00:00If this guy gets brainwashed, it's bad news for Ryu.
00:03Here's a look at the Jada Toys Street Fighter II The Final Challenger's Ken.
00:24Get ready for the ultimate showdown in a world where street fighting is the main event.
00:28Re-visit the world of your favorite characters from the Street Fighter II video game now as 1-12 scale action figures by Jada Toys.
00:35The honorable fighter Ken is known for testing his limits when it comes to fighting.
00:39Equipped with alternate heads, hands, and fireball accessory for Fists of Fury.
00:43This 6-inch figure comes with arcade-style packaging with features inspired by the game.
00:48Be careful not to get caught on the opposite side of Ken's right hook.
00:51We already know he's a master, but is he the master of this mold?
00:54Yes, Ken is, of course, using the exact same body as Ryu that we've looked at before.
00:59Ironically, though, when they first were creating the Street Fighter game due to budget problems,
01:03Ken only had to look like Ryu, but he also had a lot of Ryu's same moves.
01:07That would then get changed later on into the subsequent sequels,
01:10but we'll also be bringing in the Jada Toys Ryu that we've already had a look at.
01:14In the meantime, though, in the meantime, though, let's take the tape measure of mine
01:17and figure out just how tall Ken stands.
01:19If you're familiar with Ryu's height, then you'll be obviously familiar with Ken's.
01:22The figure's going to stand at 6 inches the same, or roughly about 15.5 centimeters tall.
01:28Yeah, about that Ryu, the exact same size figure.
01:31Same body, same legs, same gi.
01:34The only thing clearly that they've done differently when it comes to Ken
01:36is changing his gi to red instead of the white.
01:38It was always really one thing for me when I was playing Street Fighter
01:41that I was always relegated to playing Ken.
01:43Same way, though, that playing Super Mario Bros., I was always stuck with Luigi,
01:47because my friend would always pick Mario, and he would always pick Ryu.
01:50Here's also what Ken looks like also with Chung Lee.
01:54Chung Lee, of course, being smaller than Ryu.
01:56It doesn't change at all when you were bringing Ken.
01:58Boring bodies and movesets isn't the only thing that Ken seems to be boring.
02:02He seems to have a lot of similar accessories as well.
02:04First, he does have a display stand that has two pieces to it.
02:08You get yourself a circular base,
02:09then you get yourself an adjustable neck that adjusts into knuckle joints.
02:13You connect the two together.
02:14Hey, that does look familiar.
02:15It looks familiar because, of course, we did get one with Ryu.
02:18We did also get one from Chung Lee.
02:20I'm sure that trend will continue as we look at more.
02:23Going further down the rabbit hole, this guy's going to be doing,
02:25and we look at more Street Fighter figures.
02:27This serves, though, a purpose,
02:29because, of course, he does also come in clue with his fireball.
02:31This fireball, in fact, if you look at Ryu's, is exactly the same.
02:35I don't think at all they've changed anything differently from the mold standpoint,
02:38down to the fact that even they have the sculpted hands of Ryu's.
02:42Well, Ryu's was over here.
02:43Ken's was over here.
02:44They have the hands doing the same.
02:47Now, you just simply attach these to the display stand.
02:50If we find the hole first, there it is right there.
02:53It's really hard to find it.
02:54In fact, actually, if you just tilt it so that the light sort of hits it,
02:57you can find where that entry is.
02:59Just plugs that onto the display base, just like that.
03:02And there you go.
03:03You've got yourself a way to have this.
03:05Looking as if he's firing the fireball.
03:07Although, when we had done the review of Ryu, I did mention that review.
03:10With the elbow joint the way that they're designed,
03:12double hinges still, there's impossible means.
03:15There's no way you'd actually be able to get his hands together.
03:17I tried my best at the beginning of this review.
03:19I failed miserably.
03:22Miserably.
03:23The figure does have some swappable hands as well.
03:25Now, these are also the exact same hands that Ryu got.
03:28These flat hands, of course, you would normally want to have them if they're in the game.
03:32One above the other.
03:33But again, you just can't do that with these arms.
