00:00For Love Your Neighbourhood this week, we are here in Leymour. We've been speaking to people who run shops as well as the local, who've spoken about some of the issues this area has, but also some of the problems it has and also the good people. So let's go and see what the heck to say.
00:16So Maureen is one of the business owners around here. We're inside her shops, Marguerites of Leymour. Tell me a bit about the shop first of all, Maureen.
00:23Well, I've been here 17 years and there's just the three of us, my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter.
00:31What was it that made you set up in Leymour in the first place?
00:34I used to help the owners before and then they retired and then I took it out of her.
00:43So 17 years of being here, I'm guessing you've seen a lot in that time. How's the area changed?
00:51Good points and bad points?
00:52There's good points and bad points. There's a lot of homeless and a lot of thieving all the way up round here.
01:02But there is still something about this area that has a nice unique ideal to it.
01:06Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. I mean, as I said, the people, all the people are lovely out of the flats and all the houses. They all encourage us.
01:16And your shop has obviously got something to it because people come from all over to buy you.
01:20Yeah, yeah, they come from everywhere. Everywhere. So that's, that's a good sign.
01:26Okay, within one of these local shops, this is Suresh, who's the manager of the shop.
01:30Tell me a bit about the shop first of all and the, and living and working in this area.
01:34Okay, the movement, but I've got a lot of shoplifting and a lot of people love to lose the job and hanging around here.
01:44Do you find that Limor's got a bit of a reputation to it almost?
01:47The local people very nicely. I'm living in Birmingham, better than Birmingham here.
01:51Yeah. And I suppose that's the thing about somewhere like this, that it's got, obviously it's got good points and bad points to it hasn't it?
01:57Yeah, more 90% good points. I'm happy around here.
02:03But this is it. What do you like about the area?
02:05I'm thinking it's good, yeah.
02:07Just the people as much as anything?
02:09They're all right, good people, yeah.
02:11We've been chatting to shop owners. We've also met one of the locals. This is Craig.
02:16Tell me a bit about your life here in Limor. How long have you lived it for?
02:20I think about two years.
02:22What was it about the area that, I suppose, attracts you here?
02:25Well, at the time I was living in the centre of Warsaw and, to be honest, we were just looking for a new place, a nicer place, and we were able to find a nice place here.
02:37And in the two years you've lived here, what's been your impression of it, Limor?
02:41Yeah, I think it's a decent area. We've got no problems. We have no sort of issues or concerns or anything.
02:47We've got pretty much everything we need nearby in terms of amenities. It's close to my mum's house as well.
02:53So, perfect.
02:54And people have spoken about the issues of the area, the poverty of the area.
02:58Do you agree that there's sort of good points and bad points to it?
03:01Well, I mean, I'm sure that, like, you know, the area, obviously, you know, there is a lot of poverty here, but I think that's the case in large parts of the borough.
03:10But it hasn't had any effect in terms of, sort of, making it a dangerous place if they really look like that, in my opinion.
03:16But then again, I'm not walking the streets all the time late at night, so I mean, I don't really know.
03:20But I would say it's a nice area to live. I walk my dog here all the time. I never have any trouble.
03:25And just because people have less body doesn't mean that they're, you know, bad people.
03:30But it's one of these areas that you would actually endorse the people?
03:33Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't sort of, I wouldn't endorse or discourage. I would say, you know, if my friend was thinking about moving here, I would say there's no reason to, you know, not move here.
