00:29Et, you know, yesterday morning,
00:31your leg was injured.
00:34You didn't know if you were going to go on the water with your boat.
00:37Sort of, how did you go from that to just going out there
00:40and taking it on and winning the event ?
00:42Yeah, I mean, we've spoken a lot about my leg,
00:47but I mean, it's okay, it's just a bit sore.
00:50And, yeah, I've been super focused with all the guys and Mano on board
00:56to make sure we deliver our basic performance
00:59and we can be focused on tactics and strategy.
01:03And, yeah, with a bit of luck this weekend,
01:05we're fortunate to win it.
01:07And you have your home event next in Saint-Tropez.
01:10Does it feel nice to have the momentum as you lead into that ?
01:14Yeah, honestly, it's a dream to come in Saint-Tropez
01:18with a win on the back.
01:20And hopefully we will have kind of the same performance
01:24in front of our own fans.
01:27Yeah, we're really happy how we sailed.
01:29Yeah, we won the fleet racing by a long way,
01:31which is a nice feeling.
01:33It meant we were sailing as well as we could have
01:36and we put ourselves in the best position possible.
01:38And then in that final, in conditions like that,
01:41you need a bit of luck.
01:42You need things to go your way.
01:44You need to execute.
01:45And, yeah, we didn't have a great start.
01:47We got back in the race.
01:49It was really tight at the top mark the last time.
01:51And I thought we, in hindsight,
01:54I think we should have probably tacked and split from the French,
01:57but I thought we're right on them here.
01:59And with a lap to go,
02:00I want to just stay close and we'll pass them eventually.
02:04And unfortunately, they just got a gust of wind
02:06and sailed off down the course
02:08and we were sort of sitting at the top mark,
02:10a bit upset, but that's all right.
02:12We had a great time here.
02:14Loved it.
02:15And looking forward to the event here next year.
02:17Yeah, I guess Sassnitz,
02:18obviously not many people with sales here,
02:20but the crowd showed up, the wind showed up.
02:22How epic was the racing this weekend?
02:24Oh, we loved it.
02:25That was great conditions.
02:27Nice breeze, offshore winds, flat water, huge crowd.
02:31Honestly, there's no complaints.
02:34And I usually complain a lot, as everyone knows,
02:36and to walk away from a weekend like that,
02:39really happy with how the event went
02:42and we're happy with our result.
02:44We're looking forward to next year coming back.
02:48You're now leading overall.
02:50The points are pretty much tied, I think.
02:52But it still must feel good to be back at the top.
02:56Yeah, it's great to be back on top.
02:57I think this is like the third or the fourth time
02:59we've taken the lead and then we've lost it.
03:02So hopefully we can build on this
03:04and try to build up a points gap,
03:06but it's still so tight.
03:08I mean, we have a good event, a second,
03:10and then you look back and you think
03:12the Spanish are having a really bad one.
03:14Maybe we'll get a lot of points here,
03:16but you only get sort of three points on them
03:18or four points.
03:19And so it's remaining tight
03:21and still we all know those damage points.
03:25If one of our top four teams
03:28has a collision with someone
03:29and gets damage points,
03:31that's going to rule them out of the final.
03:33So I'd love to say we're not going to hit anyone,
03:35but it's just so hard on tight racetracks
03:37and to keep your nose clean.
03:39And I think all us four
03:40are going to be really careful
03:41these next few events.
03:43Great. Thanks so much, Tom.
03:44Awesome. Thank you.
03:45Well, Dylan, you started the day
03:46not knowing if you're going to make it out there
03:47and then just went out there firing.
03:49How did you turn it around?
03:51Yeah, I think first thing is massive appreciation
03:53to the tech team at SailGP
03:55and our own shore team
03:56for getting our yacht back on the water.
03:58It was unbelievable effort there.
04:00And we just felt like we had a free day.
04:02We knew we had to grab the ball by the horns
04:04to get to the final
04:05and we just gave it everything.
04:07You guys sailed so well out there.
04:09Obviously, it was so gussy, so shifty,
04:11but it looked like you just sort of figured
04:12that racetrack out,
04:13especially that fleet racing.
04:15Yeah, we had really good fleet racing.
04:17Obviously, you know,
04:18it had a great start in the final
04:19and felt like we had it under control.
