Before July comes to an end, there's still a chance for a tropical system affecting the Southeast or the Gulf Coast. AccuWeather's Damien Lodes has the details.
Transcript
00:00Looking forward, we are tracking our possible next potential development of a tropical system.
00:04It's a very similar setup to what we had last week. Right now we have an area of low pressure
00:09storm system just off the southeast coast and that coastal area trajectory is going to go right
00:15across the peninsula of Florida and impact once again the Gulf Coast region. Now the overall setup
00:20last week had that pretty much bullseye towards New Orleans and the Louisiana Gulf Coast. This
00:26current track has it a little bit farther to the south which means two things. More intensification
00:30with it being over the Gulf Coast or the Gulf longer and also has a bullseye now on Houston it
00:37looks like. Here's the overall tropical development potential we are tracking not just across the
00:41southeast and the Gulf but we also have this area here just off the coast of South America. Now the
00:46good news is to that southern area that we are watching is that it's about to move its way into
00:51a less favorable environment with drier air and more elevated wind shear. But overall here on
00:57infrared satellite you can see we're tracking that area to the southeast and that area there
01:01just to the north of South America. But as we head into this weekend Friday, Saturday, Sunday
01:06once again it looks like the latest projections for this storm path will have it just to the south
01:12of Louisiana and New Orleans. New Orleans will still get impacted but it looks like as far as any direct
01:17impacts as far as the overall path looks like right now it's taking more of a direct path towards the
01:22Texas Gulf Coast and especially Houston, Galveston, that region right there. So this is what we're
01:27going to be watching out for here as we go forward. So as far as the overall impacts a low impact there
01:32for tropical rain and for winds there across the southeast Florida and the Gulf Coast. We'll keep you updated on
01:38that.
