Hospital at Home service launches in Lisburn
Transcript
00:00Hello Elizabeth, it's just the nursing. Hello, how are you today? All right. Patients definitely, in my opinion, do better at home. The Hospital at Home Service has just launched in the Ligon Valley site. It aims to look after patients over the age of 65 or patients with frailty. Our aim for the Hospital at Home Service is to prevent hospital admissions. Trying to prevent hospital admissions is definitely something that's needed within our trust.
00:27Within the service, we have advanced nurse practitioners, we have consultants, we have doctors, we have registered nurses. Also, we have inputs from physio, OT, speech and language, dietician. So we're able to bring everything that you can get in the hospital to the home.
00:42It's meant everything for mum, as I say, to feel more secure, for us to be able to be more updated. We're here with mum, with the service.
00:49Having patients nursed in their own home really does reduce the risk of, you know, acquiring a hospital acquired infection. You know, they could go in with one infection and end up with another, which is going to lengthen their stay.
01:01They have their family here, they have their own home-cooked meals, you know, they don't have, they're not restricted to visiting times, and they're in their own bed.
01:09For mum then, to feel secure and safe in her own home. And then for me, being able to obviously be part of the care as well was really important for me and mum.
