48but across the pitch, really, before that game.
