The home of the Met Police.
Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:03Scotland Yard is the headquarters of the London's Metropolitan Police Service, one of the most
00:08famous policing institutions in the world. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with
00:14Scotland. The original building was located on Great Scotland Yard, a street near Whitehall,
00:19and the name stuck. The Met itself was founded in 1829 by the then Home Secretary Sir Robert
00:27Peel, whose Bobbies or Peelers became the first modern police force. Today, Scotland Yard
00:33is based on Victoria Embankment and is home to specialist units tackling organised crime,
00:39counter-terrorism and major investigations. It also houses the Met's iconic Black Museum
00:46of Crime Artifacts. The revolving sign outside has become an international symbol of British
00:52policing and law enforcement in London.
