00:01:29the one, the only Iron Mike today.
00:01:32Ladies and gentlemen, you heard at the top of the program,
00:01:36the comments from the rowdy one, Roddy Piper.
00:01:40He said tonight in Minneapolis, he will be eye to eye with Hollywood Hogan.
00:01:46We'll have to wait and see what transpired here tonight between the leader of the NWO,
00:01:52Hollywood Hogan, and the leader, many say, of WCW, Rowdy Roddy Piper.
00:01:59We began with the Nitro Girls, living legend.
00:02:02Well, let's just thank our lucky star.
00:02:05Why not?
00:02:05I mean, the Nitro Girls are live.
00:02:08We're having a great time at the Target Center, a sold out crowd.
00:02:12We have some great wrestling action here tonight, including Lex Luger and
00:02:16Buff Bagwell of the NWO, like we talked about Thursday on Thunder, Larry.
00:02:20I know I had a good day here in Minneapolis myself.
00:02:22You know, I would have shot a 69, but I birdied the last hole, I had a 68.
00:02:26Still got a pocket full of Olsenowski's money.
00:02:29Yeah, you're still a long way from Augusta in the green jacket.
00:02:31I don't care.
00:02:32And I tell you, we are not too far away from the greatest wrestling action in the world.
00:02:38You can hear the fans behind us.
00:02:40They are pumped, they are on fire.
00:02:42Ladies and gentlemen, we are rapidly approaching this weekend.
00:02:45It is Spring Stampede weekend, as Larry takes his kudos from the fans behind us.
00:02:52And Mike, it will be Sting and the Macho Man Randy Savage for the world title.
00:02:56It will be Roddy Piper and the Giant on opposite sides of a bat match with Hollywood Hogan and
00:03:01Kevin Nash.
00:03:02Kevin Nash has made it abundantly clear.
00:03:04If he gets the bat, he may whack not one, not two, but three men.
00:03:08Well, Tony, certainly this Sunday at Spring Stampede, history is going to be made.
00:03:13The first ever bat match.
00:03:15And who was the man behind the formation of that bat match?
00:03:18None other than Rowdy Roddy Piper.
00:03:20Yes, and no doubt, Tony, you can hear the people.
00:03:23This is a WCW town.
00:03:25No one likes the new world order here, and Piper, he's had months to conceive.
00:03:30A most diabolical match ever heard of, a bat match.
00:03:34And again, Kevin Nash may take out Hollywood Hogan himself.
00:03:38He certainly may, as the problems, the power struggle, the egos, and
00:03:43the paranoia within the NWO continue, but we've got a great three hours of action.
00:03:47The fans here are pumped, and so are we.
00:03:49Let's go to the ring for our opening bout.
00:03:52And what an opening bout it is going to be, ladies and gentlemen.
00:03:55We are going to see two power men, two men who are afraid of no one, two men who
00:04:00rightfully picked off this high intensity edition of Nitro with Fit Finley and
00:04:06Scott Steiner, and here comes Fit Finley.
00:04:08And have you noticed how Scott Steiner's confidence level has risen ever since he had
00:04:13the backing of the new world order?
00:04:16That strength in numbers thing, surely representative of this new confidence from Scott Steiner.
00:04:22I don't know today, I see a different Scott Steiner.
00:04:25I see a Scott Steiner that was a guy that didn't have to depend on anybody before.
00:04:30And now all of a sudden, he needs people behind him.
00:04:33He sold his soul, and that's gonna make his cast against Fit Finley a lot tougher.
00:04:38We have seen the problems within the NWO, and then let's not forget,
00:04:44Mike Tanae, you were there on hand Thursday on Thunder.
00:04:48And Scott Steiner makes his way in.
00:04:50Scott Steiner and Eric Bischoff came out together to confront, I guess,
00:04:54lack of a better person, confront me about Flair's absence.
00:04:59And it ended up with Eric Bischoff hitting the concrete floor very, very hard.
00:05:04What an incident that was this past Thursday on Thunder.
00:05:08Time for WCW fans to rejoice as Bischoff hit the concrete.