03:35If you did want to swap out, though, the hands,
03:37it's just a case of holding onto the forearm.
03:40You don't have to make the sound while you're doing this.
03:41Just pop off the closed fists,
03:43and then find your hand that has the thumb in the right way,
03:45and just plug it in place.
03:48I'm sure I've said this several times, and I'll mention this again.
03:50I think the plastic that Jada Toys is using for these Street Fighter figures is really good.
03:54Very user-friendly.
03:55It feels very comfortable in hand.
03:57Nothing feels brittle.
03:58Nothing feels gummy.
03:59It's just the right kind of plastic.
04:01I do kind of wish, though, this guy could have also come included with an extra hand
04:04where he gave the thumbs up.
04:06Still, though, I mean, when swapping out the hands,
04:08of course, if you want to have this guy pose,
04:10it's a very hard thing to pull off,
04:12just because, again, like,
04:13you kind of have to bend the hand like this.
04:15This hand has to go over here.
04:16You can already see the restrictions that I have.
04:19There's no way that you really can have the hands close enough together.
04:23Still, though, if we get a closer look at Ken.
04:25Now, Ken also does have a swappable head sculpt.
04:27Let's just move things out of the way so we don't get focused elsewhere.
04:31Let's focus instead looking at the head sculpts.
04:33Now, he gets a smiling face,
04:35and he also gets the more aggressive face.
04:39The hair seems somewhat similar,
04:42although apparently when he gets a little angrier,
04:44his hair gets angrier, too.
04:46The hair that they've used, actually, is a very soft plastic.
04:49Swapping out the heads, though,
04:50I will tell you right away,
04:52I actually so far have really only displayed my Street Fighter figures.
04:55I went back even with Ryu.
04:57Ryu had an angrier face.
04:58I chose more the neutral face.
05:00The same thing can also be said for Chung Lee.
05:02Where's Chung Lee?
05:03Chung Lee's right over here.
05:05Yeah, even though I do appreciate the fact that they give us alternate head portraits,
05:08I do really feel so far that all the heads that we get defaulted are the best of the two.
05:13Still, though, if you did want to change out the head,
05:15it's just a case of holding onto the torso,
05:18popping off the ball joint.
05:19Hey, that is easy.
05:20I'm telling you, man, it is.
05:21And then we're just going to pop, then, the new head on top of the ball joint.
05:24Make sure enough pressure is put,
05:26so at least the head stays in place.
05:28There we go.
05:29As for the rest of the figure's body,
05:31mentioned already, though, it seems to be...
05:34Now, I did want to make some course correction.
05:36I did say it's a similar body.
05:37If you really look at the lower legs,
05:39they did make one customized tweak.
05:42They retrofitted the body,
05:43so you can see that, like with Ryu's legs,
05:46he has more torn, tattered bottom legs to his gi,
05:49where Ken has it more smooth.
05:51Ryu, also in the game, was more focused on fighting.
05:53Ken was more focused on family.
05:55I don't know if that really does translate to a different gi,
05:58but yeah, you can see, though,
05:59that Ryu's does have a ripped, torn section for his shoulders,
06:03where Ken likes to keep his gi a little bit more clean.
06:05Not saying that, though, that Ryu has not a clean gi.
06:09Technically, too, if you want to really look at also the back,
06:12there is a little bit more texturing on the gi for Ken,
06:15so maybe I couldn't say that they're identical to one another,
06:18but they are certainly taking similar cues.
06:22For the figure's articulation for Ken,
06:24let's spin things around first.
06:26Do we have to spend some more time looking at the face?
06:29Okay, we'll spend a little more time looking at the face.
06:31I mean, again, I don't mind this head sculpt at all,
06:34but I think a smiling Ken works a little bit better for my collection space.
06:37The gi, though, is a softer bit of plastic
06:39that goes over top of his existing torso.
06:42I think it would be, though, safe to say
06:43that he is using at least the torso underneath the gi.
06:47Seems to be the exact same as Ryu,
06:49and also you can see that the arms are the same.
06:51He's just a little lighter skinned, that's about all.
06:54Feet also looks to be the same.
