00:08:07a mere ten minutes ago, already stunned by some announcement that we had heard.
00:08:13But now, with Ronnie Piper coming out, saying what he had to say,
00:08:19can you believe what we have for you here tonight?
00:08:23Literally, on the edge of our seat, fans from all over the Bluegrass State,
00:08:28from Tennessee, from Illinois, from Indiana, from Oklahoma.
00:08:33Fans all the way up from Texas are here tonight, and we're gonna start it out with the Nitro Girls.
00:08:38I'm Tony Schiavone, of course, along with Iron Mike today, the real professor of pro wrestling,
00:08:44and the living legend, Larry Zabisco.
00:08:46And here are the Nitro Girls, I tell you guys, we need to regroup here, because...

00:08:58I think the world liked what Piper had to say.
00:09:00I mean, not only did he change WCW into an old batting area, he called out Randy Savage.
00:09:09And we know, Savage, what he is doing to the new world order.
00:09:14In fact, it doesn't take a genius to realize that the NWO is only as stable as Randy Savage.
00:09:21What we have before you here tonight, ladies and gentlemen, is a world-class pay-per-view event on TNT.
00:09:30Ronnie Piper came out and said the giant will face Kevin Nash to prove who is the real giant in our sport.
00:09:38He also said that he, Ronnie Piper, would face the macho man Randy Savage.
00:09:44Now, Mike, today, you had all that together, what we heard an hour before we got on the air.

00:09:52In addition to all that tonight, Sting tonight will defend the World Heavyweight title on this program
00:09:59against the number one contender, of course, that is the U.S. Heavyweight Champion, Diamond Dallas Bates.
00:10:05Tony, there have been some huge matches in Nitro history.
00:10:09But never before have we seen an entire event that looks like it's going to shape up like this evening.
00:10:15You talk about pay-per-view caliber, talk about Roddy Piper being a man of action.
00:10:19When Piper arrives at Nitro, things happen.
00:10:22And Piper will go in the ring tonight, like we said, against the macho man Randy Savage.
00:10:27And Sting defends the world title against Diamond Dallas Bates.
00:10:30Well, all the best to Diamond Dallas and Sting, both in the camp of WCW.
00:10:35But when Piper comes on the scene, there is more than just action.

00:11:15Although the U.S. title will not be on the line, later on tonight,
00:11:19Diamond Dallas Page will get a chance of becoming world heavyweight champion
00:11:23against Jane Linder on this program.
00:11:25Well, Diamond Dallas Page remains the United States heavyweight champion.
00:11:29Now, he's not going to be defending that U.S. title tonight
00:11:32when he challenges Sting for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:11:36But, Tony, it's plain and simple to see.

00:42:27this is what it's all about the competition nick patrick said get back in the ring but you can better believe the intensity reaching the fever pitch especially when the bell sounds and you're fresh larry you want to try to get the first blows in
00:42:40well you do but you also don't want to lose your cool don't let the intensity become emotional instability diamond dallas page i mean he looks like he's ready to walk through a wall but you don't don't let that take over your mind you still have to think this is a human game of chess and you have to play the game
00:43:01talk about intensity and competitive nature neither man wanted to even give up on that collar and elbow
00:43:07sting yanks the arm pulls down on the towards the elbow the shoulder edp reverses into a full-arm dragon twist and now his patented shoulder drives into the shoulder of sting

00:44:18at nick patrick it looks like diamond's almost almost too psyched that this means too much to him i think yeah
00:44:24i think it's obvious sting is the more laid back of the two you can see it in the movement diamond is
00:44:29is running at 200 miles an hour and sting is maintaining his calm here well would you expect
00:44:34anything less diamond dallas page certainly has his game face on biggest match biggest opportunity of
00:44:39his life i think i think diamond dallas knows the reality here it's it's much easier to keep the
00:44:45championship much harder to win it so diamond has to you know he's the one that's going to be on the
00:44:50offense swing and neck breaker cover one two idiot he only got a two but he came very very close that's
00:44:57he's going for the diamond car and sting struck him right off sting was ready for it both men prepared
00:45:04for the others trademark moves and gentlemen remember we are just one diamond cutter away from crowning a new
00:45:11world's heavyweight champion look on page i don't know boy he's going to be inside his mind right
00:45:20now would tell a would tell a whole book i think page realized had he connected he could have become
00:45:26a world champion right there yeah he realized it slipped right through his finger that was a combination
00:45:31of disappointment and concentration as well back now they go to the corner page has the advantage

