While meeting with EU President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, President Trump went on a rant against windmills.
Transcript
00:00They're going to end up in the same place. You might as well go there quicker.
00:04And the other thing I say to Europe, we've we will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States.
00:09They're killing us. They're killing the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains.
00:16And I'm not talking about airplanes. I'm talking about beautiful plains, beautiful areas in the United States.
00:22And you look up and you see windmills all over the place. It's a it's a horrible thing.
00:28It's the most expensive form of energy. It's no good. They're made in China.
00:32Almost all of them. When they start to rust and rot in eight years, you can't really turn them off.
00:39You can't burn. They won't let you bury the propellers, you know, the props, because there are certain type of fiber that doesn't go well with the land.
00:47That's what they say. The environmentalists say you can't bury them because the fiber doesn't go well with the land.
00:53In other words, if you bury it, it will harm our soil.
00:56The whole thing is a con job. It's very expensive.
01:01And in all fairness, Germany tried it and wind doesn't work.
01:05It's you need subsidy for wind and energy should not need subsidy.
01:08With energy, you make money. You don't lose money.
01:11But more important than that is it ruins the landscape.
01:14It kills the birds. They're noisy.
01:17You know, you have a certain place in the Massachusetts area that over the last 20 years had one or two whales wash ashore.
01:27And over the last short period of time, they had 18.
01:31OK, because it's driving them loco, it's driving them crazy.
01:36Now, windmills will not come. It's not going to happen in the United States.
01:40And it's a very expensive. And I would love to see. I mean, today I'm playing the best course, I think, in the world, Turnberry, even though I own it.
01:49It's probably the best course in the world. Right. And I look over the horizon and I see nine windmills.
01:55It's like great at the end of the 18th. I said, isn't that a shame? What a shame.
02:01You have the same thing all over, all over Europe in particular. You have windmills all over the place.
02:05Some of the countries prohibited. But people ought to know that these windmills are very destructive.
02:14They're environmentally unsound, just the exact opposite, because the environmentalists, they're not really environmentalists.
02:20They're political hacks. They're these are people that they almost want to harm the country.
02:28But you look at these beautiful landscapes all over all over the world.
02:32Many countries have gotten smart. They will not allow it. They will not.
02:36It's the worst form of energy, the most expensive form of energy. But windmill should not be allowed.
02:43OK. I did. I hope so. You're talking about Cambodia and Thailand.
02:55So I had an interesting time with dealing with Thailand and we do a lot of trade with Thailand and with Cambodia.
03:02And yet I'm reading that they're killing each other. You know, they're fighting. They're in a war.
03:06And I say this should be an easy one for me because I've settled with India and Pakistan and Serbia and Kosovo was going at it, you know, but they have for a long time, in all fairness.
03:17You know about that. And and others, the Congo.
03:23And, you know, what's what's gone. That's been a horrible thing with Rwanda.
03:29That's been a horrible thing. Thirty one years, seven million, eight million people killed machetes, machetes all over the place.
03:38It's a terrible thing. We we got that one. So we did five of them.
03:44And I was saying, you know, we have a trade deal. We were working on another.
03:48We finalized another trade deal yesterday. And I asked my people, I said, how are we doing with Cambodia and how are we doing with Thailand?
03:56And they say they're going to be coming in at some point to talk.
04:00I said, well, let's call them right now. So I called the prime ministers of each.
04:04And I said, we're not going to make a trade deal unless you settle the war.
04:08A lot of people are killed. You know that in a short period of time, the border, they're fighting pretty like wild.
04:15And I spoke to both of the prime ministers. And I think by the time I got it off, I think they want to settle now.
04:21I know they're meeting today or tomorrow and we're going to work with them.
04:26Marco Rubio is working with him also, his people and him.
04:30I think we're going to get that. That would be a great thing.
04:33But that's good. That would have turned out to be a bad one.
04:36And I will tell you, India and Pakistan, they were really getting ready to go at it.
04:42So getting those things settled, if I can do it, and if I can use trade to do that, it's, you know, it's my honor.
04:48But I had great talks with two very good people that they both really would like to make a deal.
04:55So we'll see what happens.
04:57Okay.
