U.S President Donald Trump publicly humiliated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a high-stakes trade announcement in Scotland. From mocking wind power — “Windmills are a scam!” — to refusing any EU tariff relief, Trump dominated the press conference, calling out Ursula for “not taking notes” and blasting the EU’s climate and immigration failures.

Despite the EU’s hopes for a softer deal, Trump slammed them with a 15% tariff, compared their policies to “a con job,” and left Ursula visibly stunned. With no concessions secured, the EU leader stood by awkwardly as Trump delivered blow after blow in front of a global audience.

00:00I think I could say we're essentially closed.
00:02I mean, you weren't exactly taking our autos.
00:05You weren't exactly taking our agriculture.
00:07And you see windmills all over the place.
00:09It's a horrible thing.
00:11It's the most expensive form of energy.
00:13It's no good.
00:14They're made in China.
00:15Everything else will be a straight-across tariff of 15%.
00:25Mr. Trump, can you do better than a 15% tariff rate for the EU?
00:30Better meaning lower?
00:32Yeah.
00:33Unfortunately, you see that often for all the wrong reasons, right?
00:38So those things are $750 billion, $600 billion opening up the country.
00:51Well, thank you very much.
00:53It's a beautiful Sunday in Scotland.
00:57And we thought we could cut things short by, and certainly travel distance.
01:03I will say this.
01:04You know, they did ask me when I got off the plane.
01:07Immigration Europe has a tremendous problem.
01:11And we do, too.
01:11But we've sealed our borders.
01:13We have nobody coming in.
01:14And we have hundreds of thousands of people being taken out.
01:19And the bad ones first.
01:20And I think we're doing a very good job of that.
01:22But we had, I mean, it literally registered zero people last month.
01:26You probably saw that.
01:27Nobody.
01:28And Europe has a very similar problem.
01:33I think they're going to end up in the same place.
01:35You might as well go there quicker.
01:36And the other thing I say to Europe, we will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States.
01:43They're killing us.
01:44They're killing the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains.
01:50And I'm not talking about airplanes.
01:52I'm talking about beautiful plains, beautiful areas in the United States.
01:56And you look up and you see windmills all over the place.
02:00It's a horrible thing.
02:02It's the most expensive form of energy.
02:04It's no good.
02:05They're made in China, almost all of them.
02:08When they start to rust and rot in eight years, you can't really turn them off.
02:12You can't bury them.
02:13They won't let you bury the propellers, you know, the props, because there's a certain type of fiber that doesn't go well with the land.
02:21That's what they say.
02:21The environmentalists say you can't bury them because the fiber doesn't go well with the land.
02:27In other words, if you bury it, it will harm our soil.
02:30The whole thing is a con job.
02:32It's very expensive.
02:35And in all fairness, Germany tried it and wind doesn't work.
02:39You need subsidy for wind and energy should not need subsidy.
02:42With energy, you make money.
02:44You don't lose money.
02:44I think I could say we're essentially closed.
02:46I mean, you weren't exactly taking our orders.
02:49You weren't exactly taking our agriculture.
02:52And then you would have smaller things.
02:54But for the most part, it was closed.
02:56And now it's open.
02:59It's open for our companies to go in and do a good job with it.
03:01I think you'll like them.
03:03I think you'll like it.
03:05And we will, very importantly, they'll be investing a lot of money.
03:09But the military is a big number.
03:11But that's one number we're not determining.
03:13It's going to be whatever it is.
03:14But they're going to be purchasing.
03:20I think it's great that we made a deal today instead of playing games and maybe not making a deal at all.
03:26I think it's, I'm going to let you say, but I think it's the biggest deal ever made.
03:31Thank you very much.
03:32Congratulations.
03:32I want to thank President Trump personally for his personal commitment and leadership to achieve this breakthrough.
03:56He's a tough negotiator, but he is also a deal maker.
