Severe storms erupt in the Northeast

As what's left of Tropical Storm Chantal heads out to sea, thunderstorms in the Northeast are leading to tornado and flash flood risks.

00:00We have greater concern about an ongoing risk for a tornado possibly into areas around Monmouth County and parts of Ocean County of New Jersey.

00:07So here we have Ocean County. I'm going to switch over to the high-res radar data out of Fort Dix, New Jersey.

00:13And this is going to give us a close view from south to north from the radar source to the storm itself about eight or nine miles.

00:19And as I switch over to the velocity scan, there is still some rotation.

00:24You can see this is not the picture-perfect, obvious tornado threat that we often see in the plains.

00:30And there's nothing perfect about a tornado. We don't want to celebrate any of this.

00:33But sometimes it's easier to track these when we have certain indicators.

00:37And you can see the red against the green over Jackson there in the northern part of Ocean County.

00:42This also includes a little bit of southern Monmouth County near and south of Freehold Township tornado warning in these areas.

00:48So that's the greatest risk for a possible tornado here into the area very close to Jackson, New Jersey.

00:53Just a hint of outbound wind, strong inbound.

00:56We have a lot of reports of trees, wires down, road closures.

00:59I'm going to turn the reports on here.

01:01You have tens of thousands without power now into parts of the northeast, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

01:06Roxborough there with flooding on the Schuylkill Expressway, I-76 westbound.

01:11That's a bad spot for traffic issues this time of the day.

01:15So, again, this is on the Schuylkill Expressway near City Line Avenue there with lane restriction

01:22because of high water on the road also flash flooding in other areas near Middletown Township in Delaware County.
