While meeting with EU President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, President Trump was asked about his comments on immigration to Europe.
Transcript
00:00Mr. President, you said that Europe is being crushed by mass migration, and I wonder whether your friends or yourself agree with you on that.
00:09Well, I'd let you respond to that if you'd like.
00:11So, we have been working intensively on the topic of regular migration, and we have from the very beginning said that migration is a European challenge that needs a European answer.
00:24As Europeans, we will fulfill our international obligations, as we've done in the past, also in the future.
00:32But we, as Europeans, are the ones who decide who comes to the European Union and under what circumstances, and not the smugglers and traffickers.
00:42That's the principle in which we are working.
00:44I will say this.
00:47You know, they did ask me when I got off the plane.
00:50Immigration Europe has a tremendous problem, and we do too.
00:54But we've sealed our borders.
00:56We have nobody coming in, and we have hundreds of thousands of people being taken out, and the bad ones first.
01:03And I think we're doing a very good job of that.
01:05But we had, I mean, it literally registered zero people last month.
01:09You probably saw that.
01:10Nobody.
01:11And Europe has a very similar problem.
01:16I think they're going to end up in the same place.
01:18You might as well.