04:21But, you know, out there,
04:22it wasn't always going to go your way.
04:24And unfortunately,
04:25it didn't quite go away in that final.
04:27We fought back well
04:29and maybe pushed a little bit too hard
04:31to just gave everything for the win
04:32and let the Aussies pass.
04:33But we're still happy of the weekend
04:35and just stoked that we were out there racing
04:37and making it into that final
04:38and into the top three overall.
04:40Yeah, I guess.
04:41How does it feel to be, you know,
04:42back in that top three?
04:43The points are so close,
04:44but it's just every point is going to count
04:46all the way to the end now.
04:47I think we're just happy that we're sailing well
04:49and of course it was a good event for us.
04:52We were confident we're sailing well here.
04:54It didn't quite go away in the final,
04:56but that's the jeopardy of SailGP.
04:58So we've got to keep chipping away now.
05:00Three events left
05:01and just keep staying in that final
05:02and we'd be where we need to be
05:04going into the final race.
05:05Awesome. Thank you.
05:06Well done.
05:07Definitely not happy with the weekend.
05:08Felt like we were just really hot and cold all weekend.
05:12You know, we do some things really well
05:13and then just some big mistakes.
05:15Definitely felt like we're super unlucky today at times as well.
05:18You know, every time you kind of got out to a side towards the top,
05:21you just breeze went about 40 degrees the other way.
05:24So that was one of those days of, you know,
05:26had so many opportunities that didn't quite manage to execute,
05:29but, you know, all in all,
05:31coming over the fourth for a bit of damage limitation,
05:34I don't think it's a terrible thing.
05:35And yeah, it gives us some motivation to keep kind of pushing into,
05:38into central back.
05:39How hard was it to actually read the wind out there?
05:41It looked like, you know,
05:42not everyone got it right every time.
05:44It was pretty easy to see where the pressure was.
05:47Well, around the racetrack, obviously,
05:49the pre-start was another minefield of itself.
05:52But just hard to say, well,
05:54the last phase was going to be coming into the top mark.
05:56And I feel like that was the one we were just not really getting on top of all day.
06:00We would end up on the left and we'd go massively right,
06:02or we'd end up on the right and go massively left.
06:04But yeah, all in all, I think we, we sailed the boat reasonably well.
06:09We definitely improved throughout the days and put together some good performances in the last race
06:14to kind of really salvage them.
06:16So really pleased with that part of it.
06:18But yeah, we just have to go back and make some plans into the next event.
06:22The fleet is super condensed out on the racetrack,
06:25but also with the points.
06:26I guess, is there any difference to last season?
06:29Does it feel more intense out there?
06:31No, it feels pretty similar to last season, to be honest.
06:34Yeah, I mean, it's incredible how that top four, I think it is,
06:38or that top group, maybe five in there,
06:42really just kind of stepping out a little bit on the leaderboard.
06:44But yeah, all in all, it kind of feels like anyone could win.
06:49You know, the Germans incredibly close to making their first final.
06:52Yeah, great to see the French win an event after a tough build up to the weekend.
06:59But I think the Aussies were kind of a standout team for the weekend.
07:02So yeah, definitely going back and having a little look through what they were doing.
07:06But yeah, really happy with the progress we're making.
07:09Some things we were working on went really well,
07:11but they need to keep working on.
07:14Eric, congratulations, almost made that final,
07:16but you must be proud with just how you sailed today.
07:19Yeah, I think it was probably one of the most challenging days I've had in my career.
07:27At least the last 15 years, I didn't see these conditions.
07:3090 degree shifts, you know, from 3 to 15 knots, everything there was very challenging.
07:37I think most of the fleet would probably say the same.
07:40Yeah, we had a good race, we had good starts.
07:43But yeah, the last bit was missing.
07:46I guess, how hard was it?
07:47Obviously, you know, your boat handling was pretty solid.
07:49Most of the time you pick the shifts, but how hard was it to sort of get it right?
07:53Oh, you had only control about the next 20 seconds, felt like.
07:58And then at times you were just gambling a bit because you saw the first part of the gust.
08:03And then you were just, you know, kind of gambling.
08:06Is that a gust which stays long or is the gust which is disappearing in a second?
08:11So yeah, we got a couple of times right, but in the last race, not finally right.
08:17So yeah, all good. We are happy with the weekend and happy to come back to Sassnes next year.
