Plans for 230 homes in an empty Leeds city centre building have been given approval by the council.

00:07Permission was sought to convert the upper floors of 42 The Head Row into studio flats with shared kitchens and workspaces.

00:14The 10-storey building on the corner of Albion Street has been vacant since Direct Line left the premises in 2021.

00:22The Council's City Plans Panel was told the co-living spaces were designed for recent graduates and workers who need short-term rentals.

00:29The development could include a gym, lounge areas, a library and laundry facilities,

00:35and roof garden spaces are planned for the 4th and 10th floors of the red brick building.

00:40The existing retail and commercial units are set to be retained at the ground floor level,

00:44and a legal agreement with the developer includes a £2.4 million contribution to affordable housing in the city,

00:51along with payments towards traffic measures.

00:54The application has been delegated to the Council's Chief Planning Officer for approval, subject to conditions.