06:56They also have, by the way, pegels in the bottom of the feet.
06:59FYI, FYI, right there, right there.
07:01Okay, so for the figure's articulation,
07:03Ken's going to have the ball joint like Ryu had before.
07:07Because of that, the head's going to be able to rotate all the way around.
07:10Even though he has really longer hair,
07:11it doesn't really seem to get in the way of things at all.
07:14You can easily move the head up and down, back and forth.
07:16You're probably also noticing, too,
07:18not only is he doing all the work of just the ball joint
07:20that's attaching to the head,
07:22but further from that,
07:23actually, Ken has a secondary ball joint right there.
07:27Though, because the two of those are working hand-in-hand,
07:30you get a little bit more posability when it comes to Ken's head.
07:33Ryu also had that as well.
07:35The arms are going to rotate all the way around.
07:36No problems there at all, either.
07:38You can take the arms and hinge them out.
07:41I did notice this figure as tight on the arms,
07:43especially in the shoulder here.
07:45So I don't really want to fight it,
07:46but I do want to show you
07:47that at least the figure can pull off a 90-degree angle bend.
07:53In addition to that, of course,
07:55the figure does also have a bicep swivel.
07:57That's also here as well.
07:58The figure does also have a double hinge in the elbow.
08:01And the hands work the same way on both sides.
08:03No matter what side you're looking at,
08:04they rotate all the way around.
08:05There is technically also a hinge right here.
08:08So we want to make sure we cover off everything,
08:10checking off all the boxes.
08:11Ken does also have a hinge in his hands.
08:13That doesn't matter whether you want to use these hands,
08:15or it doesn't matter if you want to use these hands.
08:17You want to just, though, make sure the hands are all the way on there.
08:20There we go.
08:22Upper torso is going to be on a ball joint,
08:24even though he really is encased in plastic.
08:26It does not seem to impede much when it comes to rotating his torso.
08:30The legs easily split out.
08:31They're on ball joints, by the way.
08:34The figure does also have three quarters the way up the thigh,
08:37a swivel cut so you can rotate the leg all the way around.
08:39A double hinge on the knee.
08:42Articulation up and down for the ankle.
08:43You can also rock them back and forth.
08:45Did I already mention?
08:46I know I did.
08:47The figure does also have piggles on both of his heels.
08:50I love Ryu, and even though I like Ryu so much in the game,
08:54generally, though, I was always the guy that had to always play as Ken.
08:58That ended up really kind of working out better for me,
09:01because as a result, I grew up loving Ken more,
09:04even though I always really wanted to play as Ryu,
09:07but my friend, who always was stubborn and stuck in his ways,
09:10always felt the need to play as Ryu,
09:12so because of that, I always played as Player 2.
09:14Player 2, really the different deco,
09:16somewhat similar featured, somewhat similar moveset, clearly.
09:20He was basically the equivalent of Luigi's to Ryu's Mario.
09:25In the end, though, I'm really glad to finally have a Ken
09:27as part of my collection to go along with Ryu.
09:29This one was actually a little harder to find.
09:31I didn't find it on the Facebook selling group.
09:32In fact, actually, I went recently to Niagara Falls,
09:35going into a store and just not expecting to find anything
09:37that I would have been interested in,
09:39because my daughter would have been going in there,
09:40getting souvenirs, getting candy, getting hats, getting slime.
09:43Why are kids so fascinated with slime all of a sudden?
09:46But while I was there, I looked to the back section
09:49where they had kind of just a random selection of things,
09:51and sure enough, they had a Jada Toys Ken
09:53for a pretty reasonable price.
09:55I think it was around $35, so I scooped him up right away.
09:58And now to finally have a Ken along with Ryu,
10:01if I had really now the choice,
10:02well, if you had asked me back in high school,
10:04I would have tried to choose Ryu as my first and favorite.
10:07But since then, though, over the time and over the years,
10:10I have a love now for Ken in the same way I have a love for Luigi.
10:13Being now sort of forced to pick the second player, so to speak,
10:17resulted in me liking that character, I think,
10:19a little bit more than the main character,
10:21if you think of it that way.