08:22Yeah, so we're coming back to Sassnes, the crowd's been incredible.
08:25I'm sure you had family and friends here across the team.
08:28I mean, how sort of special was it to kind of reward them with a good result?
08:33Yeah, for sure. It was very special for us.
08:35It was a great chance to show for Sailing Germany and also Racing Germany that this is a really nice,
08:44it's a really nice, not a product even, it's a really nice show we can deliver.
08:49And sailing is not boring. Sailing is something very special and also nice to watch.
08:55And we felt like, you know, the atmosphere was great. The grandstands were full.
09:00Just in total, great deal. But event for us, a really good advertisement for sailing in Germany.
09:08Diego, it looked like you guys didn't quite get in the flow today. I guess, where do you feel like you struggled?
09:12Yeah, well, it feels like we did some good stuff, but today we struggled quite a lot with the starts.
09:18It wasn't easy. The box was super shifty. There was a big wind shadow in the starting box and hard to predict.
09:25And we didn't get the best approach, I guess, and we have to look into it, obviously.
09:29But yeah, tough day for us.
09:31It was so shifty and gusty out there. How did you sort of navigate just the, I guess, the chaos?
09:36I think you have to see what you have. Obviously, you need to look ahead a bit.
09:40But yeah, the wind is changing all the time. And yeah, you have to get your boat in places to get the best chances.
09:47I think we went, got through the fleet from the spot we started. And yeah, but it wasn't enough.
09:54Points are just so close in the overalls at the top. Do you look at that at all? Or is it just sort of every race right now, you're just fighting for every point?
10:02Yeah. When you're racing, you just focus on racing. But yeah, obviously, we are getting to the end of the season. And yeah, we look a bit on points.
10:11We are in a position now where we have to push to keep our chances open. So yeah, we'll work hard to be in plain form in the next event.
10:21For you, what was the biggest challenge for your team?
10:24Oh, I think it was the same challenge as everyone else today. It was just getting the shifts right. And yeah, it was close for us.
10:30I mean, we were in the final in the last race. And then we went from fighting GBR for first and finishing, I think, ninth in that race.
10:36And that was painful, but we just got it wrong. We went to the left side and everyone else overtook us on the right side. And that's racing sometimes.
10:42And how do you feel like you guys are sailing together as a team across what was a really difficult weekend?
10:47I think we're definitely improving. So if we've got to take some positives away is that we're getting faster and improving the sailing ramp.
10:53I mean, I think today we could easily have been in the final, which would have been a good milestone for us in the T-foils.
10:57It hasn't been our favorite for us, for sure, compared to last season. But it wasn't meant to be today.
11:03And I think it comes down to a little bit of luck as well today. And it just didn't go our way.
11:07I think we sailed better than what we actually got today. But we also made a lot of mistakes yesterday.
11:11And we didn't quite have the speed yesterday to match some of the other teams. So that was fair enough.
11:15But I think we improved and had more speed by the end of yesterday than the beginning.
11:18And the next event is the Rockwell France Sale Grand Prix. So you're going to have lots of sponsors down there cheering you on.
11:23Yeah, I think Saint-Tropez is a good event, I think, and we enjoy it. And it's our own home Grand Prix.
11:27And I think with the learning curve that we have at the moment, we're definitely more comfortable going into Saint-Tropez
11:32than we have been for a while. It's no secret that our confidence hasn't been high for a few events now.
11:37And I think after yesterday and today with improvements, we definitely have more confidence to take some in-fights.
11:42Up until now, we sort of stayed away from the in-fights with other boats.
11:45And yesterday we took on the Australia and they smoked us, but at least we took it on.
11:49And that showed we had confidence back. So let's keep building on that.
11:52And hopefully we take some more in-fights in Saint-Tropez and get on that podium.
11:55Giles, it was so tough out there. How did you guys navigate such a tricky racetrack?
12:00Pretty well for two races. We had a mixed bag of a day.
12:07I mean, it ultimately ended up being a frustrating day for us.
12:11We didn't have the best of days yesterday, but we were in contention.
12:15And that was certainly the case going into that final race today.
12:18You know, making the final was all on for us.
12:22But yeah, it kind of felt pretty similar to Portsmouth actually.
12:26We just didn't quite get the right swing of it in that final race.
