Willenhall couple Paul Briggs and Viki Smith, founders of home fragrance brand Dark Foundry No 8 celebrate the launch of their first direct to public shop

00:00So we're here at Dark Foundry in Willanall and we're here with the bosses

00:04who have we got introduce yourselves guys? I'm Paul, Paul Briggs. I'm Vicki. I'm Richard.

00:10Cool so what is Dark Foundry? So Dark Foundry is everything that we make is

00:18themed it's all themed around the black country in Birmingham so the we use the

00:24foundry because of all the foundries in the black country. A number eight is

00:29mine and Vicki's lucky number. Ah and it's all about fragrance isn't it the world of smell.

00:36So what are some of the products that you're making? You've been here about a year making

00:40products haven't you but today's the launch of the shop kind of the retail side of things

00:45so what are some of the products that you make here then? So we've got two like big flagship ranges

00:52uh the first one you'll see as you go in on the left is the iam range that's everything spiritual

00:58uh vicki my partner's a very spiritual lady so he designs it up so it's all very um in

01:08up to date as well isn't it yeah yeah spiritual world and then the big range at the back that's

01:13our anchor range and that's the range that's everything to do with the black country and

01:18Birmingham. Ah i'm thinking titanic anchor is that where yeah yeah cool right well should we

01:24should we go in take us so we enter now into the shop bin at first then looking very glam uh on the

01:32left this is going to be like our selfie bench ah yeah yeah so we're asking our customers to hold

01:38the dark foundry uh plaque girl and we're adventuring this is where we want you to come and spend some

01:46money folks she's looking glam isn't it yeah so what you do you pick your vessel you pick your scent you

01:57take a bag and you pick your own wreath oh wow okay yeah yeah so you kind of very much tailoring it to

02:04exactly exactly exactly what you want yeah yeah go on then take us around a bit more and show us some

02:12of these um yeah so this is your bag this is what i know about yeah yeah everything has got something

02:20to it uh karma carnelian crystal oh okay this is why i am joy hunter this one actually now got my

02:29nan oh that was your nan put off your way to pay tribute to your nan your citrine crystal is all about

02:37joy that's why you would have it yeah then we go on to obsidian with control yeah we've got peace with your

02:45blue lace again who's this lady on here looking good cool and you've got oh we've got awards here as

03:06well very fantastic cool so then we go on to the go on boss do you want to show us a bit of this one

03:14this is the anchor range yeah yeah so every candle's got a name and a theme behind it go on yeah talk us

03:23for a few of these names then go on shout a few out then what we got um this one's called 1849 yeah

03:31this is back from morning talk about paul's childhood yeah my dad just take us on this

03:36disused railway track yeah to ride our motorbikes and uh the track opened in 1949 okay yeah yeah

03:47that's uh one and then just off the back of that one yeah we've got where's the petrol one for

03:53the petrol is out in 49 and then you've got four brook yeah we've got four brook yeah so where's

03:59four brook line then what's four brook lines in parcel as well okay and um this was my parents house

04:06ah right and all us kids when we were younger they used to congregate there playing the garden yeah

04:12yeah yeah that's what that's attributed to hell yeah paul do you want to do the saddler yeah go on paul where's

04:19the saddler we've got a saddle range uh i'm a big saddlers fan yeah um and then the big leather industry

04:29in warsaw so we have to do a saddler gotta be done in it and it's a very uh nice leather scent found a

04:36shopper what's your name evie have you um have you picked out a favorite fragrance definitely i love

04:42this one what's that one called carnelian carnelian really lovely scent it's cherry and nut yeah

04:49and you get carnelian with it ah the name as well part of the iron range it's honestly smells delicious

04:56so that's that's the one for you definitely i love it it's a lovely little shop innit oh yeah it's really

05:02nice in here yeah yeah the range over there those certain candles like with the holographic sort of

05:09design that's so beautiful to me yeah you're right yeah that does look cool yeah so just walk us

05:21through into where the uh where everything's made then yeah now what is so this is our workshop yeah

05:36this is where candles are made once melts then over this side this is where we make all our

05:44carpet fresheners all our home cleaning stuff okay yeah so literally like a perfume to spray on the

05:50carpet and on furniture and stuff yeah okay yeah yeah we do everything in every scent yeah so yeah and

05:58um so the hope is as well in the near future you might be doing workshops for people as well i believe

06:04yeah that's the plan and that's where i started yeah i went to a candle making lesson um yeah and

06:11that's where my journey started with making and yeah that's pretty much where dark foundry started so