00:06:03Well, what a physical test this should be for Scott Steiner in Fit Finley,
00:06:07one of the toughest competitors currently active in World Championship Wrestling today.

00:06:19Well, obviously, Scott Steiner can't get in the ring and wrestle Fit Finley.

00:06:40He had to go outside and have to have Vincent tell him how great he looked,

00:06:45He had to lock up and fit Finley, and Scott Steiner finally hook it up.

00:06:52I mean, Steiner's a good wrestler.
00:06:54He knows what he's doing.
00:06:55Here's a man that can get in the ring one-on-one against anybody when he had his soul.

00:07:57That's Larry the Axe Hennig at ringside, and Scott Steiner got right in his face.
00:08:03I see Larry Hennig is a man of tradition.

00:08:10We're talking about Kurt Hennig of the NWA, obviously.
00:08:13Yeah, I won't say his name.
00:08:14And there is Fit Finley with a European uppercut, and that really put him to the man hard.
00:08:19The double stomp on the chest.
00:08:21But with a background like Larry the Axe Hennig is your father, we all thought that Kurt Hennig
00:08:27was gonna be part of the tradition of World Championship Wrestling.
00:08:30But the big money of the New World Order certainly turned him to the NWO.
00:08:34Well, it's the big money, Mike, but don't forget it's also a bunch of big lies, and Finley ran in two points.
00:08:40Scott Steiner takes advantage of that as the shoulder hit the middle turnbuckle, and Scott Steiner now tries to put Fit Finley up on the top here.
00:08:48Now, this being the target center, this being Minneapolis, Minnesota, the cradle of some of the great legends in our sport, many of who are here tonight.
00:09:00Including the living legend, Larry Zabisco.

00:09:11Finley hooking the legs, hooking the knees to try to take some pressure off, but he could not.

00:09:41Well, look, a picture-perfect suplex by Scottie Steiner, you can't deny it.
00:09:46I mean, the guy looks great, obviously lost some kind of self-confidence if he has to be reinforced psychologically
00:09:53by someone like Vincent.
00:09:56It's the very painful Hulk pulls the arms back, sits back on the Steiner recliner.

00:12:11I've seen Brad Brinkins here tonight.
00:12:13And really, if you go back in the formative years of the sport, some of the true greats really went right through here.
00:12:19And Larry, I know you're one of them, but you really have to admit to it.
00:12:22Some of the greats in our sport had their formative years in our sport.
00:12:26Not only greats from the past years, but currently as well.
00:12:29Well, you know, back in the days of the Territories, this was one of the premier spots to be in.
00:12:35Everybody from Hollywood Hogan to the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, Bob Quinkle, Mad Dog with Shawn.
00:12:41I could go on and on.
00:12:43This was one of the strongholds of professional wrestling since the early 1950s.
00:12:49Byrne, Ganyan, Lutez, and Crusher Lazowski.
00:12:54This can still go on.
00:12:55Larry, you look at so many of the stars today, and you check back and trace their roots.
00:12:58And so many attended the training camp, for example, of Vern Ganyan.
00:13:03Minnesota, you're right, a wrestling hotbed.
00:13:06Well, many attended, few graduated.
00:13:09Lenny Lane made his way to the ring, and his opponent here will be the Oklahoma Dragon.
00:13:14Interesting comments right before the break from Bret the Hidden Man Hart.
00:13:18We're gonna be hearing some more comments from Bret Hart.
00:13:21A little insight of why he is doing what he is doing.
00:13:24And it's really good news to see someone with the credentials.
00:13:29That is a true superstar in our sport, like Bret Hart, that is a part of WCW.
00:13:35Stand up, take a stand on his own, and say, I've had enough of it.
00:13:38I'm going to take matters into my own hands when things, be it NWO, things like this happen.
00:13:43Well, you know, when people watch, you know, the matches, they don't realize the politics involved.
00:13:48Bret Hart's felt the blunt of the dark side of the politics, and I don't blame him.
00:13:53I mean, I did my thing.
00:13:54I had a reputation years ago for being one of the most rebellious of all professional wrestlers,
00:14:00which was good in one way but got me in a lot of trouble in another way.
00:14:04But Bret Hart, I'm proud to see that he's not gonna stand back and take it.
00:14:07Believe me, there is a price tag for being a rebel in professional wrestling.
00:14:11Bret Hart asked me to mention that his Calgary Hitman hockey team, they came back to beat the Swift Current Broncos,
00:14:17but they're currently down 2-0 in the third round of the WHL playoffs against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
00:14:23He's very proud of the Calgary Hitman hockey team.
00:14:26The Ultimo Dragon sending Lenny Lane into the ropes.
00:14:28Lenny Lane using the mask.
00:14:30But he's not following up.
00:14:32I mean, he did a good move.
00:14:33You've got to stay on the Dragon.
00:14:35Lenny Lane has lost some respect to the fans for what he did,
00:14:40what role he played in that charade pulled on Dean Malenko on this program not too long ago.

