Transcript
00:00All this is sewage water here, smelling very, very, very, very upsetting.
00:07A lot of land belonging to the neighbor of Joanne McLean transformed into a swamp-like putrid environment.
00:13The waste water is spilling over into the roadway along the freighter street in St. James.
00:18According to McLean, it stems from a clogged sewer line.
00:22Which is the exhaust line taking all the filth and the sewage to the infirmary, and it's blocked.
00:29And it's reversing back into the people's compounds and people's premises in the yard.
00:34But inside McLean's home, the water containing fecal matter is in his bathroom and even toilet space.
00:41In some instances, it results in an overflow of the bowl.
00:44He tells us that he isn't the only resident in that messy predicament.
00:49Other yards down the street, it's backfilling too.
00:53Wasps have been coming, and days they've been coming, they've been siphoning some of the filth.
01:00But they don't have the truck, they say the truck has broken down,
01:03which is to do the fishing into the docking and clearing the line.
01:08The freighter street is in close proximity to the HTC Viewfort development.
01:13These buildings on top, all of them tap into the same sewer since they build the buildings.
01:19So it comes like a gain overload.
01:21McLean says it has occurred on more than one occasion, but he isn't laying all the blame on WASSA.
01:27Last time they come, they pull out a towel out of the line.
01:31And all kinds of other things were supposed to go in the garbage, they throw it in the sewer.
01:36So which is a part of the problem too.
01:39TV6 News contacted the Water and Sewerage Authority concerning the situation.
01:43WASSA says it will take the necessary steps to address the issue.
