00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:04Nelson's Column stands proudly at the centre of Trafalgar Square, one of London's most
00:09iconic landmarks. Built between 1840 and 1843, it commemorates Admiral Horatio Nelson, who
00:16led the British Royal Navy to victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where he was
00:22fatally wounded. The monument rises over 50 metres high, with a Corinthian column made
00:28of granite and topped by a statue of Nelson facing south toward the Admiralty, a fitting
00:35tribute to his naval command. Around its base are four massive bronze lions, added later
00:42in 1867, symbolising strength and courage. The column is surrounded by relief panels cast
00:49from captured French cannons, each depicting one of Nelson's famous battles.