00:14:52ramming him face-first into the turnbuckle
00:14:54and gonna lift him high into the air with a vertical suplex.

00:15:16Later on tonight, they're gonna see Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger,
00:15:18the total package go one-on-one.
00:15:21You heard what Piper said that he and Hogan tonight here in Minneapolis would go eye to eye.
00:15:27And I wonder what that means.
00:15:28Of course, you know, there have been certainly to say that there have been
00:15:31differences between the NWO and WCW would be a gross understatement.
00:15:36But the fact that these two men have so much political influence, as you talked about earlier, Larry,
00:15:41that could mean eye to eye, could mean literally anything.
00:15:43Yeah, you never know, especially when Piper's involved.
00:15:46And a showdown between Piper and Hogan this close to Spring Stampede with that historic Batmatch on the horizon.
00:15:53A two-count Liddy Lane gets lateral press and once again, wasting a lot of time.
00:15:57The Batmatch part of Spring Stampede, which will be this Sunday from Denver in the Coniseum.
00:16:02I look forward to going out to the Rockies, out to the Mile High City,
00:16:05home of the Super Bowl champion Broncos, to bring you Spring Stampede.

00:16:14And these fans are really on Liddy Lane here, and that has really dropped his focus away from the match.
00:16:19Well, this is a homecoming of sorts for Liddy Lane, who's been quite successful
00:16:23on the independent circuits in this area, now trying to step it up a notch
00:16:27where the big boys play in World Championship Wrestling.
00:16:30Oh, gets a kick in the back of the head for good measure by Ultimo Dragon.
00:16:36Playing around too long, and this is the wrong guy to do it with.
00:16:40Great series of kicks, lethal from the Dragon.
00:16:45The Dragon to the attack, once again, those lethal kicks.
00:16:48Back leg front kicks by Dragon, trying to spin wheel kick.
00:16:51But Liddy Lane showing his quickness, and he sends the Dragon on the outside with the back elbow here.
00:16:56Wow, forcibly nailed him with the elbow, caught him right in the sternum,
00:16:59and Dragon goes to the floor. Liddy Lane slingshot!
00:17:03Cross body block, I don't think he connected with Dragon.
00:17:07I think Dragon tried to counter with a move there.
00:17:09No, the cameraman ran away and I couldn't see.
00:17:11I think what happened to it... I guess that's what it was.
00:17:13The Dragon maybe caught Liddy Lane in the midsection with a kick as he was coming down out of the ring.
00:17:19And now the Dragon...
00:17:21Both feet sending Liddy Lane down, skinned the cap maneuver.
00:17:25Lane cannot combat except pull the feet.
00:17:27And they're down on the floor here.
00:17:29The Dragon trying to get a little too fancy that time, and Lane caught the ropes.

00:18:06So did Liddy Lane.
00:18:07And Liddy Lane now hooks the Dragon ahead of Steve Farside.