10:22For some of you, that did start as a budget-cut clone of Ryu.
10:25Ken ended up standing as one of the popular favorites
10:27among Street Fighter fans.
10:29One thing you probably may notice also,
10:30if you played the classic Street Fighter 2 games,
10:32like Champion Edition,
10:34that Ken would also fire a blue Hadouken ball,
10:36not the orange that we get here from Jada's.
10:38Now, there are, of course,
10:39things that Ken does change over the years.
10:41He also even becomes violent in some of the subsequent sequels.
10:45Speaking of violent Ken,
10:47Jada, in fact, did release a violent Ken version.
10:50I think it does use the same body
10:51that we're getting here with the original.
10:53It does, though, include some swappable head sculpts.
10:56I think he actually gets three instead of just the two.
10:58And he gets a couple of fire effects
10:59that weren't included with this release.
11:01Now, Jada had that being advertised on their site
11:04and a few other sites that also had it listed.
11:06Wouldn't you know it?
11:07Rule of thumb.
11:08The moment I start trying to track down
11:09and add these things to my collection,
11:11Violent Ken has sold right out.
11:14And even I think now the prices online
11:15have started to skyrocket.
11:17One thing I do kind of wish that this Ken could have had,
11:20not a violent nature,
11:21but maybe the peace sign hands.
11:23So instead of thinking things,
11:25solving problems with violence,
11:26he could solve his problems with peace.
11:28One of the things,
11:29certainly when he was beating his opponents,
11:31his fallen foes would then look up
11:32and see that Ken was doing the peace sign.
11:34I did say in the review,
11:35a thumbs up sign.
11:35That would be certainly a fun additional accessory
11:38that they could have included with the figure.
11:40Now, I understand though,
11:41that from the budget standpoint,
11:42we're talking about budget cuts after all.
11:44Jada toys clearly has to look at this line
11:46and say, okay,
11:46what's the most important thing
11:47that these figures could have?
11:49The fact that we already have,
11:50for the price that these things are selling for,
11:52by the way,
11:52two swappable hands,
11:54two swappable head sculpts,
11:55a fire effect,
11:56and a display stand.
11:57For the price that they're asking for this line,
12:00certainly if you are a fan of Street Fighter,
12:02Jada toys,
12:02I still feel are knocking it out of the park.
12:05We did look at Ryu though first,
12:07but I'm glad that I finally had the chance
12:08to pick up my favorite player,
12:10Ken Masters.
12:11Let me know down below in the comments section
12:13when it came to picking
12:14your Street Fighter favorite character,
12:16who was it?
12:17And did a lot of that have to do
12:19with the fact that you had another person
12:20that you were playing with
12:21that maybe picked the character
12:22that you always wanted to play as?
12:24So because of that,
12:25you always picked the secondary character.
12:27And who was your favorite character to play as?
12:29Who was the character
12:29that you often found yourself playing as instead?
12:31For me,
12:32I always really wanted to play as Ryu.
12:34Whenever I played against John,
12:35the guy I knew in high school,
12:37he was dead set.
12:38He always had to play as Ryu.
12:39Because of that,
12:40I ended up finding a fond fairness for Ken.
12:43Ken and Guile were always my go-to guys.
12:46And had it been not for selfish John
12:48always choosing Ryu,
12:49I probably not would have ever played
12:51as Ken or Guile.
12:52So maybe it was a blessing after all.
12:54But what do you guys think of Ken?
12:55Let me know down below in the comments section.
12:57If you guys certainly did enjoy this video,
12:58you can do it certainly a solid
13:00by hitting it with a like.
13:01You guys want to stick around for more so?
13:03I hope so.
13:04This, by the way,
13:04isn't the end,
13:05my friends,
13:06colleagues,
13:06anybody that just happened to be
13:07stumbling onto this channel
13:08and just realized,
13:09hey,
13:09this guy's doing Street Fighter reviews.
13:11Just know,
13:11new person,
13:12there's going to be a bunch of other
13:13Street Fighter figures
13:14all coming your way
13:15for the rest of this week.
13:15So as always,
13:16thanks for watching.
13:17See you guys next time.
