00:00Welcome to the Debrief for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix here in Portsmouth.
00:10Now that racing was incredible, the crowds were absolutely insane and the party is continuing here.
00:16But I want to catch up with some of the athletes and find out how their weekend wins.
00:20Pete Burley shows the rest of the fleet who's in charge, the winners of the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth.
00:27It will be the Kiwis, the Black Boys.
00:32Well I'm back at the tech side, the boats are back, the pack up is in full swing.
00:37First and foremost, I want to catch up with the winners.
00:39Leo, congratulations, first place for you guys, it must feel pretty good right now.
00:43Yeah, it feels pretty surreal, like a lot of hard work in the background's paid off, so yeah, really happy and yeah, I think the team are happy as well.
00:50It was quite a tricky weekend, obviously yesterday was quite challenging and then today had its own challenges.
00:55I guess, what made the Portsmouth race course so unique?
00:59There's a lot of road furniture in the course, lots of obstruction.
01:02But yeah, no, I think just the team did a really good job of getting the geometry right and especially with that left shift in the last race,
01:08it was really important to get that top right and the tack bear away is pretty tricky, but no, we nailed it and after that bad start,
01:15it was really nice to actually come through and pass a few boats, so yeah, really happy overall.
01:20And everyone was making mistakes out there, falling off the foils, I mean, quite a lot of pressure on the flight controller.
01:25How did you find it?
01:26Yeah, it was, well, they're telling me now that it was a bit of carnage, but I think, yeah, just focusing on myself and just backing the work
01:33and yeah, I think we're pretty happy with how it all went.
01:36It was a pretty tough day as a flight controller, I guess, just a bit of chop out there and then just the changing breeze and the road furniture as well.
01:43So yeah, very exciting racing and yeah, really looking forward to just building on this momentum.
01:48Now, it was an epic grandstand in Auckland, another epic one here in Portsmouth.
01:52Do you think when you return to Auckland next year, you'll arrive at it?
01:55Yeah, it was epic to see so many fans out there and a lot of Kiwi fans, so just made it all better when we sang the national anthem in front of them.
02:03And I mean, looking ahead, you guys, obviously you won the event, you're now leading the championship.
02:08Must give you guys a lot of confidence considering the season you've had so far.
02:11Yeah, I mean, it's always tough with the long turnarounds and then it's just Friday training now.
02:17So you've just got to be on to it from day one and I think, you know, we're building a really good momentum now with being in the lead.
02:23So yeah, just got to keep it on now in the next few events in Europe, back-to-back events coming up.
02:27So just keep fresh and yeah, just keep building on it.
02:30Awesome. Well, well done, Leo, and enjoy the celebrations.
02:32Thank you.
02:33What was kind of like that sensation when you got told that you were in the top three?
02:37I was super stoked.
02:38Actually, I felt for a while I was the only one super happy.
02:40I was like screaming and everything and the others were just like, yeah, let's talking already about the final.
02:45So yeah, now we're super happy.
02:47Like, yeah, we, it was a hard day.
02:50Like the first race really wasn't going well for a while.
02:53And yeah, we're just so happy that we managed to like pull it back together for the second, like second and third.
02:59And yeah, to get into the final is just massive milestone for us.
03:03And we're just so stoked.
03:04Now it was a pretty eventful final.
03:07Obviously, you guys had an epic start and then came into a little bit of technical issues.
03:10So can you talk us through what actually happened on the boat?
03:13Yeah, so we actually had a hydraulic leak.
03:16So yeah, started having oil everywhere.
03:18And actually, just the functions on the boat started not working anymore.
03:21So it started with the jib.
03:23Couldn't really adjust the jib anymore.
03:25And then eventually the wing.
03:26So yeah, we just tried tacking at some point.
03:29And even the wing invert wasn't working anymore.
03:31So yeah, I just really couldn't sail anymore, which is a shame.
03:35But yeah, I mean, hopefully, hopefully we get into another final soon.
03:39And for sure, it won't happen again.
03:41Well, yeah, a bit of a roller coaster.
03:43As you said, it's awesome that it happened in the final rather than before and got you out of it.
03:47But not too many events away is your home event in Geneva.
03:52How much are you looking forward to doing that with the momentum that you have?
03:56Yeah, I think for us, we always said Geneva is really like our peak event of the year.
04:00Like that's where we want to show our best sailing.
04:03So yeah, two events away or like even one event with Sassnets only coming up.
04:08But I think you're just so happy to be on the right track.
04:11And we really want to win on home waters in two months.
04:15Well, enjoy the top three.
04:17And we'll see you next time.
04:18Thanks, Lisa.
04:19Bye.
04:20Kevin, obviously pretty eventful weekend for you guys.
04:23But awesome to see you out there win a few races today.
04:25Yeah, that's good.
04:26I mean, we are all happy to have a win today.
04:30A bullet, second place.
04:32And then another good one.
04:34But yeah, happy to fight again in the fleet.
04:38And yeah, get some good results.
04:41It must have been pretty scary what happened this weekend.
04:43But pretty amazing that you actually got to get back out there today.
04:47Yeah, yesterday was scary.
04:48And I mean, we have to know, Jonas and why, what did it happen?
04:55And I wasn't so confident today, this morning, to be honest.
05:02With this win, the forecast was pretty high.
05:04And but we managed.
05:07And I mean, the big reaching to get on the racing area was enough to confirm that the wing was good.
05:18Yeah, you saw you guys had this big downwind, sending it out to the racetrack with the new wing.
05:23Awesome job.
05:24I'm going to leave you to it because we might get run over.
05:26Well done.
05:26I've just spotted the Emirates Great Britain driver, Dylan Fletcher, wrapping up his media commitments.
05:33Let's get his thoughts on the day.
05:35Dylan, I know you were gunning for the win this weekend.
05:38How are you feeling?
05:39Yeah, really actually quite happy to put on such a great show this weekend.
05:43The SLGP was fantastic.
05:44Disappointed not to come away with a win.
05:46But yeah, proud of the team's performance.
05:48Now, that crowd was absolutely insane.
05:50Did you ever imagine that you would be sailing in front of so many fans for a British team?
05:54No, it's incredible to be here with 20,000 plus everyone else on the water and behind the scenes watching.
06:01It's unbelievable.
06:02So a real privilege to bring this to the UK.
06:05Sun's out.
06:06The wind was pretty tricky out there though, but it did deliver.
06:08Yeah, cracking racing all weekend.
06:10Probably the best event of the year, eh?
06:12We'll leave it at that.
06:13Thank you so much, Dylan.
06:14And we'll see you next time.
06:15Thanks.
06:16Well, that wraps up the Debrief.
06:17Thank you so much for following along all weekend.
06:20Make sure you subscribe for more content.
06:22and we will see you soon in Germany.
06:25Until then, stay on the foils.
