00:11but it will be converted by care provider Embracing Independent Lifestyles.

00:16The redevelopment of the Burley Road property will see it turned into a round-the-clock

00:19care facility for up to 11 residents aged 18 to 65.

00:25Leeds City Council approved a planning application for the scheme, and a planning report said

00:29the project would not harm the character of Burley Village Conservation Area.

00:34The applicant said restoring the dilapidated building previously used as a nursing home

00:38would help reduce crime and vandalism.

00:41A heritage report said the mansion was the 19th century home of John Smith, a city banker

00:45and philanthropist who carried out alterations to the building.

00:50It's thought to have been built by the Goodman family, who would have occupied ornate and

00:54spacious rooms in the mansion, while servants lived upstairs.
