Plans for 350 new homes at Red Hall set for approval

Plans to build more than 350 homes at a former garden nursery in Leeds are set to be approved by the council.

00:11Redhall Nursery first opened more than 60 years ago and provided flowers for public

00:15sites around the city.

00:17In 2017 it was replaced by the Arium in Wynmore, after Redhall reached its growing capacity.

00:23Now plans to build more than 350 homes here are set to be approved by Leeds City Council.

00:29Redrow Homes is expected to redevelop the vacant site in Shadwell after they sought planning

00:34permission to build on land at Redhall Lane, near the Ring Road in East Leeds.

00:39The scheme is part of the wider East Leeds extension which is expected to bring thousands more

00:43homes to the surrounding area.

00:46Part of the site includes the Grade 2 listed Redhall House, formerly occupied by the Rugby

00:51Football League and now a private hospital.

00:54An old farmhouse at the site could be converted into two apartments.

00:59Planning permission for Redhall would be subject to financial contributions from the developer,

01:04including £7.2m towards the East Leeds orbital route, with £350,000 going towards bus service

01:11improvements if the scheme is allowed to go ahead.

01:15The sale of the site to Redrow was approved by the Council in 2021 and is expected to go

01:20ahead after a reduced price was negotiated due to a change in economic conditions since the

01:25planning application was lodged.

01:28Objection letters to the plans have been received over a possible increase in traffic congestion

01:33and the impact on historic buildings at Redhall.

01:36The planning application will be considered by the Council's North and East Plans Panel on

01:40Thursday the 24th of July.
