00:00hey how are you guys good jim how you doing wonderful welcome to detroit i know you were
00:04back here earlier this year so or um it was like yeah yeah yeah was that a fantastic uh fan con
00:09there that was wonderful it was it was and it was funny it took them 18 seconds to ask you a
00:14question about coney dogs i love that it's the most detroit thing we do yeah exactly right we're
00:19like welcome to detroit you want a coney like easy you know it's funny i had one in the airport on
00:24the way out because yeah it's like it's like put the the bug in my ear was like i gotta have one of
00:30these um speaking of food this is a segue i think it's a pretty good one um with a2 this movie as
00:36brent you make a meal out of this this is a character to me that you could have been very
00:41one-dimensional but you're not you scared the crap out of me in this where do you go when you're
00:46playing that role do you go to a like i've never been an actor where do you go when you're when
00:51you're playing a role like that wow um uh it's interesting i mean it's all in the preparation
00:57you know and and and and seeing this guy and and uh developing him uh he's a he's a director uh uh
01:03for the for everybody uh to know he's he's mounted a a production of julius caesar uh and uh not only
01:09is he you know really really on edge about the production but he thinks that uh the young hunk
01:14playing brutus is is shooping his wife uh so uh in a very shakespearean fashion you know his
01:20his insecurity his ambition his paranoia his jealousy all of that comes into it and so uh
01:27i he's he's pretentious he's elitist he's purist but there's something to really love about him
01:33because he he really is an artist and he's all about the art um and and so whenever you play a role
01:39like this i mean i played richard ramirez the night stalker uh i tell young actors whenever i'm
01:44teaching sometimes it's like you cannot judge the character you have to embrace their worldview you
01:49have to figure out how their mind works and then you know commit to the bit as it were uh and and
01:55that's that's what you do you know and and i have to say max janice wrote a wonderful script
01:59ridiculously long monologues but but brent is so articulate and so pointed in in what he has to say
02:08as a director um and that was that was kind of easy to uh to uh uh wrap my head around because i i've
02:15worked with a lot of people fortunately nobody as psychotic as brent but certainly a lot of people
02:19who are driven and who are are very very demanding well i'm sure that in you know between theater and
02:25film and everything that you've done lou that that you glean a little bit from people i don't think
02:29brent's an exact person but maybe an amalgamation of all these people but um i do want to ask about
02:34malcolm mcdowell do you like if i'm talking we're a classic rock station if i'm in a room with bob
02:39seger or i'm talking any of these people i get lost in the moment i'm like oh dear god i'm talking
02:43of bob seger if you're in doing a scene with malcolm mcdowell is there some little voice in
02:48the back of your head going oh dear god that's malcolm mcdowell i better be good i better be good
02:51i better be good 100 are you okay cool like thank you it's good to know i mean with with you know his
02:56decades-long experience and and and you know a lot of the iconic performances he's given and uh you know
03:01and i understand that malcolm doesn't like everybody uh but he likes me so thank goodness uh but i mean
03:08what what what you see on the screen and and uh max you know shot this almost like a a play i mean
03:13there are you know a lot of wide shots a lot of two shots not a lot of coverage uh so there wasn't a
03:19safety net i mean you really you really had to to bring it and and do long chunks of scenes you know
03:25which is you know a little different than than a lot of other films and so uh that that rhythm that
03:32that chemistry uh that that's that was really happening with malcolm and it was uh it was a real joy
03:37you know but i mean that's the challenge you know that going in it's like okay i i can't i can't
03:42slack off here or somebody's going to eat my lunch it's you video on demand everybody you need to watch
03:47this sit down this to me is another what i call a movie dinner so you sit down watch the movie and
03:51then afterwards you get something to eat and talk about it because there's a lot going on in this film
03:55and i mean you're aware of it as well um what movie scares you oh my it's so funny because my
04:03daughter uh indigo uh she's 17 now and she was like starting to get into some horror stuff uh uh
04:10and so i'm introducing her to things right and and like jaws jaws was the first one i mean again
04:15just a just a brilliant film uh alien the first one uh set the bar i think for a lot of you know
04:23modern day horror um there there's a lot of other fun stuff yeah i was in a horror film recently
04:29with frank grillo uh called werewolves which was uh you know out in theaters uh uh last december
04:35and i think he's also streaming um you know i i'm i'm a fan of the genre you know i'm a fan of the
04:39genre and so it's uh uh it's it's fun and and there are many different kinds you know i tend to lean
04:46toward the psychological you know kind of horror films um watching people unravel you know that's
04:54always fun it's hard to explain to people like my son's 22 and he's a college student here in
04:58detroit and he loves film he loves movie and um to get him to watch blair witch but i couldn't tell
05:03him anything about it i said just watch it because if you tell someone you've six cents that you've
05:07ruined the movie but once you watch it you're like holy crap this is insanity that they did this
05:13and and a great concept you know yeah and that's the thing about it too is it reminded me a lot of
05:19the you know like that's where i was going with this absolutely price revenge films of the
05:2460s and 70s it it felt like a throwback to me you know a little more classic which which you know
05:31it's you you have your slasher films you have your thrillers or whatever your psychological thrillers
05:35some people have said that too is you know a bit like the shining meets uh bird man so uh i think i
05:42think that's right wow that's a that is a great whoever that's fantastic absolutely and and you're
05:48right i do love the shots it's funny i think as i watch more and more movies as i get older and
05:53and having a son who's into film i tend to watch cinematography more than i ever did growing up
05:58and i i don't know where that started but i noticed these things there's some really beautifully shot
06:03movies and this is one of them yeah on on a budget yeah that's and that's the thing too i think max
06:09and and his whole team is cinematographer his composer they're all buddies you know and and and that was
06:15one of the other things that i loved about doing this film is that not not only you know what that i
06:20know i was dealing with some artists on their way up who were hungry and and ambitious and and and
06:25really really you know have a point of view uh a lot of the cast other than me and malcolm
06:30you know are young young actors and and this was a a bit of a way to you know pass the torch
06:36i love it uh at two out on video on demand it's the world we live in now and i think it's fantastic
06:41this is this is a wonderful film you should be so proud of this can i give you an elevator pitch you
06:45ready yeah hit me okay i got this so we've been sitting around talking about all the movies around
06:50now there's so many sequels and everything's trying to figure out like what movies could you do and
06:54obviously there were a couple young gun movies but i got i have a crossover one you ready okay
06:59trouble trouble in time no tumble through time is what i want to go with is the title
07:03um it involves a rip in the space-time continuum and you guys wind up in the same world with doc and
07:09marty from back to the future three that's that's hilarious and uh there's very there's confusion
07:15because every time we say doc keifer and and uh chris christopher go yes you get it and the only
07:21person who trusts marty is you because chavez is going he's a good guy billy wants to shoot him
07:27dirty steve wants to wreck the delorean um no one trusts them yeah so you cross over with both these
07:32guys you could do it it would be awesome uh although we are doing young guns three it's happening
07:39is this happening yeah it's happening uh amelio wrote the script he will direct it uh we're
07:44supposed to start shooting in the fall okay see what i did i drew that out of you just like a good
07:49acting coach like brent would in it too see you draw that out of them nice hey um you're always
07:54welcome here in detroit if you want coney's have your publicist get a hold of me i'll ship you from
07:58american coney seriously we do coney kits for christmas we mail them out if you guys want one we'll get
