00:00So Newcastle have confirmed their first signing of the summer window with a capture of Malaga winger Antonio Cordero.
00:06Now Cordero will join the club on a free transfer on the 1st of July when his contract at Malaga expires.
00:12And Newcastle have done well to get his signature signing seal.
00:15You know, there was interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid in Cordero, but it is Newcastle who he has chosen for the next stage of his career.
00:23Now, the move in Spain did cause a few headlines, I'd say, you know, lots of people unhappy or lots of newspapers unhappy that Cordero had chosen to leave Spain to move to Newcastle.
00:35When, of course, when you've got players, clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid interested in you, of course, anywhere, a move elsewhere is going to cause a big stir.
00:43But, you know, Finnegast United is a really good capture and it's a continuation of their look, you know, them scouring Europe for some of the best talents.
00:50So you've already got Barra Nildiz from Turkey, Vaktan Salia from Georgia, he will join in August when he turns 18 and now Cordero.
00:58And, yeah, as I said, you know, Newcastle United need to do this, they haven't done this well in the past, they need to build up an academy system and get players from abroad.
01:05Whether they make an impact in the 1st team or not is, you know, yet to be seen.
01:09Of course, Cordero, it'll hope, Cordero will play in the 1st team at some point, Eddie Howe's future.
01:15But right now it looks like he will then be sent out on loan next year.
01:18It's a policy they adopted with Jankuba Minter a couple of years ago when they signed him from Denmark.
01:23They sent him on loan to Feyenoord and, of course, he performed very well at Feyenoord.
01:27Ultimately, he was sold to Brighton to comply with PSR.
01:30And hopefully Antonio Cordero doesn't meet that same fate.
01:33Hopefully he can impress in the 1st team.
01:35But these type of players, as much as fans like to get attached to them and like to see new players coming into the club,
01:41you know, these players, if they make a profit on them, on their books, Cordero will cost nothing.
01:46It'll be pure profit. And, you know, you don't want to look too far in the future, of course.
01:49You hope that you can make an impact on the 1st team.
01:51But, you know, it's the start of a transfer policy and you guys will need to adopt.
01:55Paul Mitchell is big on it now. Of course, Paul Mitchell is going to leave as sporting director.
01:58But he's still got a couple of weeks in the post and, of course, has been doing his role for about a year now.
02:02So these are signings that he will have put in place and, you know, a policy that you guys will hope to adopt in the future.
02:08Now, just on Cordero joining, he told the club that it's truly an honour to be here.
02:12He's a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it?
02:16He said, it's a big step and that's one of the reasons I am here.
02:20I'm happy to do it and I have a great desire to get going already.
02:23Now, that's what Cordero told Negasi United's club website.
02:27What we know about him is very limited at this point.
02:30Of course, the second division in Spain is not really televised too much over here, but he is a very exciting player.
02:36Six goals and seven assists in his first season as a senior player in Spain.
02:41He also plays for the Spanish under-19 national team.
02:45Scored and assisted against Italy back in March for Spain under-19s and will play in this summer's under-19s European Championships.
02:52He could face Luis Maile in that competition.
02:54Now, Spain and England are in different groups, but of course, they could meet in the semifinals or finals.
02:59It'll be interesting to see if Cordero and Miley do face off in that tournament this summer.
03:04But yes, he comes with lots of hype, lots of talent.
03:09As I said, Barcelona and Real Madrid don't just look at players for nothing.
03:13Reports that Ajax are one of the clubs interested in signing him out on loan.
03:17Much like Feyenoord a couple of years ago, as I mentioned, Ajax is a massive club.
03:20And if they're interested in someone of Cordero's age, then maybe that could show just how highly rated he is.
03:28Now, obviously, this is not the big, big first-team marquee sign that everyone hopes for this summer.
03:35But it is a start.
03:36And hopefully, as I've mentioned, it's just building blocks, putting plans in place for this to become a regular thing.
03:42And then Newcastle can then scour Europe for some of the best talents.
03:44Some won't work out.
03:45Some won't develop into the players.
03:46You guys will think they are.
03:47But hopefully, some will.
03:48And hopefully, Cordero is the first one or one of them that can realise his potential at timeside.
03:55As I said, that first season will be spent an hour on loan.
03:59And I think that's the best way of his development.
04:00He can do that.
04:01Go out and develop without the glare of the Premier League, without the glare of Newcastle Knight,
04:04and just concentrate on playing his football and hopefully come back.
04:07And then in future seasons can really challenge for a first-team place.
04:11But as I said, it's a first step for Newcastle Knight's summer window.
04:15And hopefully, there's plenty more of my videos to come of me talking about other signings I've made.
04:19But of course, the best way you can stay up to date with all the latest Newcastle Knight transferring news this summer is with the Shields Gazette.
