From diagnosis to determination as Debby raises thousands for Macmillan unit
Transcript
00:00Whenever I was first diagnosed I just didn't know what was ahead of me and having that emotional
00:09support and having someone to sit and listen was just so valuable and I really feel that it is a
00:18gift you know. I met Debbie back in January of this year and I suppose it's one of those patients
00:23you know as soon as you meet them but you know she's a special person and she wasn't maybe in
00:28the best place at the start but very quickly we built up a great relationship and it was just a
00:33privilege to be on the journey with her and it became very obvious very early on that she wanted
00:38to give something back and she was organizing things on whatever to see the way that she's
00:42amazed today like you know 5,400 pounds is absolutely amazing and she'll do more. It's a way to say thank
00:50you to because I feel really really privileged to have been a patient here and I feel very blessed
00:57as well that I've been so looked after by so many people. Debbie's the sort of person that she does,
01:03she's here before you see her and she is the person that comes into the unit and the place just comes
01:08alive. Anyone that's sitting there will just be embraced by Debbie and will be brought along and
01:13you can feel the joy in the unit which is amazing and people always say whenever she's here you know
01:20they feel better because Debbie's here. She started out naturally as a patient and a stranger but I can
01:27say that I can count her now as my friend. Having a cancer diagnosis yes is traumatic and it is scary
01:32but it has been made so much more gentler for me by the care that I've been given.