00:18:16Close, but not close enough.
00:18:19Would've been a breakthrough win in the young career of Liddy Lane.

00:18:24Liddy just clubs him in the back of the neck.
00:18:26And that sends a Dragon face first to the turnbuckle pad.
00:18:29Here comes Lane trying to bulldog him.
00:18:31Now he just sends him head first.
00:18:33Holding the head.
00:18:34Liddy Lane again to cover a one, two.
00:18:36And for the second straight time, Liddy Lane almost gets a big win.
00:18:40Didn't have his hands locked properly in that cradle.
00:18:43And Dragon exploded out of that just in the nick of time.
00:18:46Lane still trying to be aggressive, but...
00:18:49Trying to pick him up.
00:18:50Dragon sleeper is on!
00:18:53He kicked him in the back and then hooked it again.
00:18:56Don't think he had it properly applied the first time.
00:18:58He corrected it the second time.

00:19:01And while he corrected it, Mike, he kicked him right in the back.
00:19:04Right in the spine.
00:19:05And the Ultimo Dragon earned every bit of this.

00:19:09He made a few young man mistakes.

00:19:17He's talking about putting himself right back into the mix of the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship race.

00:19:36But right now, another special up close look at Bret the Hitman Hart.
00:19:41I said right from the very, very start that all I really care about is winning the World Championship belt.
00:19:47That's what, that's all that drives me.
00:19:49And you know, if I can get a shot, which is all I want.
00:19:52All I want is a fair shot.
00:19:53Whether I win or lose isn't important so much as just getting a fair shot.
00:19:57A lot of speculation, a lot of talked about, a lot of written about the bat match coming up this Sunday at Spring Stampede.
00:20:07When you look at the two teams, the WCW team and the team NWO, you see that Rowdy Piper and the Giant seem to be a cohesive unit.
00:20:17But not trying to stir any more problems than they have.
00:20:20Hollywood Hogan and Kevin Nash are having a lot of problems.
00:20:23Be that as it may, a lot can happen when the bat match takes place this coming Sunday.
00:20:28Well, will they be able to co-exist against a team like Rowdy Roddy Piper and the Giant?
00:20:33And Piper has talked about taking the Giant to a new level, especially in terms of meanness.
00:20:39You know, there's an old adage, when Rowdy Roddy Piper arrives on the scene at Monday Nitro, stuff happens.
00:20:46And we are promised that Piper and Hogan, well, they're going to have some kind of a confrontation here tonight prior to Spring Stampede.
00:20:52And Larry, look at it this way.
00:20:54Kevin Nash and Hollywood Hogan must co-exist.
00:20:57We've used that term many, many times.
00:20:59But as far as Piper's concerned, as many problems as Hogan can have, that's fine with him.
00:21:03Well, they may have to co-exist, but they may not be able to.
00:21:07You know, Piper is not a stupid man.
00:21:09He saw the clash of egos within the New World Order.
00:21:14I'm sure, there's no doubt in my mind, that Piper was inspired to think of this bat match with the Giant as his partner because he sees the breakdown.
00:21:25He sees the egos colliding, and Piper is taking advantage of an extremely fragile situation within the New World Order.
00:21:35There's another one as well.
00:21:37Let's think back to our last pay-per-view.
00:21:39And Kevin Nash was wielding the bat and broke it over the back of the Giant over the shoulder.
00:21:44Certainly, when you tell the Giant, hey, we want you to get in the ring, and he finds out it's Kevin Nash, the Giant's going to make it.
00:21:51There's an issue there as well.

00:22:36Then the next time they're signing prenuptial agreements.
00:22:39I'm going to have them wrestle each other one on one tonight in Minneapolis.
00:22:44Number two, after that's finished, I'm coming to Hogan myself and I'm going to stare him eye to eye and I am going to rid the wrestling world of Hulk Hogan.

00:41:31Well, I tell you, one of the few creatures that can survive the stupidly cold winters up here is called a wolverine.

