Although a large majority of young people in the EU view their health positively, socio-economic and gender disparities affect their well-being across the 27-member bloc.

00:00How healthy do young people feel across the EU?
00:07The percentage of young people who perceive themselves to be in good or very good shape
00:11has seen a slight decline in the EU, dropping from 92% in 2010 to 90.1% in 2024.
00:19Young people aged 16 to 29 living in Sweden, Finland and Denmark
00:24were the least likely to report being in good or very good health.
00:28By contrast, young people in Romania feel much healthier.
00:3198.2% of people aged 16 to 29 living here perceive themselves to be in good or very good shape,
00:39followed by Greece at 97.7% and Croatia at 96.2%.
00:45Chronic health issues affect 16.3% of young people in the EU
00:50and women are more likely to face these problems.
00:53The disparity is starkest in Finland.
00:55Here, women are almost 11 percentage points more likely to report long-term health issues than men.
01:02The situation is also concerning in Denmark, where the gap is 7.1 percentage points,
01:07followed by Sweden at 6.8 percentage points.
01:10Almost 1 in 10 people aged 16 to 29 living in the EU reported having a disability last year.
01:17Here, a socio-economic gap exists.
01:20The prevalence of moderate or severe disability among those in the lowest income group
01:25was nearly double that of those in the wealthiest group across the EU.