12:29And we ended up at the back end of that middle pack, which is...
12:34Yeah, it's a bitter pill to swallow.
12:37I think it was seventh to second could have made the final.
12:40Just goes to show how close the points are and how much, I guess, in the fleet race,
12:44you've got to fight for every point.
12:46Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, no, we were aware of that going into that last race that,
12:51you know, we had a fifth and a fourth and we gave away some places in those races.
12:57But still, we were racing well and felt like all we needed was another good one to,
13:02you know, to really slingshot the leaderboard.
13:04But yeah, it wasn't to be.
13:07I guess as a as a sailor, we go to all these different racetracks.
13:10They all have their different sort of nuances.
13:12How hard is it to sort of adapt and learn on the fly?
13:15I guess with a sport that's and a course that's ever changing.
13:19Yeah, I think it is difficult. And here in Sassnitz, particularly so, given how up and down, left and right the breeze was.
13:30It's pretty rare in SailGP that we race in that sort of condition where we're so close to a lee shore.
13:38So yeah, it certainly led to a lot of place changes.
13:41I'm sure it made some good viewing and difficult for all of our sails to navigate.
13:46And yeah, it was didn't quite go right for us.
13:51So a bit of a tough weekend, but nice to finish it with a race win.
13:54Yeah, really tough weekend for us.
13:56Things didn't really go our way, but last race was a great way to finish the weekend on a race win
14:01and plenty to learn over the last two days.
14:04But yeah, for sure, it's good to finish on a high.
14:07It was so shifty and gusty out there for you.
14:09I guess what was the hardest part about today?
14:12Well, I think nothing, you know, nothing was settled.
14:15So even though, you know, a couple of times we were in great position,
14:18everything was still possible until the last gate.
14:21And yeah, we lost a few places.
14:23So it was good to have the opposite in the last race and be able to come back.
14:26But it was quite fun racing.
14:28I mean, very dynamic, lots of overtakes and good action.
14:31I think all weekend we had great conditions here in Sassnitz.
14:34How hard was it when you, you know, did a move and you fell off the foils
14:37and then you saw other people going like 30 kilometers faster?
14:40Yeah, it was pretty nerve-wracking.
14:41I mean, yeah, you just had to stay calm and try to read the wind as well.
14:45as best as possible and pick your shifts.
14:47But obviously it was hard to get them all right.
14:49I think no one did that today, but for sure some boats were more consistent than others.
14:53And we were not super consistent over the whole weekend.
14:56But it's good to see we can still win races and fight in the front.
14:59We just need to work on that consistency and put the days together.
15:03Awesome. Thank you.
15:04Ruji, it was a tough day out there, but it looked like you started with some problems with your wing.
15:08What happened?
15:09Yeah, sure.
15:10We had a big issue.
15:11We lost connection with the wing.
15:13There was an hydraulic failure.
15:15But then we were able to get back on track and we raced.
15:22For sure, not our weekend.
15:24We missed most of the shift and the change of modes are still something that we suffer a bit.
15:32But yeah, in the end it was a good practice and we're going to come out with some good stuff for the next one.
15:38It was so hard for everyone.
15:40I guess you have to have so much confidence in being able to maneuver the boat and as well as pick all the shifts, I guess.
15:45Yeah, exactly.
15:46I mean the changing of modes from displacement to H1 to the falling one and then tucking back.
15:55Of course it was a big, big challenge and we are probably still not ready for all these gear changes.
16:03But of course it's part of the learning process and time by time we are getting better.
16:11How much do you learn in an event?
16:12Are you finished the end of the weekend and your brain is like just trying to process everything?
16:16Yeah, to be honest after this one I feel like to be hammered.
16:20But yeah, for sure we're going to sit down next week and try to look through the data, through the videos
16:27and understand what went good and what went wrong.
16:42it's like this so many people have changed the way that we could not task that.
16:46Then this is just the next tuition.
16:47I hear five things back with 11.
16:48I just thought you were going to go for it for different transitions and think,
16:49I read that kind of a lot.
16:51I think you have 你 men try first.
16:54And if you're thinking as a lot of different people have changed the way to deliver the mind.
16:58So for that question, you have everything you need to share with you,
17:00The leaves should have changed the way that matters into Mix confronted with you and that.
17:02As I've as seen as someone who votes for each other people have changed the way that you can have changed.
