00:00Disappointment here at the First Cloud Arena as South Shields exit the FA Cup with a 3-1 home defeat against League 2 Shrewsbury Town.
00:09The Mariners had actually made a really positive start in the contest.
00:12Kedwin Scott going close inside the open three minutes and really will feel he should have scored.
00:18However, the visitors always just looked more clinical of the two sides.
00:22Anthony Scully getting a brace for half time and Thomas Sang also finding a net to put in 3-0 in command.
00:29At half time. Second half, South Shields didn't come up and have a goal.
00:34They got a goal through on North Middlesbrough Youngster, Luke Wollstone midway through the half.
00:38A really good finish which I think may have took a deflection on a 2-8-1 goal.
00:42But that was as good as it got. What I would say is I was really impressed with how Shrewsbury just completely closed out the game.
00:49Completely closed off any momentum South Shields built up after that goal from Wollstone and really just stayed disciplined and organised.
00:56Yes, South Shields enjoyed a lot of the ball in the closing stages.
00:59But also Shrewsbury were more than content just to hit them on the break.
01:03Probably will feel they should have won by more in the end.
01:05Jasper Shaikh, the South Shields goalkeeper, making a couple of really good saves late on.
01:10Maybe losing by sort of three or four would have been a little bit harsh on South Shields.
01:15They did put in valiant effort. They've had a good go against a side from two levels higher.
01:20But the focus now has to go on that promotion bid.
01:24They will look to try and get into the National League, the top level of the non-league game this season.
01:30And move just one step away from potentially going into the EFL and having moments like this, occasions like this on a regular basis.
01:37You'll probably hear the music in the background going on, saw that crowd here, the TNT sports cameras here.
01:44It's been a big occasion for South Shields and on and off the pitch they've done themselves proud.
01:48But now there has to be a desire to do this on a more regular basis.
01:51That will only come with progress on and off the pitch, obviously more so on it.
01:56But with Ian Watson and Colt Magna leading the charge from the dugout, you know, they've gone a long way from where they were this time last season,
02:03from where they were at the end of last season to where they are now to come away from an FA Cup tie with the League 2 side disappointed.
02:10Just shows how far they have come.
02:12So, yes, disappointment, as I say, for South Shields, but there's plenty more to come from them this season.
02:17And all eyes now go on Wednesday night's visit to AFC Field.