00:46:41have really stepped up to the plate so to speak in this one so far well it's been everything that
00:46:46we expected in the early going fans almost have to be i would think divided in their support in this matchup
00:46:52i don't think there's any question they both have a tremendous amount of respect for both men and
00:46:57love for both men and certainly wcw fans everywhere as you said mike certainly divided about their
00:47:04allegiance here well as bad as diamond dallas wants to win it that's as bad as sting wants to keep it we
00:47:09know it sting went through to finally get it from the new world order sting got a head of steam on the
00:47:15ropes ddp one step ahead boot to the midsection and now climbs the turnbuckle the fans are counting
00:47:21along with the us camp here sting hooks him though back to the top turnbuckle pan what a way to answer
00:47:29that series of clubbing blows to the top of the head sting responds and sting now has the chance to take
00:47:35over what a champion wild left hand missed with the right hand did not ddp one step ahead but sting you see
00:47:44the reason he's the world champ guys yeah sting was two steps ahead he followed up a combination cover again
00:47:49one two and that time did not hook a leg and i'm not so sure that sting really wanted to make a pin
00:47:56it almost seemed as if he dropped down almost trying to get a second wind here and now he returns with a
00:48:02reverse chin lock well when a man's on his back lay on top of him cover him try to pin him you never know
00:48:07always take that chance if he kicks out snatch a hole just like sting did right here
00:48:13sting obviously you know it a great veteran in this sport certainly his formative years
00:48:22has led to his success here in the 1990s and he is one of the greatest wrestlers any any
00:48:30wrestler will tell you that when you're in the ring with sting you're in against one of the
00:48:34the top condition athletes in the world their ddp kicks out maybe not the biggest brawler but
00:48:39certainly in top condition
00:48:43and he has the or you see it right around the chin it is a legal hold nick patrick checking in
00:48:48it is right around the chin it is not a choke hold and ddp's in trouble here now that's a chin lock
00:48:53that's legal it's plenty of room for the air to go through the passageway it's not around the throat
00:48:58he's got the chin hook laying there again the champion too whoa he's got time on his side
00:49:05well the intensity level was just turned up so high at the outset of this match
00:49:10sting has now decided to bring it back down a level neutralizing diamond dallas page in mid-ring
00:49:15trying to wear him down at this point you know i think ddp doing a doing a heck of a job here's a
00:49:20two count here in that he is not really trying to fight hard to try to get out of this now i know it's
00:49:25a painful hold but sometimes larry you would attest to this the more you fight the more energy
00:49:30you lose well that's the purpose hook the man let him use his energy to get out diamond dallas
00:49:37keeping his shoulders off the off the mat right there almost looking around what i would do is i
00:49:42just look around don't expel energy try to get one of those long diamond dallas legs over that rope
00:49:49make patrick break the hole yeah he's starting to fight which tells us he got a second wind under there
00:49:55and diamond dallas comes back trying to get to a vertical base sting is standing boat meter up
00:50:00a back elbow two of them three finally hooks them loose and now they both hit the ropes at the same time
00:50:07but it was sting driving page down with a running lariat sting beat him to the punch and that's
00:50:13what's going to separate the champion from the challenger diamond dallas he's going to reach down deep
00:50:19he just did what an adrenaline rush to reverse sting into the corner he hooks
00:50:26covers him one and two and no did not get it only got a two oh my
00:50:34oh that will that will take the breath out of announcers too guys i tell you what hooks again
00:50:40great show of strength that time by sting coming up with the back body drop
00:50:48diamond dallas holds off connect sting absorbs it and now they're going literally toe to toe

00:51:13into the gut here he comes driving page in one of his trademark maneuvers
00:51:20and again he'll do two in a row the diamond keeps getting up but he gets up right in the middle of the
00:51:26ring go to the rope page first to tell you larry three of those four of those a lot of times you'll
00:51:33lose your whereabouts in the ring like realizing where you are he didn't you've got to maintain
00:51:38positioning use the ropes he's in no man's land now ddp one step ahead with the knees
00:51:52and it was a desperation move and i tell you guys it worked
00:51:56and we normally don't see sting with a high risk move like that but page was certainly ready waiting
00:52:01got the knees up and now the window of opportunity well it's all to diamond dallas page
00:52:06i don't know diamond's not getting up quick they're both getting up at the same speed now nick patrick
00:52:13administering the 10 count to both men here and both literally are pulling themselves up on either
00:52:19side stays up sting is up staggering back towards page page seizing the opportunity sends him into the
00:52:25corner right left combination blows diamond cutter come again and sting put the brakes on he'll try it
00:52:31again but no now careful one two three beating what a match what a match up sting is still the world champ
00:52:44it was a great match of diamond dallas just went for that diamond cutter a little too quick and out of
00:52:50position what a match up you talk about about that exemplifies everything that world championship
00:52:56wrestling stands for that was it you know i know how diamond dallas watches videos i mean he studies
00:53:04them over and over he's going to be watching this one about a hundred times he came close the heavyweight
00:53:10championship of the world just slipped through his fingers sting props him up in the corner of the world
00:53:16the world champ here celebrating his win and there is the u.s heavyweight champ
