00:00The HMS Belfast is a town-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy launched on the 17th March
00:06in 1938 and commissioned just before WWII on the 5th August in 1939. During the war,
00:14she played vital roles in forcing the naval blockade of Germany, surviving a crippling
00:19mine strike in late 1939 and returning in 1942 after major repairs outfitted with advanced
00:28radar. After WWII, HMS Belfast served in the Korean War from 1950 until 1952, underwent modernisation
00:37in the late 1950s and was finally decommissioned in 1963.
00:43From freezing convoy duty to D-Day bombardments and Korean patrols, HMS Belfast stands as a
00:48floating symbol of the 20th century naval history.