00:41:50And Benoit has been so competitive, as you mentioned, Tony, against his opposition, regardless of size, power, height advantage, or in this case, the different style that Glacier brings to the ring.
00:42:02Well, I think it's the fact that he's fearless.
00:42:04His Benoit, scared of no man, just focuses on his own abilities and what he brings to the ring, and has no regard for his opponent.
00:42:12That does not mean he doesn't have respect, but he does not worry about what his opponent can do.
00:42:16He wrestles his match.
00:42:18And when it all comes down to it, Larry, to be successful, that's what you have to do.
00:42:21Drag and screw leg whip to take him down.
00:42:23You have to wrestle, or fight, if you will, your match.
00:42:26You're gonna wind up on the man.
00:42:28Glacier, all of his disciplines and martial arts, combining of styles and systems, isn't doing him much good right now against a Cripper who's just kicking him.

00:42:42Well, he announced this weekend that Benoit would get another world television title shot coming up at Spring Stampede.
00:42:48But the extra added stipulation is that there is gonna be no time limit.

00:44:15But Glacier, here's a man who had a big buildup coming into WCW, and I really think that he believed that buildup.
00:44:22That really went to his head, because this is not the same Glacier that first arrived and was very respectful of his elders,
00:44:29was respectful of the wrestlers, and where he was, he's really turned it completely around, Larry.
00:44:33All right, it kind of reminds me of one of these kids of this generation that grew up watching all these goofy karate movies
00:44:40where guys jump on trampolines and think that's the ultimate in fighting styles.
00:44:45I think Glacier spent a lot of time in the martial arts to find out it's not a complete...

00:44:50One, two, go ahead.
00:44:51Just to find out it's not a complete fighting system in wrestling, I think Glacier got very frustrated.
00:44:56Well, there's no key that he was swayed by that hype machine when he arrived in World Championship Wrestling,
00:45:01and now he knows that to be a great competitor here in WCW, he's going to have to integrate more wrestling moves into his offensive attack.

00:45:10Yeah, I mean, I don't care if you're five-foot, you know, tall Chuck Norris or the late Bruce Lee, a wrestler,
00:45:15we just break him in half.
00:45:17Benoit, German suplex, released it, dropped him on the back of his head,
00:45:22and Glacier hit very, very hard, but Benoit did as well.
00:45:25Well, you can believe you're pressed, you can let it all go to your head,
00:45:29but when the bell sounds, you gotta perform, and Glacier certainly has a much better win-loss record than most.
00:45:36Much like a Bill Goldberg, he was undefeated when he first came into the sport, and it lasted for a long, long time.
00:45:42Of course, Goldberg, who we're gonna see later on, still has an undefeated block.
00:45:46Here comes Benoit to a standing position, nice block by Glacier, full-on drag and twist,
00:45:51and a kick to the left section, a leg sleeve to take him down.
00:45:54Excellent showing in this matchup by Glacier, especially against a competition like Benoit.
00:45:59Yeah, well, nice moves, I mean, he's got some nice techniques, but he's not following him up right.
00:46:05And Benoit, Benoit's just a machine.

00:57:29Of course, since he's NWO, we usually don't concern ourselves with NWO injuries or how they're doing.

00:57:38And that may be a cause for concern within the NWO camp.
00:57:44As far as Hogan is concerned, probably not, though.

01:00:39And Living Legend, you talk about the conditioning of Luger, you can say the same thing for Bagwell.
01:00:44Bagwell in good condition as well, and thus he can take a lot of punishment also.
01:00:48Yeah, good condition, but still not as big as Luger.
01:00:51Luger's in the same condition, but he's a bigger man.
01:00:54A lot more endurance, less body fat.
01:00:56Problem is, though, he's gotta keep his eyes on that goof Bischoff.
01:01:00And focus on the opponent in the ring, rear chin lock sitting on the back of Luger.
01:01:07Luger, you can see eyes are open, so he's still in this one.
01:01:10And look at Bagwell, digging the fingers into the eyes, pulling back on the eyes,
